J'ai complètement négligé ces histoires quand j'ai commencé à étudier, mais je continue à traduire petit bout par petit bout. x I mostly read fanfiction in English, because the section in this language is - by far - the best-stocked in stories. As a native French speaker, I do however notice a certain amount of common mistakes concerning french words which were adapted to the english language, and the main problem is the distinction between feminine and masculine nouns. The most common mistake I've encountered is the distinction between "fiancé" and "fiancée". As the additional "e" indicates a feminine in most cases, a fiancé is a man and a fiancée is a woman. But what prompted me to write this was another mistake, one I have found in smut: people who don't want to write "orgasm" - or can't because they've already employed the word in the same sentence - sometimes default to "the little death". Which is completely correct, unless they want to write it in French and end up forgetting their "e"s. "Le petit mort" means "the small dead male" "La petite morte" means "the small dead female" "La petite mort" means "the little death" Now I really hesitated posting this, but this particular mistake adds a slight flavour of necrophilia to porn, which can be quite disturbing (or hilarious depending on story and writing style).
