Anomura the Padawan, also known as ThePrimeSuspects, is an author of Yu Yu Hakusho and Deathnote fanfiction. She began writing in May 2004 and has written such stories as Aggression, Gag Reflex, and Miss You, Love You. She is working on Like the Red Rose… and Mukashi, Mukashi and receives an average of 6.05 reviews per chapter.

At university, Anomura is working toward a bachelor's degree in communication disorders with a minor in Asian studies. When she is not studying, Anomura enjoys sleeping, eating, drawing and editing manga, taking ridiculously long showers, and tending her plants. She is working with JoIsBishMyoga on "The Best Defense", Yu Yu Hakusho's first fan-animated movie.

"The Best Defense" Updates

August 2nd, 2009: To all voice actors, please check out our thread at the Voice Acting Alliance if you have not done so. This is now our headquarters for casting where you can see who's auditioned, who got a part, etc. We have cast several characters, including but not limited to: Botan, Kuwabara, Hermione, Ron, Trelawney, and Narcissa.

May 22nd, 2009: Since there haven't been nearly enough auditions and we can't start recording with the VAs we do have, we are removing the deadline for voice acting auditions. I repeat—there is no deadline for VA auditions. This doesn't mean you should wait four months to send in an audition; please send them as soon as you're ready. For those who have already auditioned, this should give you more time to practice lines and submit other auditions. We can't do this without you guys, so TRY OUT FOR A PART or this project may never got off the ground! In other news, animation trial has been postponed until all parts are assigned.

April 5th, 2009: I'll be posting a full-color animation trial on YouTube soon. It's the opening scene where Hiei receives his letter, and yes, it is taking forever to color on my own.

April 4th, 2009: Please note that the deadline for voice acting auditions has been extended to May 31st. ARTISTS

A wide variety of artists are needed. Please read the following descriptions and choose the job or jobs you think best suit your talents. Send me a PM, or e-mail me at anomura_the_padawan@yahoo.com Please make sure your message contains "The Best Defense Artist" or similar in the subject.

PLEASE DON'T BE INTIMIDATED BY THE JOB DESCRIPTIONS. TRY OUT, EVEN IF YOU DON'T THINK YOU'RE GOOD ENOUGH. CHANCES ARE, YOU'RE BETTER THAN YOU THINK.

Background - These people draw the backgrounds. Backgrounds generally don't move, so there are fewer of them needed compared to characters and moving objects. This means that backgrounds will also be more complicated. Good "still life" drawing skills are required. Also, you must be able to look at the characters and decide how the background will be formed around them.

Keyframe - These people draw the key moments in the action, called "keyframes." They follow the storyboards generally, but also add in their own ideas for how the characters should move. Note that keyframe artists should be creative and be able to make pictures "move."

Inbetween - These are the guys who fill in everything between the keyframes. This doesn't require as much skill with drawing. It does involve a LOT of patience and the ability to trace well. Essentially, you look at the keyframe and alter it a tiny tiny bit to look more like the keyframe that comes after it. It is TEDIOUS, but necessary so that the movements don't look choppy. This is the job that requires the least amount of skill, so if you're okay with tracing, this is the job for you.

Colorists - These people color in everything from backgrounds to keyframes and inbetween frames. There will be no real painting involved; instead, a photo editing program such as PhotoShop will be used to color the images. This requires a good sense of color. To reduce the workload, colorists will be separated into groups; a small group will work on backgrounds, while the others will work on all moving pictures (keyframes and inbetween). Coloring each frame is even more tedious than the drawing required from inbetweeners, so we will try to assign as many people as possible to this field.

Special effects (SFX) - The SFX crew adds a variety of special effects. You know that awesome blue glow around Yuusuke's finger when he fires the Spirit Gun? Well, that glow is a special effect added AFTER the drawing of Yuusuke pointing a non-glowing finger is completely drawn and colored. Again, PhotoShop is a decent tool, but if you have a preferred program for SFX feel free to use it.

ACTORS

Auditions will begin immediately. Post videos on YouTube or any other video site and send a link to anomura_the_padawan@yahoo.com (Note: For YouTube users, send a PM to ThePrimeSuspects.) I will NOT be the only person doing casting; JoIsBishMyoga will most likely see many of the auditions. Other casting people can include anyone from my Japanese professor to my pet kitty.

Harry Potter - These characters speak English throughout the entire story. You will not be required to fake a British accent simply because Americans in general THINK they're good at it, but really suck. Hugh Laurie can do a flawless American accent despite being British, but in general an American can always tell if a foreigner is faking an American accent. Well, the reverse is also true: A Brit can always tell when a foreigner is faking a British accent. Therefore, please do NOT attempt ANY accents unless you really, really think you can pull it off. For the audition, you have two options:

. . . . . . . You can read/act out lines from the canon Harry Potter books.

. . . . . . . You can also request a small excerpt from the "The Best Defense" screenplay and read/act out the lines.

Yu Yu Hakusho - PLEASE NOTE that these characters DO speak Japanese in the opening scenes and at various other points in the story. You do not need to know the language; you will, however, be required to "fake it." If you can't fit your mouth around the Japanese words, you don't want to try for any of the Yu Yu Hakusho characters. Go back up a few paragraphs and check out the Harry Potter section. If you haven't been scared off yet, for the audition, you have two options:

. . . . . . . You can just do a quick fandub from the original anime and send it to me. See Japanese Language Audition below.

. . . . . . . You can also request a small excerpt from the "The Best Defense" screenplay and read/act out the lines. You will be given one or two scenes in English and one or two scenes in Japanese; both languages will be required.

. . . . . . . JAPANESE LANGUAGE AUDITION If you decided to fandub the anime instead of get the screenplay scenes for your character, a sample of your Japanese will be required. Japanese lines are available upon request. Sound it out syllable by syllable; the vowels are just like the ones in Spanish, but the /r/ is somewhere between /r/ and /l/ and the stress usually goes on the beginning of the word, not the end. Naturally, if you demonstrate potential but have flaws in your pronunciation, I'm willing to help you with it.
