Author has written 14 stories for Song of the Lioness, Flatland, Katherine Kurtz, and Harry Potter.

I will probably not be updating for a while. Life, in the form of college, has intervened again, and I'm going to be hard pressed to survive it

It might be apparent from what I write and how I write it that I'm a college student of the literature persuasion. That's mostly true, although I have a few personal variations on it. I like fantasy, but I don't tend to write fanfic for the authors I'm most passionate about (Currently: Lois McMaster Bujold, Megan Whalen Turner, some Diana Wynne Jones, Patricia Elliot).

I try to keep my fics canonical, at least as far as the letter of the law is concerned. It probably helps that my one large-scale story ("Condemned to Repeat") is set in the vaguely near-future Tortall, and my current concern is Carthak ("Sub Malis Principibus," "Inheritance," "Empire's Heir") where there is both less canon and canonically less moral restraint.

I am more embarrassed than pleased by my oldest stories (namely: the ones not detailed immediately below) these days; I guess I leave them up to maintain a façade of frank disclosure and humility. On the other hand, they provide a view of where my fanfic-writing has come from: how my style has changed (and, I hope, improved), how my concerns have matured (or not), and what themes I have always liked to explore.

Stuff what I've written:

Tamora Pierce
Multi-chapter

"Condemned to Repeat": post PoS/Trickster, Alanna's son Thom accidentally brings Roger back. Who has now killed Jonathan. Only this time getting rid of him is more painful than just sticking a sword in the guy. And then there's the problem of what has to be done about Thom. It's kind an angst-fest, actually. The summary is serious about "no happy ending."

"Empire's Heir": pre Emperor Mage, Kaddar lives the normal life of a young Carthaki nobleman: school, friends, rivalries, family. And trying not to do anything that will make his paranoid and powerful uncle suspect and/or kill him. Add a slave -- the son of the man who was responsible for his father's death (unless that was the Emperor's fault, too) -- a whole lot of classic Carthaki poetry (written by your obedient), a few innuendos, casual misogyny, and you have...something. (IN PROGRESS)

Oneshot

"Sub Malis Principibus" and "Inheritance": two 'prequel' stories to "Empire's Heir." Also Kaddar-centric, also dealing with him trying to make sense of his life, what it means to be a nobleman in a tyranny, and how to live up to his father's example.

"Tableware", a little Kalasin/Kaddar moment. Alternately, a dialogic attempt to reconcile the bizarre caricature of exotic eastern slavery of Emperor Mage with something more plausible.

"Recollections": a snap-shot of Sandry, from a sometime classmate at Winding Circle. Because all those noblewomen, even without the advantages of interesting magic and connections to royalty in two countries, were people too.

Harry Potter

"On a Holiday Night": we all know that Anthony Goldstein is Jewish. So nu?

"A Question of Loyalty": Luna Lovegood at muggle primary school, and going against the grain even then.

Katherine Kurtz

"A Testing of Faith": This was the first "serious" fanfiction I wrote, I think, partly inspired by that short story where Morgan helps out the Norse swordsmith, but mostly by wanting to put him where he wouldn't shine. And the creepy fascination with men of power and authority but unjustified self-righteousness.

"After the Fall": About Caitrin, because it always bothered me that she tried to assert her right to rule (and why am I supposed to be supporting the conquest of a small independent country by a larger one, anyway?) and ended up on her knees begging a man for mercy -- and didn't get it. And this is somehow just and righteous.

And that's myself.
