THIS PROFILE IS FOR MY MERLIN READERS.

I'm now on tumblr:http://kittyorleans.tumblr.com/

Since my story Rebukes and Reviews got removed for not being a real story, apparently, I reposted it on tumblr, here: http://kittyorleans.tumblr.com/post/33097358101/rebukes-and-reviews-arthurs-bane-part-1 As of know, I plan to do the rest of the series this way, if no one finds it too annoying, and then I'm going to finish the stories I'm doing now, and then get myself off of fanfiction.net posting

episode 2 rebukes and reviews: http://kittyorleans.tumblr.com/post/33543785217/rebukes-and-reviews-arthurs-bane-part-2

I probably won't finish the series. Honestly, I don't feel like it. It's become too stressful. Sorry.

WHY I LOVE ARTHURIAN LEGEND

I love Arthurian legends. I’m the sort of person who begins jumping up and down where I’m sitting whenever the topic comes up, who can go on rants for minutes about the pros and cons of the different characters, the different versions, and whatever else comes into my head concerning the stories.

There’s a lot of loyalty in there too. I am loyal to the legends. If I have to write an essay taking a side on whether or not feudalism was good, on whether or not monarchies worked, you know what side I’m on. It’s my legend. It’s very dear to me.

A lot of people don’t really get that. They think it’s odd. They find my adoration for it annoying. They just don’t care, or don’t get the appeal of the stories. Then there are people who think they get it, but don’t. The people who try to flaunt it when they know more than you (“Well, actually, the Round Table could hold 150 people…”) because they worry that you don’t get the legend if you don’t know the details. The people who want to explain all the different versions, or worse, only believe in one version and won’t budge from it.

But my love for King Arthur is an all-encompassing love of every bit of it. Of references, of retellings, of characters, of TV shows and music written about it. I may not like all of them, but it’s part of my legend that I hold closest to my heart.

And the worst are the people who try to ground me in reality. I suppose you’ve met one of them. Maybe you are one of them. The people who try to say, “Well, Arthur wasn’t actually that great, even if he was a real person. He wasn’t that noble. He wasn’t that amazing. He was in a different culture, a more barbaric one.”

There’s where they really don’t get it. That’s what they fail to understand about my love for Arthurian legend.

Loyalty to Arthur isn’t the same today as it might have been to my long-dead many-times-rewritten Sir Gawain/Gwaine/Gawaine/Gwain. No one gets down on knees and gets knighted. No loyalty sworn to God, country, and king.

Loyalty to Arthur is more than loyalty to one person. It’s more for an ideal. A way of thinking and being.

King Arthur may be different than he was in real life, and he’s been rewritten, and he was a silly boy who grew into a good man who died. But he stands for more than just that. He symbolizes bravery, chivalry, honesty, and perhaps even a little bit of magic—not the fantasy kind, the kind present in every day that adds sparkle to the world. And that’s what I’m loyal to. I’m a fan of those beliefs.

I’m devoted to more than just knowing facts about Arthur’s birth, upbringing, kinghood, marriage, and downfall. I love more than just knowing about Gawain and his Green Knight, or Lancelot, or Sir Kay. I believe in bravery, chivalry, honesty, and a little bit of magic.

I try to live those things, my legend. It’s part of my life. I think that the legend promises the same thing to other people, too—I think that’s why it has survived through so many centuries.

That’s why I love it.

And that matters. It really does. Maybe it may seem like it doesn’t—what does it matter if one person sees inspiration in Arthur and tries to live by the ideals the Knights of the Round Table didn’t always live up to themselves? What does it matter if one person believes in those virtues and acts on them?

Well, if it doesn’t, then I’ll just say that who a person is, what creed they stand by, and what they act like is all that anybody in this world has.

I’ve seen the BBC show Merlin receive some complaints. I’ve seen people complain because they don’t like the actors. I’ve seen people complain that Gwen isn’t pretty enough or strong enough, that the ‘ships are all messed up, that Arthur’s shirtlessness is gratuitous, that Merlin isn’t good looking, that the writing is flawed, that it isn’t faithful enough to the legend.

Well, I love it.

I’m not saying it is flawless. It most assuredly is not.

But I think that Merlin pays tribute to the same ideals from the legend, and that’s the important part. Bravery, chivalry, honesty, and magic.

You might laugh at that, or begin to immediately pick apart the statement. “Bravery? Yeah, but to the point of stupidity.” Perhaps we all laugh a little when we see Arthur try to defeat a dragon with a pointy stick, but I think the action is inspiring. Bravery in not giving up. Bravery in trying even when you know you are beat, bravery in being willing to protect what you believe in (in Arthur’s case, Camelot) to the death. “Chivalry? Merlin blows up women all the time!” Chivalry in protecting those who can’t protect themselves. Percival picking up those children and putting himself at risk. Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere, and Morgana leaving the safety of Camelot to protect a small town. “Honesty? Everyone lies all the time!” For all the struggles they have with telling the truth, don’t our heroes try to live with honesty? Merlin never lied about his loyalty to Arthur. Gwen never tried to use or manipulate Arthur’s feelings for her to get ahead.

And I’d like to see you deny that Merlin shows us the magic of the world, of our imagination, of love, and of friendship.

Merlin shows another facet of my legend, a new part that I like to explore. And so it has gained my loyalty, and I will defend it with just a pointy stick if I must. Because Merlin entertains me, and it gives me characters I can love, cheer for, and believe in. Even if it isn’t perfect.

I am a teenaged American fangirl of BBC Merlin and of the Arthurian mythos. And I’m proud of it, because these things give me ideals to believe in and try to live up to.

And you can quote me on that.

(And for the record, Angel is gorgeous, the shirtlessness is gratuitous, and yes, Merlin is good-looking.)

WHY MERLIN IS SO AWESOME

He could simply walk into Mordor. And tell Gandalf and Harry Potter how to get things done. As Colin Morgan says, he's the original.

ABOUT ME

Hey! Okay, what do you need to know about a writer?

No slash. I never slash.

I ship Arwen and Mergana usually. I also like silly things like Leon/Morgause. I will also read Merlin/Gwen, and if it’s a slight AU where they aren’t siblings, I’m okay with ArMor.

Generally speaking, I’m not crazy about romance, so it will hardly ever be the focus of a story longer than a few hundred words.

I like oneshots and ficlets.

I’m a devout Roman Catholic, which… might come in handy to know.

No smut. There won’t really be sex in my stories, especially not of the promiscuous sort.

I respond to reviews!

I accept (and am glad of) anon reviews!

Percival is my favorite knight. Uther is my favorite character. I don’t care for Lancelot or pre-season-4-Morgana.

I OCCASIONALLY write for other fandoms. But not often.

Okay, because I’ve had a lot of people wondering, I am American. So excuse me if I slip on English terms. And I use American spelling. (It’s color!) Not Finnish. I’ve been asked that a lot thanks to the translation of my pen name, but I’m not.

Here is a link to my favorite person almost ever, one of my best friends for a long time, who has been through a lot with me: ShadowsBloodPain Read her if you like; do me a favor. Please ignore her mild cursing, downright oddness, thinking it's okay to replace 'my' with 'mah', and thinking she's hotter than me (because I am). She'll learn eventually. Until then, know that though she DOES bite, we don't think it's poisonous. At least, no one's died. Yet. Deep down, she's a very nice person. Deep, deep, deep, DEEP down.

Hey, this is Shadows! I kinda got on here (with permission, sadly) and have decided to make sure that all people know this very important fact. If you are going to jump off a volcano in Ethiopia, make sure you have a fat kid at the bottom to cushion your fall. And remember that it was I, ShadowsBloodPain, that got the greateh Kitty O to write Fem!Merlin. VICTORY IS MINE! (THAT WAS A ONE TIME THING, SHADOWS! Readers, I promise never to do it again!)

I am a member of PBO, instigated by Kizzia-- Plot Bunnies Obsessive. Yes, that's right. A support group for all of those who find sparkly things with lifesucking qualities creeping up on them in the shower or right before they fall asleep at night. It should really be a crime. PBO is there to help. (Although we do absolutely nothing.) Contact Kizzia for more information.

I am also a member of WSR. Weird Socks Rebellion. I know what you are thinking. Is the rebellion weird or is the socks? Are the socks rebelling, or are we rebelling against the socks? Or are we rebelling against weird socks? And just how many socks are we talking? Good questions all. I don't know. I'm only here because I was told I could wear a beret, slacks, a striped shirt, and a scarf, and scream, "VIVA LE WSR!" all the time. For more, see Cherrytree007. It's her rebellion. (Or is it the socks'?)

I am a member of DREC (the Dragon Riding Emrys Club), and head of NRKOA (Noble Reviewers of Kitty O of Awesomeness). I can also be found written into several people's humor stories.

Here's a link to a genius video on YouTube. I love Dark!, but really, I never thought anyone could pull off a Dark!Gwen. I don't own that video; I don't even have a YouTube account and so I can't ask to share this link. But hey, you put something on the internet, that's what you get. Besides, who dislikes publicity? (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AgrDZTlq-K8&feature=related)

I like thisYouTube video too, but it's a Merlin and Arthur one. I see it as bromance, not sure the intended... (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QuaY6J3HgT8)

QUOTES

"Suppose we have only dreamed, or made up, all those things-trees and grass and sun and moon and stars and Aslan himself. Suppose we have. Then all I can say is that, in that case, the made-up things seem a good deal more important than the real ones. Suppose this black pit of a kingdom of yours is the only world. Well, it strikes me as a pretty poor one. And that's a funny thing, when you come to think of it. We're just babies making up a game, if you're right. But four babies playing a game can make a play-world which licks your real world hollow. That's why I'm going to stand by the play world. I'm on Aslan's side even if there isn't any Aslan to lead it. I'm going to live as like a Narnian as I can even if there isn't any Narnia." -Puddleglum, The Silver Chair.

“And don’t come over high and mighty with me, Sir Terence. I’ve seen you in a dress.” -Lady Eileen, The Squire, His Knight, & His Lady

"Attolia looked at Eddis's minister of war. 'How is your head, sir?' she asked politely.

'Gray,' he answered cryptically(...)

Eddis looked at her minister, curious. 'Your head?' she asked.

Attolia explained. 'He had to be forcibly dissuaded from strangling his son.'

'So have we all from time to time,' Eddis said seriously." -Attolia and Eddis, The Queen of Attolia

"'Does the prisoner have any final words?'

Canis looked out at the crowd and laughed.

'What's so funny, mongrel?' Heart shouted.

'Look at all the monsters'." -Canis and Mayor Heart, The Sisters Grimm: Tales from the Hood

THINGS THAT ANNOY ME

Here's my passive and only slightly aggressive lovely little list of things that exasperate me on ff net.

When people say "bad summary, I know" or "I'm terrible at summaries" in their summary. (You know, if you didn't tell us, we wouldn't have picked up on that. If you're that desperate, put a quote from your story. But if you don't do well at summaries, why should I believe you can do better at stories?)

When people say "better than it sounds" in the summary. (Because chances are, it isn't.)

When pairings are not marked. Unless it's canon, it should be marked. Merthur, Moron, Morgana/Gwen, even Mergana (which is just almost-canon!) should be marked. I find the biggest problem is the Merthurs... I guess some assume that their fandom is so big that they don't need to mark it, cuz who hates Merthur, right? I DO. And though I might not dislike stumbling on a Mergana the way I do a Merthur, I'm sure someone else out there feels the opposite way. So mark your stories, please.

when the summary for the story has no punctuation or capitalization or evn haz everything abbrev. liek dis. (I assume the story looks the same as the summary. So I won't read it.)

That's pretty much it for now. I'm not trying to be a Grammer-Nazier-than-thou snob here, really. I'm just trying to help. I've done some of these things myself. Typos in the title and everything. But if these things get me, I'm sure that others are annoyed by them too. They won't help you get readers!

FOR FUN

Because I like to look up Merlin vids on Youtube, I noticed that there is a LOT of videos set to the song “This is War”. It really amused me (like, an hours worth of amusement) checking out who thought which character was which label. I thought about it, and here’s who I think should get each place. Characters from season 1-4.

A warning to the people
The good (ARTHUR) and the evil (CENRED)
This is war
To the soldier (SIR LEON), the civilian (GWEN)
The martyr (LANCELOT), the victim (TOM)
This is war

A warning to the prophet (MORGANA), the liar (MERLIN AND UTHER), the honest (WILL)
This is war
To the leader (ARTHUR), the pariah (GILLI), the victor (GWAINE), the messiah (MERLIN)
This is war

Why? Because. I think they fit. Why are my most beloved ones liars?

Also, some Merlin info on what I think that may or may not bear a striking resemblance to some questions on Ultra-Geek’s tumblr.

Favorite episode: I have to say 4.05. ‘His Father’s Son’. At the beginning, I was screaming at Arthur in rage. By the end, I had forgiven him completely and wanted to hug him. And then he got slapped, and I cheered anyway. And then Morgana got told off and I REALLY cheered. And then… it was awesome, okay? (We should let Annis at the knights and Merlin, it would be a really funny slap-fest.)

Favorite Female Character: Gwen. Now that the Lancelot thing is all cleared up, I like her. She's sweet. Now. She needs to lose her temper. I want her to yell at Arthur at some point in season 5, because once in 2.02 was not enough.

Least Favorite Female Character: Morgana, easily. In season 1 she strikes me as useless…. What’s the point in fighting your parent about his wrong decisions at every turn if you don’t do any good and just exhaust yourself? She was okay in Mordred’s episode, though… And then she tried to kill Uther for her revenge and I got annoyed again. In season 2, she was selfish. MERLIN: “Morgana, you have to come back! If you don’t, tons of innocent people will die!” MORGANA: “No, I’m scared of Uther!” For serious? She was supposed to be the strong one here. And in season 3, she smirked to much. I like her in season 4 though, she was so amazingly evil.

Favorite Male Character: Uther. Oh, Uther, how do I love thee? You rock my socks. Basically, this is the dude who raised Arthur and Morgana and remained sane. He always apologizes but he never learns, and I find him the most human character in the show. He cemented my affection in episodes like 1.04: “THEN DON’T LOOK!” and in Excalibur and Le Morte de Arthur with his love for his son. Then in season 3 and 4 he ripped my heart out. Uther tries his best and always comes to the wrong conclusion. No one tells Uther anything. And when Uther's got the not-happy look and the gloves, I want to dive for cover. I’d forgive Uther anything, even genocide. Oh, wait…

Least Favorite Male Character: Lancelot, hands down. Sappy. Too perfect to be true. Trying to mess with Arwen. I think he should either fight for Gwen or give her up and get over her. If he can’t, then he should get out! The staring at her when she was hugging/kissing Arthur was creepy.

Favorite Scene Ever: That’s really hard! It’s probably in the Witchfinder when Gaius is being dragged away and for once Merlin loses control and screams that he’s a liar, rushing forward. But Arthur sees that coming and grabs him, taking him to visit Gaius. That’s the best of both boys right there.

Favorite Pairing: I have many! I love Mergana and Morvaine and Arwen and Morgause/Leon! If I had to choose ONE, I would say… ugh. Mergana. But that was hard.

Least Favorite Pairing: It’s a tie between Merthur and Merlin/Freya. I hate Merthur (romantic). I hate Freya.

Favorite Friendship: Merlin/Arthur. What else?

Favorite Kissing Scene: Eye of the Phoenix. I’m not big on romance in stories/shows anyway, but that firm kind little goodbye kiss melted even my heart.

Least Favorite Kissing Scene: Uther and the troll beats out Gaius and the gold. Oh, gross.

Favorite Fight Scene: I really love anything where Arthur tells the opponent what’s what, because. Just because. But I think him fighting in The Moment of Truth takes the cake. You tell them bandits, Arty! (I also like whenever he twirls every weapon he gets over his head to get the feel for it.)

Favorite Season: 4. 4.4.4.4.4.4.4.4.4.4.4.4!!!!! FOUR! IT JUST GETS BETTER!

Favorite Knight: Percival. Percival saves kids. He holds scared women. He’s big as a tree. He smiles really shyly. He doesn’t talk too much. He fights like a beast, taking down bandits with other bandits. I’ll take 2, please; and no need to wrap them.

Favorite Character of the Week: Godwin. Do you remember Godwin? Godwin is a close friend of Uther and Elena's father. And he's SOOOO cute, everytime he comes on screen, I want to give him a hug. I wish Godwin was my grandpa. He's really nice and understanding, and he nods when Elena doesn't want to get married, and tells Uther not to punish Arthur, that he'll be a fine king one day. I think we need a Godwin to sit next to Uther and calm him down sometimes.

Least Favorite Character of the Week: Freya. She made Merlin cry. Enough said. She didn’t really do enough for me to even earn her place as character of the week, and Merlin fell in love with her too quickly. I know he likes the helpless women, but honestly! Maybe if we knew her longer.

Favortite Small Character: Geoffrey! He's like... a real person, and a character. He is the archivist, the librarian, the man who marries people together, the guy who runs coronations, and I guess he writes too xD

Favorite Location: Ealdor. I liked the unfamiliar feel it had to it. It put our characters somewhere that they weren’t used to and they had to deal with that. I liked it. Also, they’re pretty much using that place for any town, now, just calling it something different.

Favorite Funny Scene: Hard. I’m going to say… the rat stew scene. Merlin’s face when Morgana asks for food and Arthur looks at him! Followed by Merlin swinging a sword at Arthur in 4.06.

Favorite Romantic Scene: “Is what I want really so insane?” And then he’d rather be insane. AWWWWWWWWWWW.

ALL I NEED TO KNOW FROM LIFE I LEARNED FROM SEASON 4 OF MERLIN: (spoilers)

It's okay to kill your injured or handicapped sister if you get some really awesome benefits from it… Like life insurance! Or the chance at the throne.

When a creepy man asks you to meet him in his chambers that evening so you can give him "advice", go ahead and do so. Alone. He obviously has NO ulterior motives.

Gwen and Geoffrey should team up to fight crime.

Just because your father is paranoid doesn't mean they aren't all out to get you. Even circuses want to kill you. Your best bet is to kill every person who walks through the city gate that looks even slightly suspicious.

Dragons are people too!

Go ahead, break Gwen's heart. She won't even hold a grudge. So it's all good.

In Camelot, the solution to everything is to don a loose billowy cloak with a hood. It'll also make you invisible. But be aware that it will only make you invsible if you are actually doing something illegal. If not, they'll catch you.

Take the poison. You never know when you might need to kill someone.

A man who is all right does not pace.

If that is a sword, it does hurt.

If you tell the person who has you that you aren't afraid of dying, they won't kill you. They'll do something you're actually afraid of. Like torture you. So don't tell the enemy if you aren't afraid of dying!

Around Lamia, be female. If you can't manage that, you're pretty much in trouble. So just have chainmail with the sleeves ripped off instead.

It's perfectly honorable to kill yourself after wrecking the king's marriage. The king himself said so.

Sure. Go ahead and hug the ghost to warm him up. Because ghosts aren't supposed to be cold or anything.

Showing up boys while hunting is a sure way to impress them. They won't get their male egos hurt or anything!

Taking over Camelot is the easy part. Keeping her is the hard part.

"There are two things that are inevitable—death and taxes." Unless you're a smuggler.

Breakup line right here: "It's not you, it's your destiny!"

Also, don't mess with Merlin. Really. Don't.

HEADCANNON and/or THOUGHTS ON MERLIN

If Arthur doesn't get violent when the reveal rolls around, I am going to be sorely disappointed. I want to see him get mad. I want there to be tears and throwing things. I have been waiting FOR FOUR SEASONS. It had better be dramatic. Merlin writers, make it happen.

I really, really hope the theory that "Arthur already knows" is not true. Because do you want to watch an episode that goes thusly: "Rests on the shoulders of a young man... His name... MERLIN..." *shing* "Arthur, yes... I have... magic. But I was born with it. I'm good. Please don't banish me!" "Of course not. I already knew. Fun, right? Relieving, huh?" And then they go off and fight bandits for the remaining fourty minutes? Do you?

I wouldn't mind if Gwaine already knew, though. That's IC.

I think that behind the scenes, Gwen and Geoffrey have a crime-fighting group called G-Force. They know all that goes on around Camelot, and try to protect the city. Gaius is their research man. George is still new to the group, but runs errands and sometimes missions. He was sent to protect Arthur when Merlin (who Geoffrey knows is a warlock, but Gwen doesn't have the details yet) went missing in 4.06. Also, the man in the belltower who seems to have psychic powers when something goes wrong? He works for them up in the crow's nest. But sometimes he gets carried away.

Camelot personified would be a woman who loves to take in strays and those down on their luck. But she's also volatile and tends to throw temper tantrums that get the ruling monarchy kicked out on occasion. However, she will not permit Morgana to sit on her throne for long, and when someone takes over Camelot, she works against them to kick them out. She can turn against her citizens easily... The same place that gave them shelter can suddenly get them killed for sorcery, guilty or no. She's very proud. Also, though she loved/s Uther, she thought the whole troll episode was hilarious; same with the goblin. And she loves to play with Merlin and mess with him, but she is unfailingly attached to Arthur.

I think every male character who lays eyes on her in the show is to some level at some point attracted to Morgana (with the exception of Uther, cuz that's just gross). And she would go well with so many of them... I just want Merlin/Morgana, Morgana/Gwaine, and Morgana/Lancelot to be real ships, not just heavily implied/hinted at. I really, really do.

There is a point in almost every episode when you just want to wrap your arms around Merlin and hug him. Whether he's hanging from a ceiling (I can't let that go), looking sad while Gaius wipes manure from his face and he admits he wants to be appreciated (2.01), or he flashes those big eyes at the mention of man-eating rats (2.04), it's usually there.

Episode Eleven is basically "be grouchy" episode. Seriously. Everyone gets grouchy. They aren't eating (except rat), and people sulk over unicorns. Morgana steals the crystal and assures Uther he's going to hell (after disowning him!), and Arthur glares at Merlin and people are killed. Gilli's episode wasn't quite as bad, though it contained Uther and Arthur having problems, Merlin crying over hiding his magic, and Merlin nearly getting another magic-person killed. And then Arthur threatens to exile Merlin twice in one hour and Merlin grouches and Gwen is BANISHED. Yeah. And episode 12 usually isn't so hot for friendships either.

HOW TO SURVIVE THE MERLIN FANDOM

So you've just discovered the show Merlin and its fandom. You're excited, but a little scared. Every fandom is different, right? Here's your survival guide. First of all, before you get started, remember: We're nice. We're a very friendly fandom on ff.net, really, and not even very many of us flame :) I've only ever gotten very politely worded flames... (Creeps!)

Look, over here, we ship. We ship hard. SERIOUSLY. We ship anyone with anyone and everyone with everyone, and let's be honest, over here, they don't even need to be animate. Arthur/Tree and Gwapple. (Yeah, I hope we're kidding too.) So remember, respect. Don't like the pairing, don't look at the fanwork. Find someone who agrees with you to complain with, or someone willing to listen to explain to them how Morgana/Arthur/Mordred is actually the most depraved thing you've ever heard of.

But don't give up on your own ships. Yes, most of the fandom ships Arthur/Merlin. You don't have to! Not every writer will write it! Seriously, there are some people (like most of my favorite authors) who don't write Arthur/Merlin or slash at all or whatever. You can find a Morgana/Merlin writer out there. I promise. And Arwens! They exist! So trust me, if you write a ship we aren't familiar with (has Percival/Elena been done, you begin to wonder...?) we won't judge you for that. You might even turn some of us into Percena shippers! (Wait, that's actually a good idea...)

You are going to learn about a million different ways to say the word "blue" here. And sometimes the entire phrase "blue eyes". It's fun, but remember, they don't always have to be azure orbs!

Be wary of over-exposure to Morgana, especially season 3 Morgana. Too much youtube watching of her will induce uncontrollable smirking and a tendency to feel gloriously wicked. You can even convince yourself to be on her side if you aren't careful.

If you're new to ALL of this: "Whump" is what happens when you hurt a character. Getting beaten up, falling and twisting an ankle, being mercilessly tortured, getting bruised... All are different variations of whump. Not everyone likes it physical, either. "Slash" is usually when you ship a pairing male/male, for the purposes of this fandom. "Femslash" is girl/girl. We don't often use the terminology "het", but we can. It means girl/boy. "Oneshot" means a story that has only one chapter. "Bashing" is when you, well, bash a character. Those are just some terms :)

more later...
