I rarely fiddle with my profile, but in this case I'll make an exception. I'm going on a rant, so be forewarned. In America, there are little, family farms all around the country, producing the meat and vegetables you find in your grocery stores. That's right, it doesn't just appear if you people in the city think so. It is grown, protected and sent off to be eaten by your every day American Farmer. But he may not be able to do that much longer. No, your food will eventually come from China, Taiwan, Japan, Russia, pretty much everywhere except the United States. Even the Middle East. Yep, the one place that is almost overflowing with people that want to kill us. That is if you believe the government. Anyway, I'm a big believer that not all people, especially the Muslims or anyone of any other religion is trying to kill us. I'm a big believer in the general goodness of humanity. But there are people who want to kill us and if they become the producers of our food, that risk will increase greatly. Don't get me wrong, I'm not a 'Don't eat cows, they're living, breathing things!' I'm a 'But they taste so good!' I personally believe that PETA should stand for: People Eating Tasty Animals. So for the tree-hugging, tofu eating PETA members who will send me hate E-Mail for this, go right ahead. I will read your E-Mail, block your address and delete the message, so have at it. I'm not a member of the little family farm or the larger, family owned production facilities. But I know enough to know that our farms are being pushed out. If it's not by big business or corporation owned farms, it's by urban sprawl and land developers. But they're not the only factors involved in this. It's the Oil Companies and the rising Gas and Diesel prices and the low price the average farmer is being paid. The farms are decreasing day by day. I'm not all doom and gloom though. We farmers, even the part time ones who only grow for the pleasure, their families and all the homesteaders in the world, are resourceful, energetic and extremely determined. Something else that will effect farmers, who produce the food you eat to live, if the NAIS (National Animal Identification System)will force producers to pay the goverment for each indivual cow, chicken, pig and HORSE they have. And let me tell you, it's expensive, but it isn't unbeatable. Write your congressmen, senator or whoever you have to. If you want to help the farmer a little more directly, look up 'Farm Aid' on Google, Yahoo, Wikipedia, AOL or whatever you look on, or search for Willie Nelson. Help the American Farmer and protect your food. I'm putting a little plug in here... I'm going to write a Xiaolin Showdown fic where this happens to Clay's father. I know I will probably lose readers over this, but you know what, I'm willing to take that chance if it helps the American Farmer.
