Author has written 15 stories for Real Adventures of Jonny Quest, X-Men: Evolution, Evangelion, and Saiyuki.

Wow, I haven't updated my profile since...I first signed up on this site? I've gone through a lot of changes since then. Let's see what I can come up with. I'm a college graduate working as a substitue teacher. My degree is in teaching, english education to be exact. So, I want to be an English Teacher. Subbing is a good place to start and I'm loving it. Although, if I had my way I'd be in an English classroom everyday and not just one out of seven. I love writing X-Men, and Jonny Quest fanfics, though most don't make it out of my head and onto the page. I also have some ideas brewing for Ouran High School Host Club and Kingdom Hearts fics that are only half-baked and I don't want to give them the time of day until they are fully baked. It's not having done that that I got myself into a jam with my epic X-Men: Evo fic House of the Rising Sun. However, I refuse to quit before it's done and I refuse to give it a half-arsed ending to just finish it. So, everyone, including myself, will just have to keep waiting for it to finish. Anyways, I don't know that there's much else about me that you want/need to know.

But, I was doing some thinking and thought that I would make a small list of what makes a good fanfic...IMHO. If you go through my list of favorite authors and stories, you'll find that they are all good examples of my must haves for a good fanfic. I will not cite any examples specifically for this list. That would me be mean. And I don't want to be mean. Just helpful.

1) Decent spelling and grammar. I won't say perfect. I know my own stories aren't even. It's hard to catch EVERY spelling mistake or grammatical error. But if your fic is riddled with them, it detracts AND distracts from the story and I find it hard to get past chapter one no matter how good the plot is.

2) Accurate characterizations. When you're working with an already developed character, your story loses credibility, and interest, if that character suddenly has personality traits that weren't in the show. Try to stick as much to the original characterization as possible, while still further exploring and developing the character.

3) A good story with many twists and turns. I'm not necessarily saying make it angsty as all get out, though that's usually a good plot to device to take the story as far away from the ending you and probably all your readers have in mind before slowly revealing to them the happy ending they had been hoping for. But the story becomes more interesting as unexpected twists and turns happen. If you can keep your readers guessing but never sure about what'll happen next, you'll have'em glued to the edge of their seat AND their computer screens waiting or your next update. Some of my favorite fanfic authors keep the plot twists coming while yielding little to no answers until the end of the story.

4) Let the characters problems pile up a little. If every problem they encountered is nicely and neatly fixed soon after encountering it, or at least before the next problem comes along, the story is boring. Think of some of your favorite stories, whether fanfic or not. Did the characters solve the problems nicely as they came to them, or did the problems pile up into what seemed an insurmountable obstacle you never thought they'd be able to overcome? I lost interest in one fic I was reading because every problem the characters came up against was resolved before the next one came. If only life could really be like that.

5) Most importantly, have fun with your writing. We all like to get reviews (I'm just as bad as anyone else) but the most important person we have to please is ourselves. Remember that and happy fic writing!

Disclaimer: If anyone was offended in the writing of this list...GET OVER IT!!! These are my opinions and if you don't agree with them, you have every right to. But I have just as much right to my opinions.
