Okay, it was Wilde who said that--can't help but borrowing the quote for a little bit. He's as witty as he is naughty, after all, he was born to be WILDE! Clearly, Wilde is on my fave authors list. There're also Sylvia Plath, John Gardner, MHKingston, Vladimir Nabokov, and Shan Sa (in no particular order) and many more. I have a special fondness fondness for characters with deep-seated psychological problems, or at least some tragic flaws that give them a hard time. Why? They are so much more realistic and humane that way. By that account, I absolutely adore Seta Soujiro, as well as Erik from Phantom of the Opera, Wilde's Dorian Gray, Plath's Esther Greenwood and Gardner's Grendel. A bunch of people are staring at the screen goggled eyed: "What the hell are you talking about? Why don't you tell us about yourself?" Like what?
