Author has written 43 stories for Harry Potter. 11/27/12 - Alright...yet another rant...this time it's not about me or what I don't like...it's about the reasons that someone deleted all of their wonderful stories. Excentrykemuse USED to be an author on here...she has since deleted her stories because people were flaming her because they didn't like the content of her stories. Folks, if you don't like something...STOP READING IT!!! Just because you don't like something does not mean that Joe Schmoe or Jane Doe won't like it! Someone (and if I find out who...) decided to kill excentrykemuse's love of writing and caused her to delete all of her wonderful stories. She no longer has a Yahoo Group and she's not even on Archive of Our Own. The loss of such a talented writer is one of the worst things that can happen to fanfiction. Why do people have to do things like this? What had she done to you to make her give up writing? Personally, I think you ought to be hung up by your short and curlies and be made to apologize to her...what gives you the right to disparage a talented author? Do you have any stories posted of your own? Probably not. Flamers like you usually don't have the guts to post something on this, or any other, site. You just take great pleasure in cutting someone down...makes you feel all big and important now doesn't it? People like you disgust me. 10/20/12 - Okay...NEW RANT! Ever since FFN has changed their favouriting/following format, I have wondered why people will mark "Follow" when the story is marked "Complete"? Does complete not mean finished? If something is completed, will there, then, be more that comes after the ending? I always thought that "Complete" meant that the story was done, it was over, there wouldn't be any more, no matter how much I wanted there to be. Please correct me, if I am wrong, but I did look up the definition of "Complete" and found this: com·plete adjective 1. having all parts or elements; lacking nothing; whole; entire; full: a complete set of Mark Twain's writings. 2. finished; ended; concluded: a complete orbit. 3. having all the required or customary characteristics, skills, or the like; consummate; perfect in kind or quality: a complete scholar. 4. thorough; entire; total; undivided, uncompromised, or unmodified: a complete victory; a complete mess. The first two definitions are exactly what I thought complete meant, but, apparently, there are those that think that there will be more to come after the story is done. Not that I'm truly complaining (it means that someone has read and liked my stories), but, after a little while, it's like shovelling snow with a spoon, trying to get all of those "Following" emails out of my inbox. I don't mind if someone follows the two incomplete stories that I am posting on...they're supposed to be followed...but following a completed story is useless...kinda like tits on a bull...it serves no purpose. Okay...Rant COMPLETED! 6/5/12- Hello to anyone who reads this...Wyrdsmith asked me to post this on my profile...we are both moving our stories over to Archive of Our Own, just in case everything gets deleted. Both her stories and mine contain the things that Fanfiction is purging. Our names on AO3 have stayed the same...she is Wyrdsmith and I am marksmom. Word to the wise...if your stories are not backed up on anything, please do so...so many good stories have already been purged and I hate to thing of anyone losing all of their hard work! If anyone knows of authors who are no longer on Fanfiction, but are just storing their stories on here, let either me or Wyrdsmith know about it...I will try to copy them to either my hard drive or a memory stick (after trying to gain the author's approval, of course!)...so many good stories have already been lost, let's keep more from disappearing! Hi there! This is essentially a "form letter" that I'm sending to every writer I can get to, particularly those on my favorites or follow lists. If I send you a duplicate, please forgive me; I'm doing this in a hurry. I'm reacting to the FFN sweep to remove all M-rated stories from their site. I've been trying to copy all of the stories to my hard drive, but it's a massive effort. I wondered if you have saved them and/or posted them elsewhere, so that if FFN deletes them there is still a way for your fans to read them? I myself am posting on "Archive of Our Own", as are many other writers. The wave of writers leaving FFN and moving to AO3 (Archive of Our Own) is becoming a flood with this newest sweep. So many awesome stories have been arbitrarily deleted. Could you please let me know if you have posted elsewhere, to what site, or if readers can email you directly and where? I'm compiling a database of my favorite writers -- or anyone else who wishes for me to track their alternate locations, and will make it available to anyone who wishes it. I must say, in this day and age of computers, that I would think that most computers come with some form of spell check on them...if not, LibreOffice, the recommended word processing program for this site, has one...a very good one! I just read a short little story that hopefully will not be going any further until the author downloads LibreOffice or something like it; the story was rife with misspellings and some were truly horrible...it was almost as bad as text speak. The word that got me started on THIS rant was supposed to be 'fractured'...the word was spelled 'frakchared'. Please, please...I'm begging here...please invest in the free download from LibreOffice! I know I'm not perfect, but I use spell check as often as I can...submitting something that has not been checked is like rubbing a cat's fur the wrong way! Just NO! If it hadn't been for that, I might have actually thought about reading the next chapter...should there be one...the premise was actually very good and it looked like it might be a very good story...if it hadn't been for the problems with the spelling. I didn't want to review and possibly keep the author from correcting the problems by being deliberately mean...I don't like doing that in a review. OOooOO 4/22/12 Hello All, I have some great news...in addition to the two stories I am currently posting on (I will get out chapters for both of them soon, I promise!) I am also working on a side-story to 'Schooled' by WyrdSmith. I was honoured to be asked to contribute to her writing and am taking it as a great compliment that she thinks my writing is good enough for an addition to one of her stories! I am beginning to post my stories on Archive of Our Own...had heard some things about FF that made me want to have my stories on a site that won't censor my work. I am listed as marksmom (all lower case) on there as well...please visit me! As I am posting my stories on there, I am reworking some of the older ones, so that they fit with my current level of ever-changing writing skills. The wording will not change much...unless I see that it just makes absolutely no sense to me now. Some of the chapters, as they are on this site, will be combined on AO3, reducing the number of chapters, but making the remaining ones longer and easier to read. There are several of us who are currently posting on both sites including (but not limited to): myself, WyrdSmith, Slayer of Destiny, Allthingsmagical and IBegToDreamAndDiffer...please come visit us over there as well! OOooOO And...yet another! Has anyone noticed that, ever since the upgrade on this site, the notification emails are all wonky? I just updated one of my stories and didn't get the notification of a new chapter. I think they need to look into the delivery of these emails...and soon. Although, it could be worse...does anyone remember when you couldn't update your stories or add new ones? OOooOO Yup...another rant...why do writers make Harry female? I can understand the whole literary license and the freedom that Ms. Rowling gives us to play with her characters; hell, I make Harry gay and he's not...I keep people alive and they're not...but making Harry a girl? Something just feels really wrong about that...can't quite say why, but it just feels wrong. I'm not saying that the stories are bad, because, if someone is using their imagination, how can that be bad? They might need a beta or a really good spell-check program, but at least they're using their imagination and writing it down. I just wanted to share...yeah, yeah, I know...you don't really care, but this is MY profile...I can write what I want on it! OOooOO Since this is the only place on here that I can rant about some things...here's another: Misspellings of names and places that are in the HP books. Please check the spelling of a name before you use it if you are unsure of how it is spelled. The books are very easy to access...they are also spelled correctly in places like Harry Potter Wiki and Wikipedia. Since authors have to be able to access the internet to post their stories, it shouldn't be that difficult to go to one of these sites and check to make sure you have spelled Voldemort's name correctly...it's kind of irritating to see the name spelled Voldermort, Voldermord or Valdermort. Another irritating one is Serverus instead of Severus. I realise that I am probably not guilt-free of misspelling some words, but I try to make sure I get the canon names spelled properly. OOooOO I have found something very disturbing...those authors (and you know who you are) that beg for reviews and then state that, if they don't get a certain number of reviews, they won't update (either at all or very quickly). Reviews are not a right, they are a privilege! You have to earn those reviews...they don't just show up because you've written a fanfiction. When I read a story, even if I've liked it, if I see that at the bottom of a chapter, I won't read any more, nor will I review. I've never begged for a review, nor have I threatened to withhold chapters because not enough people have reviewed to suit my ego. I write for the fun of it...I have several stories out there that only have six or fewer reviews. I chalk that up to them not being to everyone's tastes. Please think before you place that line at the bottom of a chapter...I can't be the only reader who thinks this way. OOooOO Just so that everyone knows, I write my stories to suit my tastes, that is what fanfiction is for. I hope I suit other's tastes along the way, but my characterizations are not going to match JKR's. My characters may cry too much, may whine too much or may not even be evil, like they are in the books, but please accept that this is my imagination working here. I enjoy writing these stories and, judging from the responses I get, others enjoy my writing as well. If you don't like the way I've changed a character, I'm sorry, but that's the way it is. OOooOO Since I keep forgetting to put this in my stories: Disclaimer: I own none of the characters, places or names...they all belong to JKR. (unless I make one up, like Rowan, the Romanian Dragon Reserve Director...he's mine) OOooOO I write Harry/any Weasley child except for Ron, Percy, Ginny. I have this thing about mpreg stories, don't know why. Probably because my pregnancy was just awful, so I want to have men go thru that. :) Like the following pairings: Harry/Charlie - not nearly enough of these two, and c'mon! Hot as hell!! Harry/Bill - same as above - Hot, hot, hot! Harry/Fred or George - but not all three - can be sweet or slightly kinky, but don't really care for all three together Harry/Lucius - OH WOW! The man is just beautiful and the attitude...mmmm! Harry/Draco - not too bad of a pairing...strangely enough, I like the ones where one protects the other, or the ones where they have anger sex and one gets preggers. and sometimes, Harry/Blaise Z. | |||||||
