Heya! A little note about my stories: I love a good romance, so most(actually all) of my fics have a romanc somewhere, but not much mushy gooshey stuff going on. Yes, all my fics have an oc, yes, they are most of them female, yes, i do not preferr mary-sues(or how mary-sueish a lot of my oc's turn out to be) but i don't flame people for it. MSA (mary-sue abusers or aften ms offenders and ms accusers.)MSA's arethose who review stories and accuse them of being a mary-sue, maybe all-the-while, the story really doesn't contain anything MS. They may say this even when it is not their place to do so as a reviewer. While some stories do havea fewtendancies of a mary-sue, it is not really one. The character accused of being a MS may, in any way explained, isn't allwaysperfect in every way. A mary-sue is an oc who is theeffigy of perfection. Sometimes, even a real character is a mary-sue, such as the starring characters in the romance novels 'Deeper than the Night' and 'George and the Vergin', but i don't expect you to have read romance books; not many people do, but they are good examples a very famous mary-sue characters. A mary-sue is not only a writing style, a character, but a taste in reading many people enjoy, however frowned upon they may be to some. As an author and a true reader/reviewer, people should recognize that everyone has a right to a different oppinion and respect that fact. Nobody should makemockor undermine anyone's writing style and taste. An author's work should be credited for the effort they put into the work (no matter how cliche or mary-sue-ish it my be) before the fact that it may be a MS should even become part of the conversation at hand, and should be seriously concidered. Don't worry ifpeople call your story a mary-sue. No matter how degradable the term may seem, just remember that in order for your character to become part of the overall plot, become intwined with romance, or be a great and respectable oc, a character has to be perfect in some way to fit the spot. In the plot, a character has to be perfect in a way so that everyone sees that the story is revolving around that certain oc. In romances, the character has to be perfect in a way so that they are a great match for the desired character due to be paired with(even if the similarities are too may or too few). So, what it really all comes down to is not that a single story may be a MS, but MANY famous oc's have mary-sue TENDANCIES. There is a limit, though,I must confess, where a character actually becomes a mary-sue andis infinately perfect/all powerful in some monsterous way with utterly no flaws to speak of. However, a character has to be perfect in some small or big way that affects the story line, and emphisizes the mastering of the plot to sew a good story.Anyone who has oc's can respect that FACT and NOT the oppinion of one who has NO respect for his/her own fellow author. Many authors will fall vistem to a MSA,who might be able to put up a good arguementby nitpicking and skewing your every line to prove their point. This, however, just shows how verbose they are, and oftenshow offtheir IQ by offering random facts that may not provide anything useful, but instead just prove their knowledge of esoteric trivia, rather than provide usefull tips or credit you on the effort you've put into the evolution of your story. This is not a true review. Don't be tricked into believing your a horrid author by those who just have a bunch of big words thrown together, because it often isn't really essential to you as an author. The fact is, is that most of what they say in disagreeing with this, is probobly built up of a lot of hype and not much substance. And I can't put emphisism on OPPINION enough, in this case. However mary-sueish your story may turn out to be, ignoreassertion that it is so. Unless they don't offer help with your writing after making up some huge rant about how horrid and ugsomeit is, just disregaurd it, it's killing FF.net's banwidth, delete it. One thing is for sure: I do not know you, therefore can't juge you as a person, but the actions that MSA's present in their reviews, such as the offensive verbal(or typing) gestures and the inhumanity presented to the fellow literates, is dishonorable to alltrue authors/readers/reviewers who are trying to make agenuine effort and it proves that the MSA are something less than human if all they can do is blabber on and on a review consisting of no constructive-criticism, just puking up their cruel litany in endless drones, just flamming the living hell out of you to sink your heart through your boot, etc etc.. Your story deserves credit for a try, not degredation by some elitist. Remember that the futher the monkey climbs up the tree, the more you see their ass. It may not be a pleasant sight on your part, but it's also very netorious dishonor on the monkey's part. MSA's shouldn't offend you while giving constuctive criticism in a review. A reviewer should just give it to you staight, like a true author/reader/reviewer would. While I can't judge MSA's for him/her being a real person, I can, however, judge him/her as a reviewer. So I must appologize humbly if this affects her/hispsyche in any way. If anyone claiming to feel differently with this replies to me, I can accept their oppinion, but if they come on like 'How dare you offend us MS haters...' i can only point out that it makes you look like you're feeling guilty of being classifies as an MSA. I do, however, applaud you(an author and a victem of an MSA) on your efforts (which should be noted over the content of the story) an I must say that your storyies are probably very-much-so less pitiable than a MSA's attempts todiscredit your story. A job well done. As of now, I take my leave. Farewell; abayo... does the poof thing
