I think someone should tell the authors of 90% of Snape-mentors/adopts/guides-Harry stories, that isolationism is a bad idea, and that the Slytherins may be treated the way they are because Snape favours them, not the other way around. Funny the antipathy favouritism creates.

On Harry in Slytherin fanfiction:

I just wish that sometimes, one could be original, and not have Harry jump just because Draco Malfoy tells him to. How about an ambitious and cunning Slytherin Harry who is cunning enough to go around all those things, make friends outside his house, show everyone that Slytherins aren't as bad as they look, and, you know, break that isolationism attitude Snape is so eager to enforce - because making friends and getting a good reputation would be bad, now wouldn't it? Then it would be so much harder for the Dark Lord to tempt those poor, ignored, oft-abused and oft unfairly treated Slytherins to his side (because their lives are obviously so much harder than Everyone Elses', and Everyone Else is naturally to blame). And we can't have that.
