Characters:

Nero Sparda:

Nero is a Descendant of Sparda, and the Chosen of Heaven. He is a human/demon hybrid, and a demon hunter. Nero has a very diverse personality. He can be very cocky and easy to get along with, but is also known to be easily angered. Despite this, he has shown that he can be very loyal to the people he cares about. Nero came to Cocoon after being transported there, due to being deceived by the fal'Cie, Barthandelus. He seeks vengeance against the Dark Slayer, Vergil Sparda, for being the suspected murderer of his fiancee, Kyrie. But one year later, will he gain peace or fall into darker depths? In DMC4, he is voiced by Johnny Yong Bosch.

Lightning Farron:

Lightning is a former officer of the Guardian Corps Bodhum Security Regiment, and the Chosen of Truth. She has a real name, but prefers to go by Lightning. She is very focused and independent. At times, she will lash out at her companions, but that is due to her irritation of being a l'Cie. She fights on to hopefully reunite with her crystallized sister, Serah, hoping to make things right with her. Despite her attitude, she can also be kind and trusting. Lightning entered the Purge to save her sister, but became a l'Cie in the process. She looks forward to the day they will reunite. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, she is voiced by Ali Hillis.

Snow Villiers:

Snow is the leader of NORA, and the Chosen of Ice. He has a friendly personality, and tends to help out anyone in need. However, he is somewhat of a hot-head, and has the tendency to blindly rush into situations without a second thought. Snow sometimes hides his feelings behind his cocky grin, which more than often makes others misinterpret what he is trying to say. Serah is Snow's fiancee, but also has trouble with her sister, Lightning, who at first disapproves of him. Snow and his group fought against PSICOM during the Purge, in an attempt to save Serah. After becoming a l'Cie, he still believes that he is fated to meet her again, carrying with him her crystal tear. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, he is voiced by Troy Baker.

Hope Estheim:

Hope is the son of Bartholomew and Nora Estheim, and the Chosen of Light. Hope is usually sensitive, shy, and very reserved when he speaks. He has the tendency to burst at others with anger, but thanks to the time he spent as a l'Cie, he becomes more friendly, and somewhat humorous. He looks up to the other l'Cie for comfort and inspiration to keep going. Hope was caught up in the Purge because he and his mother were vacationing in Bodhum at the time. Forced to see his mother's death, he blamed Snow for her demise and sought vengeance. But after seeing Snow's efforts to save him and the group, he forgave him. Though not much of a physical fighter, he is very skilled with magic. He wishes to reunite with his father when their adventure is over. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, he is voiced by Vincent Martella.

Oerba Dia Vanille:

Vanille is a resident of Gran Pulse, and the Chosen of Strength. Vanille is very cheerful, kind, considerate, and somewhat stubborn. She usually smiles, but it is sometimes only to hide her fear of what is happening, and her guilt of what happened to Serah and Sazh's son. Vanille woke up on Cocoon along with Fang. After assaulting the fal'Cie, Kujata, she and her friend were separated from each other. Vanille eventually came to Bodhum, where she was caught up in the Purge. She slowly begins to learn that running away from her problems does not solve anything, and faces them head on with the others. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, she is voiced by Georgia van Cuylenburg.

Sazh Katzroy:

Sazh is a pilot, the father of Dajh Katzroy, and the Chosen of Flame. For a man his age, Sazh is very carefree, and lively. He usually likes to ease the moment with small jokes or remarks. He is known to be the most mature of the group, often being the voice of reason. Despite his attitude, he is hopeful, selfless, and ultimately forgiving. He joined the Purge to save his son from his fate as a l'Cie. The opportunity to see his son again is what urges him to continue living. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, he is voiced by Reno Wilson.

Oerba Yun Fang:

Fang is a huntress from Gran Pulse, and the Chosen of Ruin. Fang is very strong, with a stubborn personality to match. She is fearless, and never backs down from a fight. She can be compassionate, and caring; especially to her best friend, Vanille. She claims that she would to go to extreme lengths to save her friends. Fang has no memory of her previous Focus, or how she and Vanille were crystallized. She came up with the idea of attacking Kujata to regain her memories, which ultimately ended up with her and Vanille's separation. She was found by the Calvalry, and from there, found the other l'Cie and Vanille. She is uncertain of what awaits them, but as long as Vanille and the others are safe, she faces it without fear. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, she is voiced by Rachel Robinson.

Serah Farron:

Serah is Lightning's sister, Snow's fiancee, and a former Pulse l'Cie. Despite her young age, she is very mature, wise, and caring of others. At some point, she was branded a l'Cie by the fal'Cie, Anima. She confronted Snow about this, and he agreed to help, as well as proposed to her. Her sister, however, did not believe her, and coldly brushed her aside. During the Purge, Serah almost escaped with Snow, but was then captured by the fal'Cie. Before she was crystallized, she told the group present to save Cocoon. Despite being in crystal, she has the ability to speak to Nero in his dreams. In FFXIII and FFXIII-2, she is voiced by Laura Bailey.

Dante Sparda:

Dante is the owner of Devil May Cry, Nero's current mentor, and the Son of Sparda. He is laid-back, calm, and never misses the opportunity to taunt his enemies. He is also serious when situations demand it, and also fairly calm, at times of crisis. Dante took Nero under his wing after his tragedy had occurred. Since then, he allowed him to do jobs with him, and on his own. He sent Nero to investigate his brother's whereabouts. Two weeks later, he decided go after him to see what happened. In DMC3 and DMC4, he is voiced by Reuben Langdon.

Vergil Sparda:

Vergil is a Sanctum l'Cie, Dante's brother, and the eldest Son of Sparda. Unlike his brother, Vergil is calm, cool, and collected. He is cold to the point of being cruel. His quiet demeanor is due to his fearlessness of everything. He prefers to use swords instead of guns, believing them to be unfit for a warrior. It is unknown when he became a l'Cie, but he has been to Cocoon before. He seeks to remove his l'Cie brand without losing the ability to use magic. Nero despises him, but they both share an unknown connection. In DMC3, he is voiced by Daniel Southworth.
