HAPPY 10th fanfiction-versary to meeeeeee!!!!! (Yep - ten years. As of today. I joined back when we had the blue logo with the little lightbulb and there were only like a quarter of a million Harry Potter fics. Way to make me feel old, internet.) But in all seriousness, thanks go out to my fellow fanfictioners for making these last ten years incredibly formative for my writing as well as fun and constructive on all counts. :)
REVISIT MY HIATUSED STORIES. IT WILL HAPPEN. EVEN THE ONES FROM THE EARLY 2000s!!
Welcome to the profile of Shekiah Rosay. :)
I've been writing here since 2003 (crazy, right?)
... and I'm still here. Granted, that's among the only aspects of my life that are still the same. xD
I've mostly stayed in several key fandoms: Yu-Gi-Oh (Forever favorite. I may stray, but I'll always find myself back here eventually), Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, Twilight, Batman, and Naruto. I've played around with a few other ideas in a few other fandoms, but these are the places where they know me. :)
As couplings go... I'm a little strange. I used to be obsessive about my OTPs, but I've relaxed a little bit. Silentshipping (Yu-Gi-Oh, SetoxSerenity) was the coupling that started it all, but I've dabbled in SetoxMai over the last few years. I'm a little more stringent about my YGO couplings than couplings in other fandoms. For example, I'm up for just about anything in the Naruto-verse. I have a thing for huge age differences over there... like I'm a big proponent of GaiTen and KakaSaku. I will pair Anko with anybody, just for grins and giggles, but I like her the best with Orochimaru, Kakashi, Jiraiya, and Gai. Anko's my favorite female character by far. :) That's probably why I cosplay her.
I didn't write yaoi for a lot of years. This was mostly because in my naiive youth, I didn't think it was something I could "relate" to. But as I aged, I realized that love is love. Granted some love causes more of an uproar and attracts more meaningless hatred... but the formula is the same. The couple that really changed my mind on this was SasuNaru. The chemistry there is undeniable. I felt a lot of empathy for the struggle their characters experienced and decided to write for them. So expect my first SasuNaru fic (a songfic called "More than Distance") sometime in the future. Maybe sooner if people request specifically. So if you really want to see this one, give me a holler and it might move up on the list of priorities.
As for the twilight stuff... yeah. I like twilight. So sue me. xD I don't really like some parts of the way StephMy set it out originally, though, so I mess around with it a lot. My least favorite element of it is the transparency of the characters. Edward = good. James and Victoria = bad. I think there's both good and bad in almost every character - or at least, there should be. I play around with a lot of different characters, creating different elements to their personalities. I especially don't like how Rosalie and Emmett were made into the "physical" beings of the Cullen family. All vampires are beautiful, and these two get a bad rap for being the most beautiful. Attractive people can have thoughts and feelings, too!! Therefore, I am Rosalie's self-appointed advocate. I like to point out, on any given occasion, that there's more going through her head than "Look how pretty I am... I'm definitely prettier than you. Bask in my prettiness." And there's more to Emmett than "Rawr testosterone rawr." Those things wouldn't feed a relationship for a few months - much less for eternity! So I like writing these two and giving them the credit I think they're due. :P
Again, on a real-life note...
I'm in the process of earning a second degree, but that isn't exactly front-and-center in my life. Maybe it ought to be, but oh well. My favorite foods are buffalo wings, pineapple cake, and banana pudding, and I carry a commonplace book with me everywhere I go (à la Lemony Snicket). I play piano whenever I'm stressed out and guitar most all of the time whether I'm stressed out or not. I play viola when I'm feeling social. ;) I sing all the time. No questions asked.
I love funny YouTube vids. They're great. Old Gregg, Charlie the Unicorn III, and the Bed Intruder song are my all-time favorites ever.
I have to take a rant-moment... sorry. I'll keep it brief: I have one pet peeve on this site. Well, several things peeve me, but this one just confuses me. I have several stories that more people have favorited than reviewed. I mean, if you like it enough to put it on your favorites list, don't you like it enough to tell me what you like about it? ;) So bottom line, if you're going to favorite, review too! It only takes a second, and it lets me know what you guys like. If I know what you like, I can put more of it in my stories. It's win/win!
As far as my writing itself is concerned... yeah, I'm aware there's a lot of it. It would take forever to peruse everything. Just enjoy, and pick and choose based on genre/universe. Summaries are pretty specific, on the whole, so what you see is what you get! All I ask is that you all realize that the older stuff is YEARS old. It's ancient. Really. So if you're gonna read it, by all means enjoy, just don't judge. :) If you're in the mood for a recommendation, I'd advise you to go for The Esme Diaries or A Better Man. They're both Carlisle x Esme (Twilight) stuff from 2009, but they're the best things on here. In my opinion. There's something about the dynamic between those two and their individual personalities that I can connect with, and it makes for some of my best writing. If you frequent the anime-verse, go for Same Time Next Week, a Yu-Gi-Oh story from 2007. It's a little older and I don't think the style is as solid, but it's probably one of my favorites anyway.
I've also started something kind of revolutionary - at least, I think so. I do it, and I'm trying to start a trend. ;) It's called Stories-for-a-Cause, and basically, the object is putting our favorite characters into difficult real-life situations and exploring the way they help one another, cope, etc. I do this to build up sympathy and understanding for things that people actually struggle with. My two Stories-for-a-Cause so far are Same Time Next Week (Yu-Gi-Oh fandom, topic = domestic abuse) and Something to Fight For (Twilight fandom, topic = sexual assault). Check them out and think about doing a few of your own for topics you're passionate about. Fanfiction is a fun hobby, but it's also a great forum for sharing ideas with others. We all have the potential to become passionate activists, so inspire one another to change the world!
In case you haven't noticed... I really love babies. Like, really. I want one of my own, but alas, my man and I are not in a stable enough situation right now. We will be soon enough, but until then, they will just pop up all over the place in my fanfiction. Examples include The Esme Diaries, Rosalie's Baby, What About Me?, Long Distance, etc etc. So, I hope everyone likes babies and pregnant people.
A beautiful "Story People" (Brian Andreas) story that describes me completely: "I'm better with words when I don't want anything because then I'm just glad to be alive & words are my happy sounds."
This isn't really relevant to anything, but I'm also a sufferer of moderate-to-severe Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder. I have been in treatment for it for several years now, but it's still ever-present - and a struggle sometimes. If you want to commiserate, message me. I promise I will feel your pain. Also, if you have any questions about the disease, I'm willing to be a resource. Gotta spread the knowledge. After all, we're just like you - we just wash our hands a little more often. ;)
In conclusion... I'm a nice person. At least, I try. ;) My idols (in no particular order) are Leonardo da Vinci, Alan Alda, Mahatma Gandi, Weird Al, Jimmy Buffett, Daniel Handler, Mr. Rogers, and Mother Teresa. Drop me a line (or a review, hint-hint) because I like making new friends! :)
