Author has written 29 stories for Lord of the Rings, Metroid, Harry Potter, and Dragon Age.

I'm a high school English teacher by day, and a rogue fanfiction author by night. I believe that aging is mandatory, but growing up is optional, thus I've chosen not to grow up. I'm a gamer, and love seeing beyond the puzzles and platforming to the stories beneath, and the characters involved. Between my literary background and my musical one, I wind up involving a good deal of allusions from all over the place, and have lengthy iTunes playlists I listen to while working on my writing. I write fiction, both fan and original, and sate my love of analytical writing over on www.greywardens.com where I go by... big surprise: JRain. I've also started the blog "Gamer, Writer, Cynic" at http://jayrain.wordpress.com.

Like writing about Dragon Age? Want to talk about writing about Dragon Age with other like-minded individuals? http://forum.fanfiction.net/forum/Dragon_Age_Writers_Corner/95729/ A non-RP forum to do just that! We've started doing DAWC challenges! And they're fun!

"The Young Alistair Chronicles" C2: http://www.fanfiction.net/community/The_Young_Alistair_Chronicles/93594/. Because who doesn't love the poor kid who got sent off to the Chantry, only to be wrapped up in saving Ferelden?

Cailancentric Fics:

NEW!! Returns a King: I love Cailan so much, it was only a matter of time before I wrote my own AU where he survives. Cailan made many mistakes before and during Ostagar. But whether by fate or chance, he now has a second opportunity to make things right. But a second chance doesn't mean it will be easy. His road will be filled with more choices and consequences, where he'll have to apply his lessons, and learn new ones.

Sneaking: 9/12/11: OMG, over 100 reviews!!!!! Thank you SOOO MUCH to everyone who's reviewed, and the alerts and favorites. I am really honored, and both humbled and gratified by the continued support. Really, it means so much :D A collection of linked shorts depicting a young Cailan's curiosity and search for the truth after one particularly curious trip to Redcliffe... It's character exploration through Writing in many different styles, voices, and perspectives. It opens up after "Second Born", and will continue up through Ostagar. 10/18/11: Sneaking is complete.

Timeline: Got to thinking and thought, for my own sanity, I'd put my Cailan/Alistair stories in chronological order:

Questing Eyes

Second Born

Sneaking

The Upper Hand (takes place around "Sneaking" chapters 19-21ish)

A Servant's Place (set around chapter 21-22ish of "Sneaking")

Beautiful Prison (set between chapters 22 and 23 of "Sneaking")

Stain On Your Soul (Post-Sneaking; DAWC Halloween challenge)

(and as I write other various Cailan bits and bobs, they'll go in here)

NaNoWriMo 2011: Returns A King: Validated on November 30th with 73,045 words. Story itself needs a little more work, but I will get to work editing it soon!

Fianna-centric Stories: Fianna Cousland, rogue from Highever, and my personal favorite Warden. Her stories:

Rogue Heart: Fianna's origin story, going back to her early years and proceeding up through the escape from Highever. Just started; hoping to post chapter 1 soon!

The Hurricane Trilogy

Three novel-length fanfictions set in the Dragon Age universe and centering on Grey Warden Fianna Cousland; the trilogy title and all three books' titles are taken from songs whose lyrics inspire the themes of the story being told. The title of the trilogy as a whole comes from the 30 Seconds to Mars song of the same name.

1. This Is War: Set in the Dragon Age fandom, it follows Fianna Cousland through her Joining ritual and all that ensues. I have included some dialogue from the game, and utilized inspiration from the 30 Seconds to Mars song of the same name, which plays during the Origins credits. It is the first of a projected trilogy. I have followed Fianna through the game, but as some things in-game don't always make sense, I've taken some liberties. I've also added those conversations and moments that don't happen in the game, and those thoughts the Warden may be thinking as he/she embarks on a quest to save the world. More than a retelling of the game, this is a story of a young adult who shoulders a great burden; but the greatest of all is discovering who she is, what she's capable of, and remaining true to that. Complete.

2. Hurricane: In progress...(actually, This Is War is complete but for some small edits; just posting in small increments. Hurricane is 150 pages in, just over 1/3 of the way done. Not going to say what exactly it covers, as I don't want to spoil This Is War.)

3. Embrace the Storm: In outline form

1. Returns A King » reviews
AU. Whether it was fate or chance, Cailan survived Ostagar: barely. But very few people know that, and he will use that to his advantage on his quest to reclaim his throne from Loghain, see the Blight ended, his relationship with Anora mended, and Ferelden restored. Second chances aren't for wasting. (Utilizes my "Sneaking" and "This is War" headcanons).
