Author has written 1 story for Stargate: SG-1.
Here's all the technical who-knows-what you could probably ever want to know before reading Duel Monsters
Interdimensional travel is confusing especially if
you don’t understand it. The theory used here is the same as the one most
commonly used in Stargate SG1, every time something can go more than one way a
new dimension is created representing that possibility. I also add that
intermensional travel is bound by laws similar to any other kind of travel,
closer more similar climates are often easier to get to. This story takes place
between the events of the episodes Threads and Mobius part I of the eighth
season of Stargate SG1. The story stays true to the timeline in most ways,
however the only major difference I can think of is that Jack O’Neill will
admit that his pond has no fish prior to the events of Mobius part I minorly
changing the timeline.
Additionally the Yu-Gi-Oh dimension is slightly
different than the one represented in the anime or manga. Firstly the
dimension’s ancient history has been slightly modified to accommodate the
Goa’uld. For those who like to over think things, most of the characters know
how to speak English for one of the following reasons; for tournaments and/or
to read American cards, known from time in other countries, job related
activities necessitate knowing English, natural affinity for language or the
particular area, or watching too many American movies. As for events, all of
the non-conflicting events of the original Yu-Gi-Oh manga and anime series have
occurred, however Yugi and Kaiba and Yugi and “Bakura” meet for the first time
just before the regional championships and in the woods in duelist kingdom,
respectively as shown in Yu-Gi-Oh: Duel Monsters. Additionally all of the
events of the Noa and Doma arcs have occurred and will be referenced.
As for the Yu-Gi-Oh timeline, everything should be
able to fit perfectly back into the normal one. Bakura will recover the
Millennium Ring which Yugi does have and become Evil Bakura again. This is not
directly mentioned but I say it here to relieve any confusion. Also Bakura
makes mentions to memory World that might not be appropriate for some
characters to hear, however, the references made around Joey, Tristian, and Tea
are minor at most. I would like to point out that the reader of this fic should
have a knowledge of either the English or Japanese back story and have watched
the series in either language up to the Doom/KC Grand Prix segment of the show.
Ideally the reader has does not know the events of the memory world saga but I
only say this as it is written in a way that I believe it would be more
enjoyable to read it once before and once after and is not a big deal if you
know. As a side note I want to ask that no one mention the Pharoah’s name in
their reviews so those who do not know and do not want to know’s surprise is
not ruined, and I promise here that it will not be directly stated in this
work. The Character Noah should not come into conflict with the plotline.
This fic is begging for a sequel and as such there
most likely will be numerous ones set in this version of the Yu-Gi-Oh universe.
If these sequels do not occur/the story does not complete it’s self assume that
any villains that do not appear outside them disappear into waiting but do not
strike and that Ryou returns the Millennium Ring to Yugi once EB returns to
dormancy. I am also aware that in time secrets about the Ancients and Anubis
may be revealed that contradict me and therefore ruin the rather nice fit this
fic has with the rest of the SG1 universe, there is nothing I can do about
that.
Now for a word on names. Since Stargate SG1 is the
“dominant” series in this crossover all names are the same. However, to help
for a smoother transition between the two realms and to try to keep everybody
somewhat happy I have overlapped numerous names between English and Japanese.
Firstly, considering this does take place in AU Japan most card names will be
true to the original Japanese, however some are not due to lack of knowledge or
personal preference which is explained as Duel Monsters cards come from
America
so some cards are translated differently than in our world. Duelists from our
world, on the other hand, use our American card names unless they prefer the
Japanese and will usually make a note that that is not the name on that card.
As for people certain names have been modified. At
the time this is being written I have not thought everything through so I will
mention all the major characters and how they will be referred to in the event
they show up. Yugi Moto/Yuugi Motou will use his American spelling. Seto Kaiba
(Kaiba/Mr. Kaiba)/Seto Kaiba (Kaiba-Kun/Kaiba Seto) will be referred to as both
depending on the preference of the character addressing him. Bakura Ryo/Ryou
Bakura will be addressed as an American would be but use his Japanese name.
Joey Wheeler/Katsuya Jyonouchi will remain Jyonouchi in principle, however,
this Jyonouchi, much as the real Jyonouchi probably has, has watched too many
American movies and prefers to be called by his dub name. Similarly Tea will
not have the idiotic last name Gardener, but since she does have a different name
in the manga (Anzu Masaki) I have combined both of them and have made her name
be Anzu Mazaki with a nickname Tea. Tristian Taylor/K(something) Honda, unless I discover there is
definitive proof against this idea being even possible, will have an American
mother and therefore be Tristian Honda using his mother’s maiden name since his
father left them. Marik Ishtar/Ishtatl Malik will be interchangeable due to the
same reasons it’s different in the translation. Ishisu Ishtar/Isis Ishtatl will
be refered to by both last names and her Japanese first name since it’s just
plain better. Odion/Rishid will be explained within the context of the story if
I chose to make him appear. Most of the minor duelists will be refered to by
their american names aswell for no reason other than they aren’t important
enough to take the time to use or modify stupid names like Dinosaur Ryuzuki or
whatever it is. Considering that he is a minor duelist but there is a lot of
debate over it I will officially state here that Duke Devlin/Ryujji Otogi will
be called by his dub name, yes I know all you fangirls are disappointed but he
has a very American feel to him the way I invision him and Duke Devlin works to
enhance that. Maxamillion Pegasus/Pegasus J. Crawford will almost defiantly not
appear but in case he does I officially state here that due to unbelievably
fake name he will be refered to as Pegasus by most but be Maximillion Pegasus
to everyone.
And for the record i own NOTHING, not
Stargate, not Yu-Gi-Oh, not KaibaCorp, heck i don't even own this
computer, this is my sister's computer which my mom got for her for her
birthday which was ordered by my dad...so don't sue me...
Alright,
my story Duel Monsters has now received it's fair share of constructive
(and not quite so constructive) critisism. I am truly heartened by the
fact that for the most part the readers seem to enjoy where i am going
with the story, however there seems to have been a snag. Numerous
individuals have complained about the report/account format of the
story. Duel Monsters was almost entirly written (though it is still
incomplete) before i even began to post and as such it is impossible to
change the format now. I had worried about the format but prior to
posting i my test readers had not found it problematic. As the author I
myself can not understand exactly what part of the format is confusing
though i assume it is diffucult because of the constantly shifting
perspective. I am truly sorry that i can not make my story readable to
you and can only offer the advice that readers should make note of the
location of the characters as tehy read if they wish to continue but
are having diffuculty. I appologize for what I can only call a flawwed
idea and hope that some of you can still enjoy what I have written,
sorry again.
