Author has written 9 stories for Digimon, and Kim Possible. I guess I can update this because kale's permission that I can post his fics is written in his profile: Author#12224. I post his fanfictions to honor him and because I believe strongly that every fan of digimon should have the opportunity to read them. They started a renaissance back when most fanfics in our genre were unimaginative rehashings of the actual show, 'internet chatroom' fics or pointless and plotless self-insertion stories. The way that he combined fantasy and romance, adventure and religious themes was something that is very magical, and I fell in absolute love with his stories. More than I ever have with any published works. These stories literally changed my life in the real world, and I will never, ever forget kale for writing them. It was as if he spoke to me through them in a way that people never could back then.
I have been asked often if I know how to contact kale any longer. Unfortunately I do not. For those who are wondering, a mutual internet acquaintance did confirm that his first actual novel was published in late 2003. No, I don't know the title, but if any of you do please e-mail me. I would be eternally greatful. No, I'm not a crazed stalker, and have gotten over my girlhood crush on him for his writing skill, but I would like the chance to reiterate my thanks and admiration to him now that I'm older and can more clearly express them.
If any are new to reading kale's stories, they are read in this order:
Book One: SoulBound (a very good setup for the rest of the series, and firmly establishes Takeru as a real, almost Christlike hero, a running theme throughout the whole saga. Pay close attention to the opening scene for an overview of what's really happening.)
Book Two: The Bond Unbreakable (still good, but probably the least important and entertaining of the series. Does introduce the brother and sister tandem of Roan and Rio Kuroda, and woe to the digimon fanfiction fan who doesn't know these two legendary OCs.)
Book Three: The True Believers (first introduction of the a'ladon, a pivotal moment. The later a'ladon books are more fun, as are the a'ladon characters themselves, and gives us the first glimpse of the covenant known as Takeru's Vows. Magical and heartwarming.)
Book Four: Unite the Righteous Virtues (good story, but the sidestory/coupling is much more endearing to me than the main romantic focus. Roan is such a deep character, and makes a perfect, villianous foil to Takeru.)
Book Five: The Faith of My Fathers (my personal favorite, and sort of an unofficial start to the end Trilogy that continues one story back to back to back. This one is pure magic, and is the favorite of most kale fans that I've spoken with. Some prefer OaFA, but for me this is the pinnacle. Deep, romantic, heartwarming and heartrending all in the same story. It will take you to the heights of joy and the depths of despair. The last three chapters are just not to be missed.)
Book Six: The Good Fight (an excellent story, but has the unfortunate handicap of including the season 2 chosen children in prominent roles. The religious themes that have been running beneath the surface start to come to the forefront here in magnificence.)
(insert): Until the Dawning of Forever (considering the main focus of this is an OC, and it is the only kale story not to feature Takeru, an incredible effort. The writing is vivid and the desciptives are extremely strong. The only, and I do mean only, fanfiction ever focused on an OC that I've considered worthwhile, as Rio Kuroda and her interaction with Yamato is so very deep.)
Book Seven: Once and For All (a lot of his fans think this one is his best. I swing back and forth sometimes, but I'll stick with FoMF. Relationships are the main focus of this one, and kale had an absolute gift for bringing them out. Whether its the friendship between Takeru and Patamon, or the romance between Takeru and Hikari, or even the familial feeling between Takeru and the a'ladon characters, you can almost experience in the words how strong the bonds are between the group. The plot twist was almost heartstopping the first time I read it.)
It almost shames me to mention it, but my own first effort at fanfiction is also here. A little Kim Possible story that I'd intended to make into a grand series like my mentor, only to find that not only did I not have his skill, but that I could not keep characterizations straight. That, and the plot bore an uncanny and unintentional similiarity to a very popular KP fanseries that I didn't even get the chance to read until after I'd written the first chapter and plotted out the rest of the series. So it will have to stand alone until some sort of inspiration for that or any other series should strike me again. But I will never, ever even attempt to write Digimon. To do that would dishonor the blessing that kale has left me with.
