Greetings gentle readers,
You were probably expecting to find
a long-delayed chapter of Unrealized Peacekeeper here. Sadly, I must
disappoint. The chapter is not finished yet, and I do apologize for the long wait. Life happens, sometimes.
That is not, however, my reason for posting this.
Over
the past few years that I have been a contributing member of the
FanFiction.net community, the site administrators have done a number of
things that annoyed me. Today, they finally found the straw to break my back. The following is from their main page notices for April 27th, 2005.
"In addition, FanFiction.Net would like to address a growing
problem. For whatever reason, some writers feel it's okay to
copy-n-paste musical lyrics they have not written into their fiction.
If you did not write it, do not post it. This has always been our
policy. Please remove these entries immediately to avoid account
closure."
I kept my stories here because I had written in more than
one fandom, and it was the only place I could find to keep everything
in one place, under my control. Now, while I have not used any song
lyrics in my stories, I have committed the grievous sin of quoting
poetry, famous writings, and dialogue from television shows that Idid not write.
A number of writers that I respect and admire have taken this as their cue to leave a place where they are not welcome. I'm planning to follow their example
Many of those departing fic writers have created Yahoo Groups
for their stories, where they can post what they like, invite
discussionof it, and interact more freely with their readers. This, too, is an example I am following.
You will be able to find all of the finished stories I had posted here at my new Yahoo Group:
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/oneeyes_fanfiction/
I
have also added a number of works-in-progress, including a Farscape
filler fic and an Invisible Man/MacGyver crossover. "Unrealized
Peacekeeper", of course, will also join these. Anyone
interested is welcome to join this group.
One
of the things I liked least about the format here was how much it
limited my ability to interact with the readers who had left me
reviews. Hopefully the Yahoo Group
format will help me rectify that.
Thank you all, and I hope to see you at Yahoo.
