A Little Personal Brief

Oh god. Everything on my profile is now horribly, horribly outdated. I stripped my fics because, honestly, mine weren't that great :D. I'm in college and have been for a while now. Tadahhh!

My favorite fandom is FF7, and I honestly love all of the characters-- especially the Turks. What do I love most about literature? Play of words, analysis of character, undertones. There's so many things that a writer can do with style: the meanings of sentences can change with just one synonym, altering implications, even the musical rhythm produced by a string of words. I love to hear poetry, but not at the expense of the characters or their stories. Reading a canon/fanon story about a canon/fanon character is certainly satisfying, but what's great about fanfiction is not that we're rehashing old affairs, but that we all have a choice to bring our own versions of a character to the table-- not to hack the character beyond the realms of reason, but to present him or her in an understandable way, in the way we uniquely saw them when we first fell in love with them. There are a lot of heavy disputes out there about the "justified pairing," and I come under fire all the time for the pairings that I especially love, but here's my side of the argument: we are human because we have flexible will and personal freedom. I can never dispute the "rightness" of any pairing just because canon did or did not support it. In real life, we are not bound to any destiny. We live and love freely, and we change because our lives are constantly interweaving in time. We learn about the world and get to know who we are depending on the niche we find ourselves in, even the people that come to influence and surround us. I'm only asking for openness of mind.
