Update 10/15/08
Hey, guys. New chapter to Ninja Gaiden, and a bit of a strange announcement. I mentioned some time ago that I was playing around with the RPG Maker programs and fiddling with a couple of ideas for games. This went through an interesting course of events. First it would be a game, then I decided I couldn't make something that would satisfy me, so I'd just write it as a story. Then Hullaballoonatic offered to take the idea and write it up, then he decided the base plot was too similar to Inuyasha (which I've seen like two episodes of) because the catalyst for starting the plot is the main hero helping a lost girl find her way back home, and handed it back to me. Then I started messing with RPG Maker XP, finding it much better than 2K3 in pretty much every regard, including allowing me to have large enough character images to satisfy my aesthetic requirement, plus the fights play like the old Dragon Warrior games, which to this day I'm rather nostalgic about.
At least for now, let's say the game is in the works. I've got the basic flow of the plot laid out, I've got some sprites I've found from various resource pages to be the character images, at least one of which is fairly set in stone because it's a kickass fighting game sprite that I'm using large numbers of animations from for the character's special attacks. Basically, when she uses a special attack, an animated form of herself appears near the monster, hits it with the attack(s), then jumps away. It looks kind of funky at first, because the enemies face forward while she hits them from the side, basically, but some of the higher level attacks I've set up just look too good for me to let go of, like one where each impact of her fists causes explosions and she nails the enemy six times like that.
I want to get more of the game done before I actually show it to anyone, though. It's only the barest layout right now. I might be interested in an artist or two to make monster images for me, particularly for the big villains, "The Six" who are basically a pattern of characters like I've never seen or imagined before, though they may yet be changed as I work the story out a little better.
Current stories:
The Will of the Gods Trilogy (subject to change), Rated T
Book 1: Rise of the Man-Demon
Beginning at the birth of Ganondorf and following him through the events of Ocarina of Time and Wind Waker, Rise of the Man-Demon will largely center on the events immediatly prior to the Silent Kingdom, such as the formation of the Lords of Chaos, and how Ganondorf is connected to them. If I wrote this one first, I wouldn't have been able to get away with it here, since other than Ganondorf as the main character, it has very little to do with the Zelda universe. Status: In planning.
Book 2: The Silent Kingdom
A What-if story set in the wake of the Twilight Princess. Link, Midna, and Zelda are the only survivors of a dark magic that has turned every living creature and plant in Hyrule to stone. Now, they journey to a far away land of magic called Mystara to find the one responsible, and a way to save the kingdom. Lots of new friends and enemies await them as they explore this new land, and little do they know, the three of them will eventually decide the fate of not just Hyrule, but the entire world. Status: Active.
Book 3: The Sins of the Ancients
No description yet, cause it would spoil too much. :P
