The first arc of Valhalla, Birth and Binding, is now complete! I deeply thank everyone who has supported me throughout these eight weeks. I intend to continue writing at my current pace as I begin the second arc: Choosers of the Slain. I will also be writing a companion story entitled, Idavoll -- which stars Relena and Heero as the main characters during the same timeline as the events taking place in Choosers of the Slain. I sincerely hope that those of you who enjoy my writing will give Idavoll a chance, too.

For those who've read my newest work, I can't thank you enough for your kind words. Having never kept to any release schedule in the past, it is your words that really inspire me to write when the deadline comes around and to post as promised. Thank you all so much.

I adore fanfiction that depict the leading ladies of Gundam Wing as something other than "fallen angels" or worse, pretty one-dimensional flowers. I prefer taking the scenic route and exploring more gutsy paths to lead them down. I want to unravel fresh wounds, fading scars, failed dreams, hidden ambitions, unrequited desires, and all that makes a character complex and most importantly: real. My favorite character is Relena Darlian, who elicits a bipolar reaction from the fans. In my mind, she is the most misunderstood protagonist in the series.

The fanfiction characterization of Relena is rather dull, in my opinion. I almost can't stomach any more fics where she falls apart, pining for Heero. She has a life, a dream and responsibilities. I very much appreciate 1xR fanfiction that depict her as a strong woman. Heero would never love someone who was desperate for his affection to the point of being nauseatingly pathetic. If he ever did come to love her, it wouldn't be because she needed him; it would be because she wanted him. That even though, she could live just fine without him, she doesn't want to. He admires her independence: her ability to live for herself and inspire others to do the same.

That brings me to Sylvia Noventa, who is perhaps the second most villified female character, often contrived as a homewrecker in 1xR fics. Seeing as how Sylvia and Heero have met once, I find that tough to swallow. Now, I'm a little guilty of it myself since I set her up as an ideological villain, but I'd like to think that I've given her genuine motivations to act the way I've portrayed her.

Another personal favorite of mine is Dorothy Catalonia. She evokes fewer vicious fan responses simply because she's so difficult to understand. In my mind, her character has so much potential squandered by her lack of screentime on the show. Perhaps of all the various pairings (romantic and otherwise), Quatre and Dorothy understand each other the most intimately, having melded minds via the ZERO system. While this isn't clear on the show, the Japanese novelization tells us that they tasted the bitterness of each other's memories. While Dorothy understandably breaks the connection violently, Quatre is left with a desire to further understand her and to some extent, even save her. However, Dorothy has no desire to be saved; she desires only self-destruction and the fulfillment of her own pseudo-pacifistic ideals.

I'm extremely interested to know what would happen if these two met again in the future, far in the future when they're both adults and have come to terms with their own failings. After all, few relationships made under duress last, so it isn't exactly a stretch to say that they're not in love with each other at the age of fifteen. At that age, they had only discovered the potential for it. So let's fast foward in time and find out what happens when their paths collide once more.

As such, I am currently writing a trilogy inspired by Norse mythology. The first of three is Valhalla, which will consist of three arcs, each seven chapters long. For those interested, I update weekly on Tuesdays. The second of three is Idavoll, which will also consist of three arcs, but with varying number of chapters. For anyone intrigued, I update this one weekly on Saturdays. Despite my earlier promise, I've decided to once again shelf my Relena flagship story, entitled: In Conquest Born. Instead, I've started to write a flashfic series for the gw500 community on LJ, so expect weekly ficlets.
