Author has written 3 stories for Yu Yu Hakusho, and Power Rangers. The True Green Ranger Curse... Having not seen many Power Rangers series', this is only a choppy list. But everyone talks about a "Green Curse", and I've discovered it! The real green curse is not early death or being the target of the main villains various spells (including countless brainwashing attempts). Unfortunately, that is the curse of any ranger. But it's love. Or the lack thereof. Dr. Tommy Oliver The first green Ranger is the most known for being unlucky. He fell madly in love with Kimberly, and for a couple of years, thought of no-one else. But he was dumped for a nameless man who never even made a cameo in the series. How cruel is that? Furthermore, Thomas Oliver never settles with anyone. Every other color of Ranger eventually finds somebody, or never had anybody on mind at all. But Thomas doesn't. After Kim, while red, he falls for Katherine. One episode clearly shows Tom and Kat living happily ever after, but when Dinothunder debuts, Tom has not even seen Kat since his Turbo days. He then pursues Elsa who turns out to be a villainess with no romantic interest in him. Arguments: Many people say that he doesn't count in my theory because his romance with Kimberly spanned past the Green morphing Grid, but you should not forget that the romance didn't just blossom during the green ranger, but because of it as well. It still counts. My Arguments: Whether their romance came before or after them being green, the Green always fails his romantic pursuits in the end. There is only one exception I know of, and that's Joel Rawling. But I don't really think that the Lightspeed Rescue rangers count. There powers were entirely human and technological and not through any form of the previous morphing grid or even from the aliens, who spawned the morphing grid in the first place. Adam Park Adam's first romance actually started when he was Black, with Marissa. However, after she dumped him, he became green and had no further romantic interests so far as anyone could tell. I credit this to him having developed the green curse of romance. Arguments: Many people peg his "green" romance as being Tanya Sloan. But Tanya Sloan was never a "canon" romance (if I remember correctly). She's just a favorite amongst fans due to the the shameless flirting between her and Adam (that can also be credited to Aisha and Billy, although I don't see too many Aish/Bill fanfics out there). Besides, there were still no signs of a "happily ever after" even if Tanya had been his girl. Carlos Vallente (is that right?) Carlos, although he was never officially with her, had an obvious crush on Ashley throughout Turbo and during the first parts of In Space, but he got over her when Andros began moving in and Carlos (though not canonically) chose friendship over rivalry. He never had a girlfriend or crush after Ashley. Trip Regis Trip Regis was a confusing character. Because of the way he was raised, you could never tell if he was in love with you, or if he simply loved you (and that's brotherly love, buddy). But even though many people raised eyebrows at the way he acted around Lucas and Jen, the only thing I could see as an actual credit towards a possible romantic interest was Nadia. My proof behind this is because he went out of his way to try and turn her good, but he didn't bother as much with Ransik. She never showed any interest in him and was later seen with Lucas' ring on her finger. Arguments: "Trip and Nadia were never Canon." So? That's still another green ranger we can credit with an unsuccessful romantic pursuit. After all, the way he was raised screwed up his abilitiy to percieve emotions, and thus even understand that his feelings towards somebody else might be something more than simply the joy of having a friend. Cadet Bridge Carson In the American version, Bridge seemed to have a real big interest in Z. Although it was never officially stated, he watched her read for pities sake. Why else would a guy find a girl reading interesting? And why didn't he watch Syd or Jack for that matter? Every chance he got, he was spending time with Z. That might have been friendship, might not have been. But at the end of the series, he appears to have not pursued his interests romantically, if he ever had any. In the Japanese version, there is an obvious crush for the Deka-Pink from the Deka-Green. Even though she admits having similiar feelings (way late in the series and much reluctantly), he never pursues his interests. Arguments:"But there have been other rangers who never pursued interests." That's true. Billy liked Kimberly and never pursued it, but he did pursue that Japanese girl (what was her name?), Elizabeth, Violet and Cestria (heck, he practically married her). However, the next blue ranger, Rocky, had a steady girlfriend throughout the series (I forget her name). The Blue ranger after that, Justin, never showed any hints towards romantic interests. He had a few crushes on girls (as many 12 year olds do), and I think he even had a girlfriend at one point. TJ (the next blue) had no shown interests. Then Lucas (the next blue I know really well) married Nadia, and Schyler Tate is often percieved as having an interest in Sydney, but the one thing that many people use as prove of that is the Wootox thing, and nobody stops to consider that maybe Wootox liked Syd instead (and thus, he had no shown interests other than being red ranger). Jason supposedly had a crush on Kim and never pursued it. But he was seen with Emily. Rocky is already covered and Tommy was green. TJ is covered. Andros developed a crush on Ashley and acted on, winning her over from Carlos (coughgreencough). Alex had his heart broken by Jen, who had a romantic fling with the following red ranger, Wes. Finally, Jack wound up working alongside his only hinted romantic interest, Ally, in the end of the series. Need I go on? All the greens have had problems romantically. A handful of the other color rangers have. | |||||||||
