Andi-Chan's Fanfiction.net Pet Peeves
1. People who say they don't like your story but don't give any explanation as to why. If you don't like it, tell me why so I can learn from what you are saying.
2. People with closed minds. For example: There was this one girl who was reading one of my stories and she was like "I hate your story because it could never happen." That's why it's Fanfiction. The website is a place where you can expand on the plot of pretty much anything. That's why they have AU as a type of fanfiction. For instance: If everyone wrote a story about Avatar in the same setting the plots most likely wouldn't vary.
3. Stories that virtualy have the same plot. Zuko and Katara. He captures her as bait for the Avatar. They fall in love. Marriage. Stories that that (in abundance) become rather boring after a while.
4. Bad Grammar and Spelling errors. I know I'm not a perfect writer and I make mistakes, but when the mistakes become excessive I start to get headaches. Example: Zuuko wus guing to trie to captiure the Avaetar, but he wusn't strung enuff two... ugh. I don't know how people manage to do it.
5. Incest Parings. One word: ew.
6. Mary-sues. When people start to become too perfect, it's a sign of the apocalypse.
7. Authors who reveal their plot in the summary. That's what the summary is for! If you tell the reader everything that's going to happen, then they won't be intriuged in the slightest. It takes away from the elements of the story.
8. Block Paragraphs. I feel that too much detail is as bad as too little detail. This has deterred me from many a story...
9. Oversexed stories. I feel as though they are unnecessarily vulgar and only exist because the author couldn't think of any thing to fill the plot holes.
10. OCs. If the OCs are minor characters, this doesn't really bother me. Once they become a big part in the plot, I begin to resent them. Many lack character development, making them two-demensional. I made this mistake in one of my stories and I have regretted that decision ever since. I have come across a few convincing OC's, although I'm not dropping any names.
11. Stories with out dividers to indicate scene changes. When I first started submitting stories three years ago, the option of dividers weren't available. Now, adding them to your story is unbelievably easy. People who don't use them are either lazy, or unconcerned about their readers.
12. Excessive swearing. Refer to #9.
13. Self-insert stories. It was alright when there were only a few, but there are an unbelievable amount of these stories floating around. I feel as though too many people have joined the bandwagon. it annoys me even more when the authors try to pair themselves up with the characters... shudders
14. Character bashing. If you don't like a character, so be it. However, when it becomes an element of the story it makes it makes the author seem juvenile. it would be better if the character just wasn't included.
15. Misuse of punctuation. Please don't butcher the language because you don't know how to properly use punctuation marks. It'd be much easier, and much less painful on the reader, if you would just learn to use them correctly. If all else fails, theirs always wikipedia.org.
16. Crazed Shippers. I've lost count of the number of times I've read: ZUTARA IS SEXY! Ugh. It makes the rest of us look really bad.
17. People who bash other ships. I know some of the pairings that people support are long shots, but that's why they decide to wrote fanfiction about it. I resent the fact that people are like: I hate this pairing, so they automatically assume that the story is trash. If you don't like the pairing, then don't waste your time reading it unless you're just looking for a good read.
18. Rushed endings. There's nothing more horrible than reading a fantastic story for two years only to be disappointed by the ending. It makes me want to cry sometimes... but then again, I don't do tears.
19. OOC to the extreme. Sometimes it's okay for the sake of the story, but when Zuko starts being pseudo-romantic or Seto laughs (really laughs, not his crazy maniacal one) consistently, it doesn't do it for me.
20. Extreme makeovers. Unless the character is growing up or is a different age from the series, there is no need to um... enhance certain features unneccessarily. For example: Hermione was the hottest girl in Hogwarts with her lucious lips and curvy body... appalling, I know.
21. People who complain about their lack of reviews. I can't count the amount of times I have heard someone say "I'm going to discontinue this story if I don't get any reviews!" To me it's childish and unnecessary. Just try to write for the pure joy of it.
More to be added as I skim more stories... I'm trying to come up with at least fifty.
