Biggest Peeves: I have so many, this would turn into a really, really long rant if I allowed it. Let me start off with these: 1. The Bakurae never were and never will be albino. However, I happen to like the notion of Yami no Bakura having red eyes. If done properly, it can be very effective. However, I'm not sure how to justify it. Trick of the light, perhaps? Hmmm. 2. The "yami's" never refer to their surface selves as "hikari's", nor do the omote's refer to their darker halves as "yami's". The term "hikari" never shows up in the actual anime in reference to the omote's. Yami no Bakura is typically called Bakura or Yami no Bakura, with some characters tacking on a -kun at the end. Yami no Malik is simply referred to as Malik most of the time (and no, it's NOT Marik, get your heads out of the dub!verse). Yami no Yuugi is referred to as "mou hitori no boku" by Yuugi, and "mou hitori no Yuugi" or "nameless Pharaoh" by just about everybody else. His name is NOT Yami, and he is not referred to as Atemu not only because they did not find out his name till almost the end of the anime, but even in Ancient Egypt, you don't refer to the Pharaoh by his first name alone. 3. Shizuka's last name is not Kawai, that's a fan-based play on the word "kawaii" and it's so obvious I can't believe how this was able to catch on. Yes, their parents are separated, but Shizuka would still have her father's last name, and if she could choose between names, she'd choose "Jounouchi" because of her unhealthy obsession with her onii-chan. 4. The Sennen Items number SEVEN. Not eight (and don't even try using the movie as canon; that thing was like a badfic come to life. I mean, if you follow movie!verse, Anubis is a 5000-year-old sorcerer. Not only is the date wrong, but sorcerer? No.), not nine, SEVEN. Also, TWO items contain dark personalities. TWO. Yami no Malik does not reside in the Sennen Rod, nor does any spirit reside in any item other than the Ring and the Puzzle. 5. Malik/Anzu/Jounouchi/Honda/etc. WERE NOT IN ANCIENT EGYPT. It's also rather wrong for Bakura and Yuugi to be there since Touzoku-ou Bakura and Pharaoh Atemu ARE their ancient Egyptian selves. Therefore, Yuugi in AE = Pharaoh Atemu. I thought that the release of the AE arc would clear up a few things, but it seems it's only made it worse... 6. Mary Sue's. Must I even get into that? If you write a Mary Sue, and I can actually stomach getting through your fanfic, you're going to get a scathing review. If you're going to blatantly ignore canon and make every character hideously OOC, write original fiction, don't mangle the fandom. 7. Darker personalities do NOT have their own body. If they did, about 99 percent of the storyline would be thrown away. Mostly, they're given their own bodies out of sheer laziness, but this is just. not. canon. Again, if you're going to mangle the canon just to write a love story/angst story/mary sue story using someone else's character names, just write your own damn original fiction. Hell, maybe you'll even make some money off of it. It is very, very rare that I come across a fic where the darker personalities have their own bodies, and it is genuinely justified. Granted, these are treats, but they are rare. 8. Know the difference between a flame and constructive criticism! I have a link at the bottom of this bio that leads to an article expressing it in ways I never could. Here is an exerpt: A flame attacks the author or the work in a way that is derogatory, inflammatory, and insulting. However, if someone tells you that something in your story is not working, they have not "flamed" you. If they advise you to work on either the mechanics of writing, or your plotting skills, have issues with the dialogue or structure, they have not flamed you. If they believe that the characters are not acting in a manner consistent with the series you are writing about, they have not flamed you. In short, just because they said something "bad" about your story, that does not mean they are making an attack upon your person. Learn to separate your ego from the story. It's difficult; no one ever said it wasn't. Our stories are like our children, and we want to send them out into the world and learn that they were cherished, rather than reviled. But if your kid eats paste, dude... your kid eats paste. Not telling you so doesn't change the fact. Sure, it hurts to be told you're doing something wrong, but when you take a step back and look at your story objectively - something that is hard for all of us to do - most of the time, the criticism is correct, and you should learn from it and grow. Otherwise your writing will become stagnant, and one day, several years from now, you will look back at what you wrote and wonder what sort of mushroom you ate. Trust me. I've been there. Non-Anime Stuff: I'm a writer and an editor, I work for the state government, and I prefer to waste my time writing fanfiction that can, for obvious reasons, never get published. I am rather fond of fantasy, Victorian Literature, and H. P. Lovecraft. I'm a comfortably agnostic existentialist who is saddened to see this country so split upon the knife of religion. I get irritated by a lot of things very easily, most concerning poor writing skills and supposed "writers" flaunting their meager ability. I have been called "snobbish", but I prefer to think of myself as educated. I am a self-proclaimed villain fangirl, and find that the evil characters always have so much more depth to them than their good-hearted counterparts. I love to edit, so if you feel you can handle honest, often blunt constructive criticism, hit me up. But be warned: you may not like what you hear.
