Who I Am: I am a 30-year-old woman living in the northeastern United States, and I work in a magazine & tobacco shop. I have brown hair, brown eyes, glasses, a tendency to flush heavily for no apparent reason, a slightly off-kilter sense of humor, shaky time-management skills, eight bookcases, a very long to-read list, and a weakness for houseplants and Coca-Cola. I am a committed Unitarian Universalist and frequently teach religious education in my local congregation. I am also a habitual procrastinator, a thwarted musician, and a grammar nut. In light of that last characteristic, if you find grammar, spelling, or punctuation errors in my stories, please tell me so I can fix them!

What I Read And Write: Harry Potter was my first fandom, and I never quite seem to escape its gravitational pull. My next most prolific fandom is Naruto, followed by the Chronicles of Narnia, Angel Sanctuary, and Homestuck. I have dabbled in other fandoms, but rarely for very long. However, I continue to read fanfiction for almost every fandom I've written for, as well as dozens of others for which I am simply an appreciative lurker. I often think fanfiction has eaten my life.

I read many different pairings in most fandoms, though I like some better than others. I don't believe in OTPs, because I think the idea that a person can only truly love one other person in the entire world is sad, scary, stupid, and demonstrably false. I don't have preferences as to het, slash, or femslash pairings -- those would be het, yaoi, and yuri for those with anime fandom backgrounds -- and I seem to have fallen into writing threesomes as well. In an ideal world, none of those things would be issues, but everything anyone writes will offend somebody so I feel I should provide fair warning.

I use original characters for three reasons: 1) canon characters often won't fit into the niches I need to fill; 2) I enjoy having greater control over certain parts of my stories; and 3) I'm used to writing original fiction. I try my hardest not to twist canon around any OCs; they exist to serve the stories, not to make the stories serve them. However, as many people are wary of OCs, I feel I should provide warning about that as well.

Archive Policy, as of 10/16/11:

My old policy was to freely allow archiving, on the sole condition that the archiver informed me what was going on with my stories. This is no longer the case.

In light of a recent issue in Narnia fandom, where a blogger going by Narnian Caparison has been posting other people's stories in pdf files without asking the writers' permission or even notifying us after the fact, has been editing said stories without asking permission (stripping italics, removing all contextual information, and maybe other changes as well; she feels free to edit for "clarity," which is a horribly fuzzy area), and is refusing to practice basic courtesy and apologize, let alone take the pdfs down when asked, I am changing my archiving policy.

Henceforth, ASK ME FIRST. I will almost certainly say yes, but I like to know where my stories are, and have some assurance that the people running the archives will listen to writers' concerns instead of ignoring our requests and arguing against threats we have not made. Sorry for any inconvenience.

Note: To clarify, this does not apply to links. (Links are fine! Links are wonderful! Links are ridiculously flattering!) What I object to is people reposting the actual content of my stories on other sites without my permission.
