| Lady Lark |
Author has written 31 stories for Dragon Ball Z, Please Save My Earth, Hikaru no Go, Fushigi Yuugi, CSI, Misc. Anime/Manga, Spirited Away, Final Fantasy IX, Cowboy Bebop, Pirates of the Caribbean, and Naruto. About me Name: Classified - If I know you, I am pretty open about it, otherwise I answer to Lady Lark, LL, Lark, Larkeh, and Larkie. My Philosophy on Reading and Writing I write the kind of stories that I want to read or the kind of story that makes me think or feel. I use fanfiction as a springboard into actually writing my own original works - however considering that I am a very slow writer. It seems unlikely that this will ever turn into a career. And I'm fine with that, really. I love and revere constructive criticism. It can be harsh so long as it makes valid points, although I will admit that I don't like vindictive reviews. So if you are flaming me because I left con-crit on your story I will laugh at you. I firmly believe that everyone has the right to speak their opinions. This includes me. I am also one of those authors that is first and foremost a reader. I read a helluva lot more than I write. It is not unusual for me to have 10 or more stories open at a given time. I also try to leave a review on all of them. Although sometimes, I forget. I have a low tolerance for homophones, breaking the fourth wall, and Out of Character Theatre. As a reader, I like tight plots, engaging characters, and prose that keeps my interest. I absolutely hate the Flashback/End Flashback scene breaks. Learn to use scene changes or elements in the prose to get that across. I have one of the worst habits of any writer. I write very slowly. The continents move faster, I am not joking. I will get distracted, blocked, bored, or busy and it will appear I have abandoned a story. I haven't. I plan on finishing all of my stories, someday. I am keeping myself from starting new projects or going to new fandoms because of this. I've got about three plot bunnies that are biting me hard so I want to finish at least one of my three multi-chapters before I even think of hitting the new fics. Damn you, Naruto, for sucking me into your fandom! Several of my stories have won awards. I have tried to note which ones in my story summaries. Thoughts on pairings I like romance. There is a time and a place for schmalpy, sappy fiction and a time for angst. Like in any story, I want my characters to be in character. I don't like it when the characterization is turned on its ear for no apparent reason just to make a pairing work easier. Yamcha is not an abuser; Vegeta, Hiei, and Heero are not singing and flower-giving lovers; Relena, Miaka, and Sakura aren't bitches; on that token Sakura is not a slut and neither is Naruto or Sasuke, and no matter what anyone says Ryo Saeba is not gay. Deal with it - use the characterization and the canon to make your story. When you change the characterization too much you might as well be writing original fiction, not fanfiction. That being said. I am willing to consider most pairings. I tend to like canon pairings in general but I enjoy my fair share of crack. Threesomes are fine. Harem fics: not so much. There are very few fandoms where a harem fic could work: Ranma 1/2 and Tenchi Muyo being two of them. I have issues when age differences become too large: Goten/Bra = Okay, Goku/Bra = not okay -- however if the story is amazing I can overlook pretty much anything. I do not look for yaoi or yuri, however that doesn't mean that I don't like it. It just isn't my preferred thing to read. As my friends and betas can tell you, it is something that I do enjoy when it is done right. And there are some pairings/characters I prefer homosexual to heterosexual. Fiction Update September 2008: Otakon ate my soul. No really, it did. I am trying to pry it from the con's jaws of doom but am failing miserably. It doesn't help that work is going into its busy season - yay mandatory overtime. So yeah, not working on much of anything at the moment. I want to dagnabit. But it isn't happening. Published Works in Progress - The ones I am actually working on. Plotting to Win -- Published Chapter 6 titled "Coffee Talk" Working on Chapter 7 tentatively titled "Dinner and a Movie" The story has artwork. Go take a look at it - It seriously kicks butt. Journey of Illumination (Hikaru no Go) -- I really hate this title as soon as I think of something better it will be changing. I am currently working on chapter 4. Most of the Story is generally plotted out (meaning that I know sort of what will happen each chapter) I've been stuck with how to start chapter 4 I've so far written about 20 pages that all suck and am still trying to work through how to make the next part do what I want it to do. I am currently going back through what I have written and am tweaking the first three chapters trying to figure out what I want to do with chapter 4. A Pressing Engagement (Pirates of the Caribbean) -- This is a gift fic for my friend, Lady Macbeth, she also does artwork and we have been hive-minding for well over 5 years together. This is what I am working on in general, however DBZ is poking at me saying you know you want to come back. There is one chapter remaining and an Epilogue. Because of this site's policies, which I respect but do not agree with, all potentially TOS violating fics have been removed. Thank you for all of the lovely feedback. You can find a completer selection of my fics on MediaMiner -- or on my website. I've also published my first original story "Spring Fog," it can be found on Mediaminer along with any other Originals I publish. | |||||||||
