Scene: inside a college dormitory room, cluttered with books, paper, and various anime/manga related paraphernalia.
A young woman lies sprawled precariously atop a shaky-looking loft, doodling various cartoon characters into the margins of her battered philosophy notebook. The bed’s comforter is slipping off the side of the mattress, nearly touching the floor and masking the room’s small TV from sight, muffling the sound of the song La Vie Boheme from Rent.
The girl waves her pen absently in greeting. “Heyla, everyone. Welcome to my humble (and I do mean humble) abode. I’d say make yourselves at home, but I only have one chair, and that’s where I’m keeping my dirty laundry. Sorry.”
Looking up, she adjusts her glasses, blue eyes narrowing. “Huh. There are even more of you today. How ‘bout that… I guess you’re here for updates, hm? You look like mostly Mission X and Flawed shippers.”
Closing her notebook, she drops it over the edge of the loft and onto a waiting pile of textbooks and papers. “Sorry about the long waits. I know how frustrating that can be, believe me, but I just haven’t been inspired, and uninspired writing is even worse than no writing, I would think.” She begins to dig under the covers of her bed as though searching for something. “Flawed is having some plot problems; I’m tempted to do a rewrite, and What Must Be is looking like I need to revise chapters two and up. Mission X had gone into fanfiction limbo—What the…?”
She pulls out a tattered copy of Opera 101 and boggles. “How the heck did you get up here?” The book immediately joins the philosophy notebook on the dormitory floor.
The young woman digs further underneath her sheets and at last pulls out a hefty laptop, opening it and beginning to patter away at the keys. “Anyway, as I was saying, rewrites are looking appealing right now. I’m also working on a Gundam Wing fanfic for my own creative pleasure, but it’s verging into dark and graphic stuff so I doubt I’ll post it here (stupid fanfiction police), and I don’t have anywhere else to put it. Plus, classes are a bitch.”
She snorts softly and scowls while scanning something online. “Damn sociology and everything to do with it… Anyway, back to you guys. I’ve done some fanart, but I don’t have a scanner to put it online. I’m also working on an original story and a semi-autobiographical novel that would have Doctor Phil screaming to get his little psychoanalyzing fingers into my skull. Life, overall, is funfunfun.”
A vicious growl makes the dormitory window rattle, and for a moment a pair of black cat ears and a lithe black tail seem to appear upon the young woman, small fangs poking out at the corners of her mouth, but the moment passes and all returns to normal.
She smiles. “Well, there’s my life in a nutshell. I’ll post more detailed stats of each story on my bio page to let everyone know what’s going on. Jaa, minna!”

What Must Be: incomplete @ chapter seven
At the end of everything, Guts is 'killed' by Femto, but the swordsman then unexpectedly awakens among his companions from the Band of the Hawk. He wishes that his memories of the Godhand were a dream, but the Brand of Sacrifice remains. This is turning into an epic of at least forty chapters, if not more, so hold on for the ride!
Flawed: incomplete @ chapter six
Yuu Yuu Hakusho x Harry Potter crossover. Not-so-original premise with a very original plot. Yuusuke is targeted by Voldemort as a way for the Dark Lord to increase his own power. Horrifically vulnerable to magic, against which his demonic powers are no defense, Yuusuke is sent undercover to the safest place on Earth... Hogwarts! As a demonic teacher in a school fool of wizards, Yuusuke must walk a tightrope between fulfilling his mission and keeping his heritage a secret from the prejudiced society in which he finds himself trapped.
Mission X: incomplete @ chapter twenty-five
Yuu Yuu Hakusho x X-men Evolution crossover. Yuusuke, Hiei and Kurama are sent undercover to the Institute in order to track down a demon who has been amassing a following of mutants to launch an attack on the human world. Between tracking down leads, keeping the knowledge of their demonic blood a secret, and doing schoolwork, this might just be the most complicated mission they have been assigned yet!
Immortality: one-shot, complete
Yuu Yuu Hakusho. A short piece about Toushin Yuusuke and the cost that comes hand-in-hand with immortality. A little sappy, a little angsty... my first attempt at that kind of writing, but people seemed to like it.
Monster: one-shot, complete
Yuu Yuu Hakusho. “She thinks that the shadows can hide her, hide the marks of tears upon her face and the way her shoulders tremble, but darkness hides nothing from him now.” Toushin Yuusuke fic.
Light: one-shot, complete
Yuu Yuu Hakusho. “It’s past midnight when he comes through the door. The apartment is dark and still, heavy rain thrumming outside.” Fluffy. Toushin Yuusuke fic.

=HONORABLE MENTIONS=
The stories that I put here are my ultimate favorites of all time. I would put them all under my fanfiction.netfavorites, but some are too... controversial... for fanfiction.net. Put on you big-kid undies, people, because these stories are fantastic, involving, original... and may contain graphic scenes of violence and/or sex, though that is not what they center around. Most of the time.
Here there be plot.
The Arrangement by Maldoror
Warnings: graphic sex, graphic violence, angst, and lots of delving into the psyche's of war-scarred pilots.
Why I like it: Fantastic writing style, characters in character, a plausible plot for a 1x5 relationship, post-war, Preventers, and (most importantly, to me) it isn't all "Fluff and bunnies, oh, the pilots will all grow up into normal, adjusted adults despite the $h!t they went through in the war. La dee da..." This isn't a 'romance', people. It's not really 'dark', but doesn't pull any punches, either. You have been warned.
Plot: Wufei, struggling with his demons, agrees to a wartime fling with Heero, no affection needed or wanted. But the 'arrangement' lasts and grows as they join the preventers. It could become a source of strength for both... if they let it.
Tales From the House of the Moon by Resmiranda
Warnings: Sex (but only if you visit the site listed on the author's bio), violence, character death (mentioned by other characters), and occasional angst.
Why I like it: Mostly lighthearted, HotM has the power to make me laugh, cry, and everything in between. Like most of my favorites, it is epic in size and has wonderful grammar and writing style. Resmiranda has a true gift. Read it now.
Plot: Kagome, now in college, discovers the tale of Sesshomaru and Rin. Grief can be a prison, but the bonds of love are not easily broken. What is the truth behind fairytales?
=QUOTES=
"Just because I don't like to fight doesn't mean I can't kick butt!" -Shun, Knights of the Zodiac
"I don't do fear." -Raven, Teen Titans
"Lord . . . what the hell am I doing here?" -Wolfwood, Trigun
"The spirit is willing, but the flesh is spongy and easily bruised." -Zap Brannigan, Futurama
"It is because of love that man laughs, cries, and hates." -The Count of Monte Cristo: Gankutsuo
"Eat until you can't anymore. Play until you drop. Sleep the day away. It's okay to laugh or yell or cry, just live, live, live!" -Goku character study, "Saiyuki" by Kazuya Minekura
And last, though certainly not least, a quote from one of fanfiction.net's very own, a quote that every writer should memorize and repeat to themselves at least once daily...
"...when writing a 'fic you must keep in mind that what
people really want to read, and what is most worthwhile to write, is
the struggle. All the hard times, all the bad days, all the grinding work, all the nasty weather, all the emotion. You can't just rattle off a list of things that happened. We want to see them happening!
We want to feel the pain and the joy and the pride and the
disappointment. Take the gray seas and snow-covered pines and
fluttering auroras burning in the darkness behind your eyes and convert
them into text!" -from the ff.net profile of Keleri
