Teen Titans Episode Review ofthe Week
Final Exam: Who here among us thought Teen Titans was going to be a badass underground cutting edge cartoon for teens? I did. It was, in reality, a kickass cutting edge cartoon for7-year-old kids. While thoroughly disappointed, this episodekind ofmade me keep watching. It had potential. This was certainly a different kind of animation and actually had only 2 anime effects, which still annoy and piss me off to no end because I was thoroughly tired of the anime/manga-let's-dye-our-hair-pink-run-off-to-Japan-become-cute-Catholic-schoolgirls-while-our-boyfriends-get-outrageously-spiky-hair-and-defeat-giant-robots-with-playing-cards-attitude. I like the little things: Robin's animation, including the way the menu was in front of his face when correcting Starfire and utter look of disbelief when looking into the baby carriage (which incidently was supposed to be run over by a rogue bus, completely cliche) was great. Voices were phenomenal: Totally recognized Robin's voice as Scott Menville, the dude from Mission Hill; Starfire's voice sounded like that girl who guest starred on the Drew Carey show once,Raven's voice was Tara Strong who is in almost every cartoon since 1998, Cyborg's voice sounded pretty normal and realistic. Khary Patton did a great job. Beast Boy. Let's face it. He's like the Flash, on JL. A good filler charactyer but not someone you want to see, especially hear, often. Personally the best work so far is done with Robin, a gret improvement since his 'holy whatevers' and hot pants days. His voice sounds very Keanu Reeves...especially when he did the Matrix thing with his hand...y'know, that kung fu 'c'mon, bring it' gesture.
