A Brief Bio I am 22 and female like a lot of other authors around here, I've noticed (at least those who write Inuyasha romance), and I've been reading fanfiction since about September of 2003. After I read a few, I started coming up with my own ideas, and finally got around to writing some down. I love to read, sing, act (as in plays), and, of course, write. I just finished a degree in vocal performance at NYU, and now I’m pursuing a career in...publishing. Go figure... (--grin--) Aside from writing and editing, my many passions include (in no particular order) Inuyasha, The Daily Show, Monty Python, Billy Joel, Harry Potter, Ranma 1/2, Star Trek, Stephen Sondheim, The Office, and more... I owe a great creative and personal debt to both J.K. Rowling and Rumiko Takahashi: Rowling for inspiring me to read, and Takahashi for inspiring me to write... (--grin--) 3. Notes on Some Completed Fics Fortune’s Fool: My first ever fanfic. It’s pretty cringe-worthy, but I leave it up here for sentimental reasons. I’ve actually been working off-and-on on a (oneshot-sized) complete rewrite of the same premise, but who knows if I’ll ever get around to finishing it. Alter Ego: My first completed (multi-chapter) Inuyasha fic (though it was started after Missing in Action). I started it on a whim to break up the drama of MIA and try my hand at comedy, but it really took off. I credit this story with the personal revelation that I actually have a sense of humor (--grin--). Looking back, it has some serious flaws, but it will always hold a special place in my heart. And without it, I couldn’t have written half of the stuff I’ve written since. Good Dog: Probably still one of my best pieces to date, and certainly one of my favorites. I drew a piece of fanart for it a few years ago, which you can view here: http/www.deviantart.com/deviation/35288849/ Missing in Action: The second story I ever started, and my longest to date. It has its ups and downs, but it’s a definite improvement on my first story, Fortune’s Fool, and it got better over time. Maybe someday I’ll go through it and give the whole thing an overhaul to even it out a bit. Wonderful Life: The main reason I mention this one here is because it's been translated into Spanish by KohanaSaotome (see here: Vida Maravillosa). I can't read it myself (alas, I took French in high school... --grin--), but if you happen to be more linguistically talented than I am, check it out! God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen: Lol. It took three years (and four Christmases), but I eventually finished this relatively short Christmas Carol parody. It was never my most popular or highest-priority fic, but oddly enough it has grown to be one of my personal favorites. It’s sweet, simple, and funny, and I really enjoy re-reading it. I recently did a quick, start-to-finish cleanup job on it, since it’s one of the few multi-chapter fics I can do that for without feeling compelled to do a lot of major rewriting. Anyway, the freshly-polished version is now available for your enjoyment. Absence: This is definitely one of my favorites. It was originally supposed to be a oneshot, but it got to be so long that I realized it would really make a better multi-chapter fic. The great part about that was that I got to finish the whole thing before I actually started posting, so I didn’t have to worry about backing myself into any corners. Anyway, I have trouble explaining why I love this story (at least without giving away the whole thing and droning on for hours about themes and characters), but I do. Kaede's Story: This story was a bit of a departure for me both in tone and in subject matter (in that it's neither Inu/Kag-centric, nor a humor-fic), but it turned out surprisingly well; I’m pretty proud of it. It convinced me that I might be ready to write more serious things again; I’ve been favoring comedy for the last few years, both because it’s fun, and because my early attempts at drama tended to be sort of melodramatic. It also sort of set me off on a “pre-canon” kick, so I’ve got a couple of other pre-canon-type stories in the works. 4. Sorry I'm taking so long to update -- I was hoping to get a chapter out before NaNoWriMo started, but unfortunately that didn't happen (--grin--). I have to take a bit of a break from this while I'm focusing on NaNo, but I promise I will buckle down and get to work again come December! In the meantime, wish me luck... Back Burner: 6. General Update Last Updated: 11/5/2009 Been going through a major Monty Python phase lately -- I started watching the Flying Circus episodes on Netflix sometime in September and fell head-over-heels in love. I had seen a couple of the movies (Holy Grail and Life of Brian) once or twice, but I really don't think I ever got them until I went back to the TV series and got a better sense of the whole Python train of thought. I'm especially in love with Michael Palin -- he's just adorable, he's hilarious, he's actually a really good actor, and he's even an exceptionally nice person. I love that. I'm not interested in celebrity drama -- I'd much rather hear from someone who does good work and that I can like and respect as a person. I'm reading the first volume of his diaries right now (1969-1979) -- it's like 600 pages, but it's totally fascinating, and not just for all the Python details either. Anyway, long story short, be warned that my thoughts and speech will most likely be preoccupied with Python references for a good while to come... (grin) In other news, I'm finally officially doing NaNoWriMo this year. Got off to a pretty good start, but then I had to take a couple of days off to finish some real life work that was due, so now I'm a bit behind. I should be able to catch up this weekend though. I'm all about slow and steady in this process -- burnout tends to be my biggest enemy when I'm writing original stuff, so I'm working on counteracting my natural tendency to set unreasonable expectations for myself (which usually result in my giving up on things before I've even started. Not so good...). Recommended Fic of the (insert time period here): Hearts of Ice, by Krista Perry. This has been a classic of the Ranma ½ fandom for something like ten years (I first read it about six years ago myself, shortly after first discovering fanfiction), but it has languished infamously incompleted (with a torturous cliffhanger, no less) for nearly as long. Anyway, now that it’s finally completed, if you have any interest at all in the Ranma ½ fandom, I suggest you check it out. A definite must-read. | |||||||||||
