A Rohanian who eats like a hobbit and wishes she was an elf ;)
I am of the female variety and living happily with a very nice man in a very nice little home full of fun books, music and films that refuse to stop inspiring me and making me think "aaah what if...?"
I like jogs, dogs, walks, visiting castles/historic sites, the countryside and wide open fields/spaces, forests, reading, cooking, horses, photography, music, breakfast, newcastle brown ale, writing when I get time and inspiration, gigs, eating, whiskey...
I only really write fanfiction for Lord of the Rings and the Silmarillion, more for the Silmarillion as it's far better (in my humble opinion) and full of much more tragic love! I'm sometimes almost happy it wasn't written out completely since where would that leave us fanf writers without any gaps to fill!
Most of my older dated work is, as you can expect, not all that spectacular - not to say that I'm not proud of them since they were great efforts at the time and I still think they have their worth and also not to say I think any of my work is stirling stuff but you get the drift... The things posted within the last year or so are what I would consider my best work to date and I am particularly happy with Thrall No More and Journey Home
I enjoy reading:
Tolkien
Robin Hobb
Scott Lynch
Juliet Marillier (well...kind of)
Neil Gaiman
Sarah Ash
Cecilia Dart Thornton (up until I tried to read her new stuff and reread the Bitterbynde triology)
CS Lewis
Holly Black
Phillipa Gregory
William Blake
Edgar Allen Poe
Shakespeare
etc etc.
I enjoy listening to:
Doom/Stoner
Black Metal
Death Metal
Classic Rock
Folk
Snippets of classical
And a lot of things in-between all that
Some films I particularly enjoy watching:
Last of the Mohicans
Braveheart
Beauty and the Beast
Conan the Barbarian
300
Hero
House of Flying Daggers
The Doors
Labyrinth
The Sword of Xanten
Pocahontas
The Lord of the Rings triology to an extent..
Have recently become irritated with reviewers (not of my own stories, but in some I have observed) who do not know the meaning of constructive criticism, who review with a tone of arrogance and snobbery which is in no way helpful to a writer and does not improve their own status as a reviewer or a writer of fanfiction. It is unpleasant and demoralising: if you want someone to improve their work, outline the faults politely and correctively, putting their work down with arrogance and rudeness will discourage writers and therefore no improvement in their work will be made.
It might feel good to boost your ego a bit and hide behind a computer but in the end does it really achieve anything?
18/5/07: my writing projects and enthusiasm for them have dwindled of late. I have mountains of ideas to finish and work on and more always pop up but the amount of time it takes up sometimes just doesnt make it possible or appealing. Hopefully with the summer coming and actually seeing that not a lot has been posted in the Silmarillion section (my main focus) I might get a shift on and begin writing again.
30/5/08: haha a year down the line and summer freedom half beckons - lets see if I can manage to post a bit more this year. Have been terribly neglectful of fanfiction for a long time but I've discovered life and I'm enjoying it very much but new experiences mean new things to draw from and there is writing up there in my mind its just taking a while to work its way out. Have also been going through a Labyrinth craze again and had the genius idea of looking to fanfiction - theres a whole world of fun there I need to get exploring...have an idea or two but we shall see.
14/6/08: Currently reworking/finishing Forsworn. Chapters aren't as long as I'd really hope but I'm going to be aiming for substance over length. I'm not soo much into writing fluffy things that much anymore (or maybe I'm just a bit out of practise...) but I'll try keep up a decent standard, besides things will probably start heating up in it soon...
23/7/08: Long chapters have taken over my brain.
