"We all go a little mad sometimes."
~Norman Bates
I've left this empty for a while, but I might as well write something. I write mostly Baten Kaitos stories now, though I'm a fan of The Legend of Zelda series, Tales of Symphonia, and Skies of Arcadia. I enjoy studying classic literature, writing, and music. I've had my username ever since I learned how to operate on a forum; it comes from two of my childhood obsessions: Skies of Arcadia ("Sky") and Jurassic Park ("raptor"). It was only until later that I realized that "raptor" is also the scientific term for a bird of prey, so it all worked out.
Stories
Ice Water and Other Stories--An early attempt at a Baten Kaitos anthology. It's kinda mushy at points, but I'm a bit proud of it. You can tell what I was reading at the time.
A Savage Garden--Probably the most fun I've ever had writing a fic. It's a Lewis Carroll-inspired satire, a fairy tale, and an exploitation of one of my theories about Xelha. It was written to Jefferson Airplane's "White Rabbit," and is meant as a sort of "gift" to one of the most underrated (in my opinion) characters in the Baten Kaitos fandom, Xelha. For some odd reason, I always thought she'd be the type who'd like fairy tales...
Sprout and the Bean--Funny story: I was watching the commercial for The Strangers with the scene in which one of the characters bumps into the record player and the player begins to skip, repeating the same creepy line and increasing the tension. The music from the skipping record, a song by Joanna Newsom called "Sprout and the Bean," got stuck in my head, and I got this wild urge to write something surreal and a bit demented. I wound up with this fic. Yeah, it's Geldoblame.
The Artist--An idea I came up with while reading a copy of Leonardo DaVinci's journals. Georg has a lot in common with him, I think.
O Sons of Jove--I have yet to post this one, so I won't give away too much about it. It takes place roughly three years after the events in Baten Kaitos: Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean, and will be the first multi-chaptered fic I've done in a while. We'll see how long this one lasts--I'm the world's most unreliable updater.
Muses
Link "Horatio" Greenleaf: "Horatio" is a muse as well as my male alter ego. He's the oldest of all of my muses (approx. ten years) and was originally based off of young Link from the Ocarina of Time video game until his character became so convoluted from various influences that he emerged as a wry mixture of John Constantine, Mark Twain, and Socrates. An existentialist, a deist, and an admitted "pansy," he travels through the worlds of various characters contemplating philosophy and psychology and offering counsel to the characters of each world. His only "powers" are his abilities to conjure music and sound effects from thin air and mimic any vocal sound with his voice, both of which he claims aren't the products of any sort of magic. He loves music and often uses it to draw out the proper discussions from the other characters. I use him as a go-between for me and the characters I want to understand. So far, he's been a cabin boy on Vyse's ship, a brief travelling companion to Lloyd Irving and company, and Kalas's Guardian Spirit; though in my stories I replaced him with Arak who resembles him slightly, but not much. I never use him as a story character because, in spite of his passive, hands-off nature, he looks enough like a Gary Stu to make things uneasy, and he's not built for that sort of thing anyway. He has a short history: Horatio grew up in among girls, so he is effeminate compared to other boys and still seeks out the company of female characters over the males, leading him to being mistakenly perceived as gay by others. His best, but often neglected, friend is Malon (who was also altered far beyond her original character in the Zelda series). He and Malon were engaged when he was twenty, but the arrangement was cut short when Horatio fell terminally ill and died of internal hemorrhaging. Now, the muse is frozen as his ten-year-old self. His clothing of choice are t-shirts and jeans, and he is rarely seen without a hat. He resembles the Zelda Link only in name and general appearance—blond hair and blue eyes—if that isn’t already obvious enough.
