Fun quotes on writing:
"My purpose is to entertain myself first and other people secondly."
"Writing is not necessarily something to be ashamed of, but do it in private and wash your hands afterwards."
"A blank piece of paper is God's way of telling us how hard it to be God."
"I never want to see anyone, and I never want to go anywhere or do anything. I just want to write."
"The two most engaging powers of an author are, to make new things familiar, and familiar things new."
"It begins with a character, usually, and once he stands up on his feet and begins to move, all I can do is trot along behind him with a paper and pencil trying to keep up long enough to put down what he says and does."
And lastly, remember:
"Invent your own mythology or be slave to another man’s."
Some fun (or helpful) websites:
A great site for finding awesome houses which your characters could potentially live in (or, just for fun)
Great for finding names, or researching what the ones of existing characters mean.
This used to link to a different site, but that's gone down now. While most of this is fairly good, some of it was a bit out of date, or specific to one or two fandoms only.
Some good, honest advice on writing.
You can probably find more advice specific to your own fandom if you search for a bit, and you'd be amazed how many archives there are that specialise in your fandom. Most fandoms also have yearly awards, and I find they're a great place to go to find some great fics.
I own absolutely nothing from any of the stories I write. No money is being made and no copyright or trademark infringement is intended.
