Author has written 24 stories for Lord of the Rings, Horatio Hornblower, Master and Commander, Harry Potter, and Sherlock.

I've been writing fan fiction since about 1999, not counting never-published childhood scribbles of Star Wars, Star Trek, and some genres best forgotten. Everything I have net-published used to be out there under my real name but I am starting to pull back on that and just recently (reluctantly) switched to a true pen name. I started out writing Starsky and Hutch fanfic, then ended writing rather a lot of fanfic for The Sentinel.

A few years later I started writing Horatio Hornblower fanfiction, some of which is archived here. Some of my other dabblings include Harry Potter fanfic, Lord of the Rings fanfic and Patrick O'Brian fanfic. I write stories that make you cry, for the most part.

As far as what I like to read here... Went through a Harry Potter stage summer of 2012 but really I read lots of different things. I enjoy friendship stories, both angsty and lighthearted. Slash puzzles me for some fandoms, but I like a certain amount of it (and certain subtypes) for BBC Sherlock. I dislike most romances (unless they bring sufficient angst and tragedy to the protagonists) and despise Mary Sues. I am a stickler for good grammar, accurate spelling, and polished writing styles, and will quit reading after the first paragraph if a story is full of errors. If the one-sentence summary is poorly spelled or badly punctuated, I won't touch the story itself.

In real life, I'm a physician, so I enjoy both writing and reading stories that have medical details. I've dabbled a bit in some original fiction but have never finished anything of any length. Maybe when I retire!

8/19/2012: I'm going to be gradually moving all of my fanfiction here, rather than all of the individual websites it's currently living on. So watch for some new/old stories. I'm planning on moving backwards through time with this, so I'll start with my Horatio Hornblower fanfiction. Eventually I'll get to the fanfic I wrote for The Sentinel and if I'm really intrepid, I'll post the Starsky and Hutch stuff that was my introduction to the world of organized fanfic. The older pieces will likely need some editing work before showing up.

9/4/2012: Having discovered the magic that is BBC Sherlock, I'm now obsessed with those boys. First Sherlock story up. Working on a sequel but you may not get it for a long time. May have to move on to Dr. Who to fill the void until Season Three of Sherlock is a reality. Also waiting for Peter Jackson's Hobbit movies, because then at least I'll get to see some more of Martin Freeman.

9/10/2012: "All the Difference in the World", sequel to "Victim, Bait, Hero, Friend" is now up. Warnings apply! Feedback is of course appreciated. Also: I'm looking both for story prompts/ideas, and for a great forum/listserve from which to get prompts and ideas and to participate in community discussion regarding the Sherlock fandom. Please PM with with any and all suggestions. And all of my Horatio Hornblower fic is now up; most of this was written quite a long time ago and published previously on the HHFic mailing list.

9/15/2012: Just noticed that the formatting is a bit odd on some of my Hornblower stories. Apologies. I'll try to fix it eventually, but hopefully they are still readable in the meantime. Also: if you are interested in some of my really old stuff, the stories I wrote for The Sentinel and Starsky and Hutch, you can find them on my own website http://www.heggen.net/owl/ where they will reside until I get around to moving them here. I haven't touched them for literally years, so be warned.

10/27/2012: Posted my longest Sherlock story to date this week. Please give it a try even though it's long; the pace is pretty fast and there are tasty rewards at the end.

11/29/2012: Deep in Sherlock sic fic h/c madness with my latest serial. Turning out angstier than I expected; going to be a four-handkerchief story at least. Stay tuned! When complete I promise to do a re-edit and get it all polished up for those who prefer to wait for the finished product.

12/17/12: 'A Gut-Wrenching Experience' is now complete, for those of you who want stories to be complete before you start them. Beware, there are still a few typos in there. Working on a final edit and will re-post with extras with complete.
