I have many lives:
For money, I write web-content for an SEO marketing firm, edit dry boring things, and act as a minor code geek.
For love, I'm a frequent contributor to and senior editor of All Things Girl, a general webzine, and Pink Nighties, which focuses on romantic fiction (even, dare I say, smut - but - GOOD smut, not crude smut), and sex-positive essays, reviews and interviews.
Because passion requires it, I find time to write fiction. Fanfic to get the juices flowing, original stuff (part one of my short story, "Chai," can be found at the Pink Nighties fiction page. )It's a direct link, and doesn't go beyond a single kiss.
I used to be "Candy" at ComedySportz in Dallas, TX, but doing improv was taking away the creative energy I needed for writing, so I'm not doing that right now. I might again, I might not.
I drink a lot of coffee, and almost as much tea. I like dark chocolate, red wine, strong cheese, sushi and rainy days. I'd rather wear an old sweatshirt than a crisp blouse, and I fled corporate America because the mundane brutality of working in an office made me cry.
By the numbers: Five bedrooms. Four televisions. Three computers. Two dogs. One husband. No kids. Many, many, many books.
I read Snape/Hermione, Snape/OFC, Spuffy, Buffy/Giles, Data/OFC, Picard/Crusher, any good Forever Knight, any generic TNG, the Beauty and the Beast tv-verse, and lately - extremely lately - anything in the Beetlejuice universe, though I'm becoming partial to Betelgeuse/Lydia. Love the movie. Don't really like any animation.
I write Snape/OFC, Geordi/OFC, Vincent/Catherine and a few more that aren't posted here. (Actually my V/C stuff isn't posted here, either.) When it comes to WIPs, I have no plan, but write as things occur to me. I tend to do one-shot interludes because I never write stuff in "order."
My personal blog is MissMeliss: Escribition, and my bookblog is Bibliotica. I read a mix of genre fic and more general stuff. Every so often, I also post an author interview, and I also have a tumblr blog which aggregates both. Finally, LiveJournal users can find me as MissMelysse, there.
If all that isn't enough, you can follow me on Twitter. I have FaceBook and MySpace accounts as well, but I rarely do anything with either. Well, I play Scrabulous a lot. I am the Queen of using Q without U, by the way.
My professional, non-blog website is Melissa Bartell dot Com.
I don't believe in putting review responses within the body of a chapter, but I do respond to every review I receive. The reviews I leave are all "signed." I believe people should own their words.
