The
characters and pairings I like are often ones which haven't been
explored in canon. Gandalf said that the hobbits are a simple people
you figure out within a month, but they'll never stop surprising you.
That's how I like my characters. For example, many Andromeda episodes
make me wince (blonde bimbo of the week, anyone?), but I still love the
show because it could have been great and so it's up to us fans to
explore the wonderful universe canon only hinted at.
This list isn't in any particular order.
Harry Potter - Favourite characters: Malfoy family, Pansy
Parkinson, Tom Riddle/Voldemort, Severus Snape, Hermione Granger, Luna
Lovegood, Harry Potter(all too often I want to smack him around, but I still love him), Ginny Weasley, Minerva McGonagall, Zacharias Smith, Remus Lupin, Sirius Black and many more.
Favourite pairings: Harry/Draco, Harry/Tom, Hermione/Tom,
Hermione/Draco, Hermione/Severus, Bill/Fleur, Harry and Severus
father/son relationship, Severus/Remus, Severus/Sirius (I hated
Fleur as much as the Weasley kid until she saw Bill's mauled face after
the werewolf attack on Hogwarts and didn't care, that's when I fell in
love with this pairing)
I love the Slytherins in Harry Potter, both past and current ones,
because I believe that they're the characters with the most unexplored
potential. It's easy to be good when you've been born into it, but it's
much harder when you have to make your stand against all odds. There is
much hidden strength in Slytherin and "bad" doesn't equals "evil", but
the line between bad and evil is drawn by the victors. Just look at all
the war heroes in real life. They weren't warm and fuzzy people. They
sacrificed their own soldiers, they attacked regardless of civilian
casualties. Gryffindors are brave and good soldiers, Hufflepuffs will
hold the line till the last man dies, Ravenclaw come up with brilliant
strategies, but you need Slytherins to make the ruthless decisions that
win your people the war. Heroes are nice and good for PR campaigns and
troop morale, but war isn't a heroic affair. The Light side needs to
realise that, too. Or maybe I'm just prejudiced since I'm a Slytherin
myself.
Coming soon: Hufflepuff rant to go with the Slytherin rant. Because
even though I'm a Slytherin all the way, I adore and admire Hufflepuff,
contenders for the most underappreciated group of people in fiction
ever.
Inuyasha - Favourite pairings: Sesshoumaru/Inuyasha, Kouga/Inuyasha, Kagome/Kouga, Kouga/Kagura, Naraku/Sesshoumaru (my utter crack OTP), Sesshoumaru/Sango, Inuyasha/Kikyo
Favourite characters: Kikyo (because she rocks and we need way more Kikyo love), Kouga, Kagura, Naraku, Sesshoumaru, Sango, Miroku, Shippo, Kaede, Rin, Jaken.
Inuyasha and Kagome are characters I love half the time with all my
heart and hate just as passionately the other half of the time.
Star Trek: Deep Space Nine - Dukat/Kira, Garak/Bashir, Jadzia/Worf. I'm
not much of a DS9 shipper anymore, actually. Nowadays I mostly love the
show for it's plot and character development and anti-war theme.
Favourite characters: Dukat, Damar, Ziyal, Kira, Shakaar, Vedek Bareil, Weyoun
(all of them), Jadzia, Ezri, Nog, Quark, Kai Winn, the Siskos, Odo and
so on and so on...
Favourite races: Cardassians, Bajorans and Veela!
I absolutely love the Dominion.
DS9 is my favourite Star Trek
series ever even though it's been years since I last watched it (blame
the evil German TV channels and the shamelessly high DVD prices.)
Naruto - Favourite pairings: Sasuke/Naruto, Sasuke/Hinata, Itachi/Sakura, Hinata/Kiba,
Hinata/Neji, Hinata/Shino, Shino/Sakura, Shino/Kiba, Deidara/Sakura, Deidara/Sasori, Ino/Sasuke, Deidara/Tobi.
Favourite characters: Kakashi, Tsunade, Kurenai, Temari, Kankuro,
Gaara, Kiba, Shino, Hinata, Deidara, Itachi, Hidan, Zetsu, Tobi,
Sasori, Neji, Naruto, Sakura, Ino, TenTen, Sasuke, Haku, Yashamaru (guess you didn't see that one coming, huh?)
Andromeda -Favourite pairings: Tyr/Beka, Harper/Tyr, Telemachus/Beka, Gaheris/Dylan
Favourite characters: Harper, Tyr, Gaheris Rhade (he's my favourite
character and he dies within the first five minutes of the pilot!
sniff I still maintain that Andromeda would have been a thousand
times better if Gaheris had lived and no one can ever change my mind), Telemachus Rhade, Beka, Charlemagne Bolivar, all three Andromeda personalities (though Rommie admittedly is my favourite of them), Trance, Sarah
(that's Dylan's old Commonwealth sweetheart for those who don't
remember her, the one who could have delivered us from the bimbo of the
week-evil).
Favourite race: Nietzscheans. Yes, the forearm-alien answer to
Star Trek's forehead-aliens. Sure, the Nietzscheans were often
portrayed in stupid ways, but they could have been great. Just think,
Andromeda started in the late 90s, a time when such topics as cloning
and genetic manipulation stopped being science-fiction and became hard
facts.
Lord of the Rings - Favourite pairings: Legolas/Aragorn, Legolas/Boromir, Legolas/Eowyn, Aragorn/Eowyn, Haldir/Eomer (movie), Gimli/Galadriel (it's just so cute), Legolas/Gimli
Favourite
characters: Eomer, Eowyn (I like both, but prefer the movie-Eowyn),
Theoden, Aragorn, Legolas, Arwen (book), Faramir, Boromir,
Denethor (book), Merry, Pippin, Sam, Frodo, Isildur, Elrond (book), Elladan, Elrohir, Glorfindel (book), Gimli, Erestor, Witch King of Angmar (movie), Saruman (movie) and many more. There isn't really a character I dislike.
Favourite race: They're all great, I can't decide.
Favourite realm: Rohan
Other favourites:
Zetsuai
Weiss Kreuz - Youji/Schuldig, Aya/Crawford, Nagi/Omi.
I prefer
Schwarz to Weiß. Sure, they're evil, but they're awesome and kick ass.
One of the reasons I immediately fell in love with Weiss Kreuz was
because it's finally a show with a German character who isn't ugly,
stupid and/or a nazi (though he admittedly is a villain and I'm glad
for it, goody-two-shoes Schuldig wouldn't be half as fun).
Alien/Predator
Halo - No pairings. I prefer the Covenant to the humans, though.
Babylon 5 - Neroon/Marcus, Zack/Lyta, Susan/Talia, Londo/G'Kar. Psi Corps, Centauri and Narn are my favourite people. That
I love Psi Corps so much is very meaningful because I hate humans in
science-fiction on principle (I'm so fing tired of all that
we-humans-are-so-superior-so-all-must-bow-down-to-our-greatness). Heck,
I can even stand the Earth Alliance!
Star Trek: Enterprise - T'Pol/Trip
Yu-Gi-Oh - Bakura/Ryou, Seto/Jounouchi
Gundam Wing - 1x2, 13x5
Angel/Buffy - Buffy/Spike, Angel/Cordelia, Spike/Xander,
Spike/Drusilla, Angel/ or Angelus/Darla, Angelus/Buffy, Angel/Willow, Angelus/Willow, Willow/Xander, Willow/Tara, Xander/Anya. I'm
weird like that, I love Buffy and Angel with about every other
character, but not with another - unless it's B/Aus. That doesn't means
that I hate B/A, though, it's just one of these pairings that don't
click with me.
Kindred: The Embraced - Cash/Sasha
Gravitation - Yuki/Shuichi, Tohma/Mika, Ryuichi/Tatsuha. I prefer Nittle Grasper to Bad Luck.
Yami no Matsuei
Yu Yu Hakusho
Eragon - Morzan/Selena, Murtagh/Nasuada. Also love Murtagh and Eragon friendship fics.
Farscape - Aeryn/John, Aeryn/Crais.
Stargate: SG-1 - Sam/Martouf/Lantash. Love the Tok'ra and the Goa'uld (especially Ba'al). I
like classic SG-1, with Tok'ra, Goa'uld and Tau'ri stumbling around
space with the naivety of children. Lost interest in the show when the
writers caught the typical sci-fi disease and made the earthers
all-powerful.
Stargate: Atlantis -
Favourite poem:
Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I've tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.
Fire and Ice - Robert Frost

Truth,
justice, honor...none of that's worth shit. What matters is people, and people
aren't honest or just or honorable. They're petty and they're angry and they're
afraid, and all anyone really wants, deep down, is to be wanted. And what's
truth to that-M.
