G'day, I go by the alias Bushtuckapenguin, previously Qantas, and I'm a 20 year old Aussie. I live in rural Queensland, a graduate of Bachelor of Wildlife Science, and currently working as an environmental consultant. I like animals, anthromorphs, anime and Other/Fan/Otaku made characters... and any fanfiction pertaining to them.
If you've found one of my reviews in your fandom, have an OC-fic and like some good ol' constructive crit (because a review is hard to find) please feel free to PM me and ask for one! Reviewer's help those who help themselves! I luuurve OC based fanfiction!
To my utter delight I've been made the Administrator of TONFA- The Original Naruto Fanfiction Archive! It's a diverse fanfiction archive dedicated to Naruto based fanfiction. It's currently undergoing modifications- categories and rules and such- but I'd love you to the ends of the earth if you'd join and add your fics and reviews to the archives. It has fantastic ammentities- you can add art and OC bios (much love for OC's!) challenges, and allows high rated fanfiction.
I'd love to see your new blood injected into the site. Come on... You have nothing to lose and may gain more reviews!
Because I have the attention span of small rodents, and a thumb in every pie I have a number of sites if you're looking for where I hang out and submit!
Aellos Aerie: My randomly added to and not complete site for my Otaku Senshi, Sailor Aello. There's a bit of art and bios but its currently being reworked.
Cosmic Club: And its Forums . On hiatus at the moment but perhaps some new blood will get it fizzing again!
Want to Get a Better Review?
These simple things mean all the world to readers!
-Reread and correct spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes. I don't mind a few silly ones, but a fiction littered with blatant, easy to pick up mistakes means you are just lazy and have no pride in your work
-Paragraphing. Don't know how to paragraph? That's okay so long as you make an attempt. Simply start a new line each time someone speaks
-Take your time. For each chapter make sure there is something worth reading, and don't just post because readers are clamouring for another chapter. Don't just have a meaningless conversation, or have them listen to your, the authors, favourite music. If a chapter or scene doesn't further a plot, it wastes time both reading and writing.
- Make an attempt at proper description and detail. Your goal as an author is to paint a picture in the readers head with words, and dialogue doesn't do that.
- Listen to other reviewers and see if they have anything to say. Why should others try to help you if you won't help yourself?
-Eyes narrow venomously -
Goddamn it, I am sick of it. What, you say? People who think I have nothing better to do that 'flame' their fiction. Why on earth would I sit down on a Friday afternoon, save a whole bunch of fanfictions onto a disk so I can read offline, do so. Read, spend 15 minutes composing a useful, tactful review for each chapter of a story then return to post them, just to be an arse?
That is what I do.
I love fanfiction. I like reading new adventures with fanmade characters best. I also like encouraging other writers to achieve their potential. I don't do it to recieve reviews on my on fanfiction. I don't do it to lord over other writers. I don't do it to feel smug and superior. I don't care if you thank me, although it is nice. I don't do it because I'm a mean, nasty person looking to take my anger out on new writers.
What I don't do is fawn fanfictions that have obvious spelling mistakes, lacks paragraphing or reads like a screenplay as if it's the best thing since sliced bread.
I
GIVE
CRITISISM
That is what the review button is for. It isn't so you can have an online conversation with your mates, its so other writers can REVIEW your writing, that is, say what they like and don't like about your fanfiction so you can improve. If they want, they will give ADVICE on just how you can improve.
I don't mind if you ask me to stop reviewing your fanfiction, so long as it is done politely and I will abide by your wishes. I will disappear quietly never to touch your fiction again. I won't bag it or you on the internet. I won't even be offended if you put in the first chapter 'please don't review, Tucka.' 'No worries at all, to each their own.
Why do I go through all this if I am a big meanie?
Because I care. I like to watch writers blossom, I like to see them with a sense of satisfaction in their own work, I like to see a fanfiction community grow. I give a damn if you succeed.
What doesn't help a community is this:
-I WUv you faNFiction! It is gr8!
-Please update!
-HAHAHA! YOu better PosT Soooon or my evil penguins of death with get you! MWAHAHAH!
If you want to help a writer, take an extra minute to say what exactly was so good about their fanfiction and why you liked it. Then they can tell that you actually took the time to read, that you actually care about the fiction.
