Author has written 2 stories for Sailor Moon, and Halo. RvB Society Fanfiction Archives My Manifesto I Boomerang Review! I Fight Review Lemmings! I Give Constructive Critisism! If I Want Reviews, I Give Reviews! You've probably clicked on this because you've either recieved one of my reviews or seen it on someone elses. The fact is as much as I love reading and reviewing fanfics, I don't have much time on my hands and am sick to death of spending a day reading and reviewing a twenty chapter fanfic only to have my arse handed to me because they don't like it. It gives me an embolism. So from now on I only review the first chapter of a fanfic and will not review the next one until the author has given me the go ahead. That way I don't offend you or spend time someone else could use. Ta mates, much obliged! Similarly, feel free to request a review! PM me and I'll give it a burl! I like OC-fics best! G'day, I go by the alias Bushtuckapenguin, and I'm a 23 year old Aussie. I live in rural Queensland, a graduate of Bachelor of Wildlife Science, and currently working as a labrat. I like animals, anthromorphs, anime and Other/Fan/Otaku made characters... and any fanfiction pertaining to them. My current obsession is all consuming, I haven't been this much of a squeeing fangirl since I was ten and discovered Pokemon. It's the Red vs Blue series, a deliriously hilarious machinema based on the Halo engine. It is fifteen kinds of awesome! And that's super awesome because only eight kinds had previously been discovered! I haven't played Halo years, can barely remember a thing about it but I haven't laughed so hard or had so much fun quoting in ages. It's one of those brilliant series where you can never decide who your favourite is. Sarge is definitely my favourite, but I'm currently in morning over Donut, the sweety. I'm waiting eagerly by my mailbox for my Recreation dvd, but Reconstruction is still my fave. It blew me away. Burnie, Matt and the RT gang got the mix of comedy, action and drama perfect! My heart still feels wobbly everytime I hear Tex's theme. Prior to the series I've never 'Shipped' a pairing in my entire internet life, but now I support Church/Tex. I don't reckon there's Grimmons, but I will believe it if a fanfic pulls it off! What does all this mean? Short-attention spanned Tucka will have a RvB fic heading this way! Red vs Blue: Remnant Want to Get a Better Review? -Reread and correct spelling, grammar and punctuation mistakes. I don't mind a few silly ones, but a fiction littered with blatant, easy to pick up mistakes means you are just lazy and have no pride in your work -Paragraphing. Don't know how to paragraph? That's okay so long as you make an attempt. Simply start a new line each time someone speaks. The other nuances will be perfected the more you read and write! -Take your time. For each chapter make sure there is something worth reading, and don't just post because readers are clamouring for another chapter. Don't just have a meaningless conversation, or have them listen to your, the authors, favourite music. If a chapter or scene doesn't further a plot, it wastes time both reading and writing. - Make an attempt at proper description and detail. Your goal as an author is to paint a picture in the readers head with actions, emotions and descriptions. Dialogue can't do it on his own. - Listen to other reviewers and see if they have anything to say. Why should others try to help you if you won't help yourself? If you get a review be sure to answer them! Let the reviewer know their review was appreciated and they'll come back again. -Ignore character submissions. These people who submit their characters to your fics are leeches and the worst kind of reviewer. They aren't reading cos they like the story, they don't care about it and will pounce on you the moment you don't do exactly what you want with their character. They disgust me and they'll only pull your story down. -Eyes narrow venomously - A well rounded critique is often the most rewarding gift a reader can give . Please use this golden opportunity to offer a well deserved praise and/or tips for improvement. -Points and growls- Goddamn it, I am sick of it. What, you say? People who think I have nothing better to do that 'flame' their fiction. Why on earth would I sit down on a Friday afternoon, save a whole bunch of fanfictions onto a disk so I can read offline, do so. Read, spend 15 minutes composing a useful, tactful review for each chapter of a story then return to post them, just to be an arse? That is what I do. I love fanfiction. I like reading new adventures with fanmade characters best. I also like encouraging other writers to achieve their potential. I don't do it to recieve reviews on my on fanfiction. I don't do it to lord over other writers. I don't do it to feel smug and superior. I don't care if you thank me, although it is nice. I don't do it because I'm a mean, nasty person looking to take my anger out on new writers. What I don't do is fawn fanfictions that have obvious spelling mistakes, lacks paragraphing or reads like a screenplay as if it's the best thing since sliced bread. I That is what the review button is for. It isn't so you can have an online conversation with your mates, its so other writers can REVIEW your writing, that is, say what they like and don't like about your fanfiction so you can improve. If they want, they will give ADVICE on just how you can improve. I don't mind if you ask me to stop reviewing your fanfiction, so long as it is done politely and I will abide by your wishes. I will disappear quietly never to touch your fiction again. I won't bag it or you on the internet. Why do I go through all this if I am a big meanie? Because I care. I like to watch writers blossom, I like to see them with a sense of satisfaction in their own work, I like to see a fanfiction community grow. I give a damn if you succeed. What doesn't help a community is this: -I WUv you faNFiction! It is gr8! There's nothing I hate more than review lemmings, iand that includes flamers. You dumb yourself down, you dumb the story down and you dumb the author down. If you want to help a writer take an extra minute to say what exactly was so good about their fanfiction and why you liked it. More importantly tell them what you didn't like so they can improve on it next time. That's what we're all striving for, to make each chapter better than our last. | |||||||||
