Some very random facts on LotR:

The screams of the Nazgul were made by Fran Walsh.

The Dead Marshes were filmed in parking lots.

When Frodo, Sam, and Gollum were in Emyn Muil, the rocks they climbed on were made out of foam.

When Peter Jackson and Co. were filming the scene in TTT where the Rohan village was burning, the winds shifted, and the fire started blowing towards the camera crew. The crew fled, but there was still footage. The stage set of the village burned down entirely.

The hill that represented Edoras in TTT was called Mt. Sunday.

Sir Ian McKellen's favorite LotR souvenir was the keys to Bag End.

John Rhys-Davies gave his voice to Treebeard.

Alan Lee, one of the artists for LotR, has a chipped front tooth.

In the scene of TTT where Aragorn returns from the "dead" and tells Theoden about the tens of thousands of Orcs, that was an inside joke between Viggo Mortensen and Bernard Hill. Viggo said that people would make tens of thousands of little Aragorn and Theoden action figures.

In the extended edition of TTT, the liquid forced down Merry's throat is made out of corn syrup and grape juice.

The Elessar is a jewel that was supposed to represent sunshine shining through trees.

The Ring of Barahir has two serpents, one devouring, one crowned in golden flowers.

Saruman had originally taken the Star of Elendil from the River Anduin.

Gollum lived by the River Anduin.

Hugo Weaving plays Agent Smith in The Matrix.

When the crew of LotR was making Fangorn Forest, they actually went to an orchard, and bought all of the leaves. They then stripped the trees of their leaves, and used those leaves for their trees.
