Greetings adoring fans, devoted readers, and random passerbys! Though I have no idea how you made it to my humble profile, I suppose I should tell you a bit about myself. I live in a very big, very cold country called Canada; it's kind of obscure and with the United States right next door, it's a bit like sleeping next to an elephant, but it's home. I've been writing fiction for about five years now and I'm striving to become better every day, so your constructive criticism on my work is very much welcome and very much appreciated, even if I'm not able to respond to it. Due to a very... interesting set of circumstances, I am only able to reply to reviews and PMs and review other people's works on Tuesdays. Therefore, if I don't get back to you for a week, it has nothing to do with you as a person, I assure you.

On my fanfics - notes, details, and ramblings

Title: The Displaced
Fandom(s): Star Trek 2009, Firefly
Genres: Drama, Hurt/Comfort, Friendship, Sci-Fi
Warnings: Mild blood, angst, mild violence, themes relating to mental illness, multidimensional confusion, possible cross-fandom pairings, drama, and more drama. Currently rated K+; rating may go up later on.
Summary: After receiving a distress signal, the Enterprise picks up a strange, disturbed passenger, and the crew is forced to figure out how to cope with her erratic - and occasionally violent - behaviour. When Spock is assigned to the task of looking after her, besides having to figure out where she comes from and how to get her back there, he is faced with the innate challenges of being a half-Vulcan while having to care for someone who is emotionally unstable. Unbeknownst to Spock, this new passenger may test him in ways he has yet to foresee. Will River Tam ever go home?
Author's notes: Personally, I have a natural aversion to crossovers, because they are one of those things that are absolutely guaranteed to mangle the canon of both fandoms if not done well - but, when I started playing with the idea of putting Spock and River together (which was born out of what I believe is every fanfic writer's natural desire to put their favourite characters in a room together and see what happens) I began to realize that it could actually be workable. JJ Abram's Trek has already used the idea of multiple timelines as a major plot device, and classic Trek also acknowledges the existence of multiple realities (see the Mirror, Mirror episode of TOS.) Certainly River wouldn't be opposed to the concept of the Multiverse. So, before I could talk myself out of it, I started writing this. "The Displaced" is my first attempt at a full-length fanfic in a long while, and I have to say I've found the positive response to be very rewarding.
Update Note!: To any of my readers (if you guys are still out there) - yes, I'm still interested in this fic! Yes, there will be an update one of these days! It's just been a while since I've watched Star Trek 09, so I'm waiting for the DVD to come out so I can characterize Spock right again. Sorry, guys! HUGE thank-yous to everyone for reading this fic, "The Displaced" is up to about 6,000 views now!
Teaser Quotes:

Chapter 2:
"...but if you'd been in the same room with her for—I dunno, thirty seconds?—you'd know what I mean when I use the word 'trainwreck'. This guy knows what I'm talking about," Kirk added suddenly, straightening in his chair as Lieutenant Sulu crossed his line of vision. "Hey, Sulu!"

"Yes, sir?"

"You saw our... charming new arrival last night, right Lieutenant?" Kirk inquired.

"Yes, sir."

"How did that go for you, Sulu?"

Sulu paused, biting his lip thoughtfully. "I believe she threatened to kill me with her brain."

Chapter 4:
"You can try to fix me all you want, it's not going to work."

"This is why it is customary in most cultures to wear footwear."

Chapter 5:
"Your ears are pointed."

Forthcoming:
-"It's hard when you can't go home."

"You loved her. I can see. The kind of love that grows in silence. The kind of love that chokes. You never could get the words out and now they're hurting you..."
