So you want to know...
Will Shadow's Adventure ever be finished?
I can understand the frustration of following a story that is abruptly ended. One of my favorite authors, Douglas Adams, died before he finished one of this books (however I think that him dying was much sadder than that his book wasn't completed!). A TV show I used to watch was abruptly canceled after a cliffhanger involving my favorite character. One of my favorite pieces of fan fiction ended abruptly when the author abandoned it for unknown reasons. I don't want to leave ShAd here rotting without at least an explanation.
You might be happy to know that the outline for the rest of Shadow's Adventure has already been written -- it has been waiting, dormant, for years me to fill in all of it's
"flesh". The actual ending has been written out in full, but it will of course be edited as the middle "skeleton" of the story is filled out. This is one of the reasons it has been hard for me to finish it; I already know where the story is going, so it's not as exciting to write (I think...).
So the answer is, yes, ShAd will probably be finished, but by the time it is, it's likely you won't be much of a Sonic fan anymore, or this site won't exist. This site already has a lot more ads than when I first came here, and if it gets to be too much I will take my story down and put it on my own server.
This story was last touched in the year 2004 -- as of this writing it's the year 2008. Back when I started I was still in high school. I had summers off and quite a bit of time to sit around writing. It was also around the time when the game Sonic Adventure 2 was still fairly new and I was still enthusiastic about the Sonic series. I was taking Shadow's Adventure very seriously;
I would do my best to get inside the heads of each of the
characters. It would take hours for me to get into a state where I could write something that satisfied my own quality standards.
School, a social life, and work ultimately got in the way, and increasingly I don't have the time to spend stretches of four to six hours writing something that can't even be published. Also, a lot has happened in four years, and I don't feel much of a connection to the story anymore. I feel that I wouldn't be able to write anything of quality until I can feel that connection again.
I've been extremely disappointed with all the Sonic games since SA2B, so that hasn't helped my motivation either. I've been with Sonic since the very first Genesis game, and Sega, in my humble opinion, is really making an arse of themselves out there. I don't even own the Shadow game.
I do read all the reviews as they trickle in, by the way, and thank you for those. =)
