T M M M in a nutshell: I am a lurker most of the time, review not nearly as often as I should, and only update on the rare occasions that I feel like writing. And sometimes not even then. So, all and all, I am a Bad Person. T M M M extended remix (with OTP mini-rant Bonus Track!): I'm a twenty-two year old female who started reading fanfiction sometime in the mid-late '90s. The first time I ever really sat down and worked a fic was on September 12, 2001. It was a pretty cheesy digimon fic that is still floating around on this site unfinished. Since then, I have not made much writing progress; I tend to write very short oneshots or drabbles. Because I never know when I'm going to completely lose interest and abandon a fic, I often end up posting the general idea of a fic instead of a polished final product. This is a terrible habit, but things always seem much better in my head than they come out on paper! I am a complete fandom whore, having followed at least 40 different fandoms. I mostly read anime based fiction, along with the ever pervasive Harry Potter fiction. Some fandoms I find myself coming back to again and again, while others I get really into for while then totally lose interest. I also will admit to watching/reading things simply as a vehicle for fanfiction. For example, I find the Harry Potter fandom at least twice as interesting as the original books. Sad but true. I'm a reformed rabid yaoi fangirl, and while I still enjoy it on occasion, real-life and growing up has softened me a great deal towards het. Gay sex can be hot, but ultimately (and unsurprisingly, considering my gender) I can't really relate to it the way I can to het sex (or to femmeslash not written by teenage fanboys). In my opinion, this is pretty common for young fangirls, so those of you who can't stand the squeals of "OMG, BOYSECKS ITS TEH HAWTNESS!!1!!111", take comfort in the fact that once these girls have had time to experience sex outside of possibly anatomically correct lemons they will probably calm down (unless the sex is really, really bad, and they take refuge in the idealization of m/m relationships. So guys who hate yaoi, be good to the virgins! That was a joke. Mostly). As for pairings, I'm open to most things and generally don't have a set "OTP". Which isn't to say I don't have preferences and particular interests, just that they aren't set in stone. I like slash, but I'm also fond of weird and/or obscure couples that can be slash or het. I tend to be bored by canon couples in fanfiction; if I wanted canon, I'd read the book/watch the show/etc. For me, fanfiction is about exploring the possibilities, while convincing the reader these possibilities are plausible. I read OTP as One True Pairing, meaning a fan will only support Character A with Character B. This is different from having a favorite pairing, where a fan might say that while Character A/Character B is their favorite, they also like Character A with Character C, etc. Of course, many fans these days use OTP to signify a strong (but not immovable) preference for a certain pairing, and I'll admit to using it myself in a humorous fashion, but in its purest form OTP has an "all or nothing" mindset that I personally find rather childish. I don't mind the idea that two people are meant only for each other within the context of a fic, in fact it can be quite romantic. But when you stretch it fandom-wide to these two people are meant only for each other regardless of the circumstances... Well, it's sort of creepy. And a bit depressing, really. I mean, what if things go wrong? You can't be happy with them, but you can't be happy with anyone else? Not cool, I say. Comments? Questions? Want to pick a fight? Commiserate?
