Author has written 4 stories for West Wing, Sound of Music, Cats, and Titanic. Welcome to my profile! It’s long because I have no life and I never know when to shut up. I’ll pause here in case any of you want to dance for joy, applaud or, alternately, run screaming from the room. ~ pauses~ Okay, for those of you still here, read on...IF YOU DARE (MUAHAHAHAHAH...HAH...ha?) What's New! (as of Dec. 2/09) - Chapter Twenty of Fortune's Winds is now up. Please read and enjoy! Icon Ok, so I broke my own rule about fandom based avatars because I couldn't resist the cuteness of Kate and Jim. BEHOLD THE CUTENESS. On Me - I am a twenty-something Canadian girl who generally goes by Meg. I used to be all over the place on the Interwebz, like Livejournal and such. But that was before school ate my soul. Now I'm just here. - Speaking of school, I don’t do that anymore, lol. Actually I just graduated from my final year of college this past spring. I studied lots of things, including English and Fine Arts, but my actual BA is in Animation, which is to say cartooning. It sounds a lot cooler than it is, trust me. Mostly it just meant no sleep and a fairly continuous soul maiming. But that might not have been for everyone. That might have only been for me. - I am a hardcore bibliophile who totally wanders around libraries and bookstores when I need to zen out. That said, I am not terribly versed in the classics, which is weird given how much I read. I consider this a character flaw that I’m trying to fix. - The absolute Love of My Life is musical theatre. Seriously, if musicals vanished from the earth I would probably just curl up and die. I do community theatre (usually about two shows a year) and if someone were to come up to me tomorrow and be like “Hi, d’you want to drop everything in your entire life, move to New York and star on Broadway?” I’d be like “HOW FAST CAN I SIGN UP?” - Currently I’m a production of A Chorus Line, playing Maggie. Unfortunately, said production is NOT on Broadway. I just pretend it is in my head. - I’m kind of insane. In my defense, I do know that. - Despite how all this makes me sound, I am actually very boring. Trust me. I am also a huge dork, but some people find that endearing. On Writing - I am not particularly prolific, which is not because I lack ideas, but because I have too many ideas and so need to focus on one thing at a time, or I never get anything done. Plus, I'm anal retentive and do a bajillion and five drafts of everything so it take a REALLY LOOOOOONG TIME for me to get anything to the point where I'm happy enough to post it. I’ve been writing fanfic since I was about ten. It’s a really good thing that FFN didn’t exist back then because…yikes. I’m better now. At least, I like to think I’m better now. - I write about musicals a lot. In fact, it’s highly likely that I’ll never write anything not about a musical ever again. But don’t hold me to that. My brain is a fickle, fickle place. On Reviewing - I won’t try and deny it: I am one of those authors whose biggest pet peeve is favs/alerts that don’t come with a review. It takes literally 2-5 minutes to press the button and leave a quick hello. I know you're there lurkers!! I DON’T BITE I SWEAR! Unless you give me reason to. - Pet peeve number two is when I leave someone a review and the author doesn't reply. Because that's just rude. That's like someone telling you that they like your dress and just walking by instead of saying thanks. I will stop reviewing a story/author that doesn't reply to comments. If you're going to be that impolite, why should I bother being nice? - Now I love reviews of all shapes and sizes – I mean straight up compliments are nice, I’m not gonna lie – but nothing beats a good, thought out review detailing pros and cons. And yes, pointing out specific things that are GOOD is just as helpful as pointing out things that could be improved. A thorough review doesn't mean that you have to rip the fic to shreds. Just remember: no one can improve without feedback! - Speaking of which, if I leave you a piece of Concrit, it’s because I’m trying to help, not because I’m trying to be mean. So if you can’t take a bit of advice please spare me the rant, and take your fic down because if you can't handle constructive criticism, you have no business posting on a public site. -DO NOT troll for reviews or beg for them in your author’s note if you want me to review your story. It will have PRECISELY the opposite affect. - I review as much as possible. I especially try to return the favour if someone reviews one of my fics. But let's face it - sometimes what you write isn't going to be my cup of tea, so this isn't a personal rule that I can always follow. If I read your story and don’t review, I have a reason. Usually it’s to avoid hurting your feelings. On Fandoms - I read from tons of fandoms, not just the one’s I’ve written for. There are far, far, far, FAR too many to name, but at the moment I’m on quite a Titanic, West Side Story and Hunger Games kick. - As for the one’s I’ve written for, here are some thing you might like to know (or not, but here they are anyway): Titanic – New fandom alert! Well, not really, because I’ve been a massive-ass Titanic geek for pretty much as long as I’ve been alive. And by that I mean the historical event, not the movie. Speaking of the movie, I really do love it. No, I wasn’t particularly fussed over the love story, but everything else I thought was awesome. Tommy is my favourite character hands down. This is one of the few fandoms I partake in where I find I actually prefer stories with OC's MORE than stories with canon characters (provided, of course that the OC isn't a flaming Sue). This probably stems from the fact that I feel like I'll probably barf if I have to read another "Jack Lives" fic ever again. While I'm positive that there are some brilliant examples of these, I'm just, really, really, really bored with that particular plot line. As for the musical version of Titanic, words really can’t express how much I love it and the characters who populate it. There's not one character in that show that I couldn't find material for a fic from. The whole show is really a thrillingly beautiful piece of theatre. Cats – Cats is such a weird little fandom. I like writing it simply because, while there are of course theories/pairings/etc. more popular than others, there is no real set canon. I love all the characters, but my favourites are Demeter, Munkustrap, Bombalurina, Mungojerrie, Rumpleteazer, Electra and Jemima. I tend to favour the most popular pairings, so nothing exciting there. Also, I’ve only ever seen the video, so that’s the cast I go by. Also, it bears mentioning that I write the cats as cats, but, like, slightly anthropomorphic. I closest example I can give is something akin to the Aristocats, or the rats in The Secret of Nimh. So they can do human stuff like smile, dance, give hugs and read a book but they aren't...like...people. If that makes even the slightest amount of sense. Sound of Music – My interest in this fandom rests entirely in backstory. Really, I love Maria and all, but what really interests me is what happened before she showed up. My favourite character is Liesl and pretty much everything I write focuses pretty heavily on her. I do, however, enjoy all the children, especially Brigitta. I admit a major fondness for Liesl/Rolf. I’ve seen uncountable productions of SoM from professional live, to the movie, and everything in between so my characterisations are vaguely hybrid-like. For example, the Captain tends to be mostly Christopher Plummer, but Brigitta is far more Tracy Alison Walsh (who played her in the Broadway Revival). Things to keep in mind in case anyone seems off. West Wing – This was my first really active fandom, but I hardly ever read stuff from it any more. That said, I still love me some good Josh/Donna and will occasionally look up a fic or two for old time’s sake. Plus, this was the first fnadom I ever wrote anything decent for so it holds a special place in my heart. I am constantly amazed that, while Burdens is, like, two hundred years old and no longer the best example of my writing skills, it still gets an inordinate amount of hits and comments, especially when you consider that the show's been off the air for three years or so now. So TWW fans, you guys rock! And are really tenacious about finding old fics, lol. On Pairings - The following are pairings that I love, which isn't to say that I won't read others, just that these are my favs. Kate/ Jim (Titanic, musical) Charles/Caroline (Titanic, musical) Fabrizio/Helga (Titanic, movie) Demeter/Munkustrap (Cats) Bombalurina/Rum Tum Tugger (Cats) Liesl/Rolf (SoM) Josh/Donna (West Wing) CJ/Toby (West Wing) CJ/Danny (West Wing) Anybodys/A-Rab (West Side Story) Ice/Velma (West Side Story) Riff/Graziella (West Side Story) Baby John/Minnie (West Side Story) Amber/Corny (Hairspray) Penny/Seaweed (Hairspray) Katniss/Peeta (Hunger Games) Finnick/Annie (Hunger Games) Madge/Gale (Hunger Games) Vanessa/Unsnavi (In the Heights) On Randomness that Doesn’t Fit Elsewhere - I don’t usually do fandom-based avatars ‘cause I’m weird. So I tend to pick random pretty images for my avvie. I seem to have decided that I’m going to be the girl on FF.net constantly represented by interesting socks. Like the vast majority of the things that happen in my brain, I have no explanation for this. - I make my own avatars unless otherwise indicated, because icon-making is a favourite time-waster of mine. - I don’t understand why there are so many angsty bits of bad poetry kicking around this site. And I don’t mean poetry based on a fandom – I mean just flat out “My boyfriend dumped me so I wrote this to express my feelings of woe” crappy, emo, crap. It’s freaking weird man. - Which isn't to say that I don't like poetry - I do - it's just that I like GOOD poetry. - I love Harry Potter and loathe Twilight with every fibre of my being. Not sure if these things are related but there you go. But seriously, Twilight is one of the single most demeaning to women series I've ever had the misfortune of reading. Not mention being just plain BAD. And yes, I DID try to read it. I gave up in disgust about two chapters into Eclipse. - I get asked about my fav musicals a lot, so I shall list them here. Note that this list is subject to change, lol: Les Mis, Miss Saigon, Titanic, Ragtime, Sound of Music, A Chorus Line, Shrek: the Musical, Sweeny Todd, Into the Woods, Beauty and the Beast, In the Heights, A Man of No Importance, Cats, Next to Normal, Spring Awakening, Lone Star Love, Hairspray, Little Women, West Side Story, title of show and Wicked. (yes this is a really big list. My apologies. For the record, only those first four have never budged from the list.) - I have a ridiculously huge crush on Clarke Thorell. Like, it's just plain silly how huge it is. And honestly, if anyone reading this even knows who Clarke IS, than you have to message me because we should be friends ;) - I thought I had more randomness to talk about when I added this randomness section, but I don’t, so I’ll just do an interpretive dance instead ~does a dance~ And now, this profile is officially ginormous, so I’ll just shut up. Hope you are all feeling greatly enlightened or something equally spectacular. ~toddles away into the sunset~ | |||||||||
