Eliot j_merc fanfiction-wise: Preferences: In regards to reading, I tend to lean most towards family fluff and dark fics. If they include both, then that's the fic for me. In regards to writing, well, you can see for yourself, but I tend to dip in and out of things. Pet hates: Here's one, not really to do with Fanfiction, but profiles. I hate it when people's profiles are filled with so much crap that has nothing to do with fanfiction what-so-ever, or even much to do with the writer, that you have to scroll down for two minutes just to see if they have any stories, and in some cases they don't have any. People who write more in their profile then in their entries. If it has something to do with fanfiction, then fine, otherwise please just keep it to your blog. :spots one reading and grins nervously: Hello there. :wave: I'm not having a go at you; in fact I'm sure you're all lovely people, but please, next time just think 'Do I need to put the lyrics to my favourite songs in my profile' or 'Do I really have put down every single anime I watched that I like' (favourite is not code for just like), or 'do I have to copy and paste something into my own profile because it seems deep and meaningful'. I accept that you have a right to put whatever you like in you're profile, but please, put some info on you and your fics. I'm just saying; there's a purpose for a blog and there's a purpose for your FANFICTION.net profile page. Random Japanese in fanfics. Sorry, I really hate this. I've seen different languages used well in fanfiction, when full sentences are used to show a change in language, rather then 'squeeee, I know what arigatou mean 'cause I've seen Naruto subbed. This will so make my fanfic sound more Japanese,' sorry it doesn't. If anything it disrupts the flow by drawing attention to the fact that it isn't Japanese. I always go on the assumption that characters living in Japan (or Middle-Earth, or wherever they live) are speaking their native tongue, and the fact that it's written in English is merely a translation, so to speak, as most can't read or write Japanese. So why put in a random word in Japanese in an English sentence? Does it mean that that word is said in English (which wouldn't actually be too far fetched)? To be honest, it just looks a little silly. Like an anime theme tune with random English words stuck in every now and then. That and the fact that often the words are used wrong anyway. A favourite fanfiction quote: "Squall was eating lunch in the Cafeteria at the time. Martine just barged right up to his table and gave him the order, hundreds of students around him. So Squall calmly finished his sandwich, stood up, and did the verbal equivalent of tearing Martine's nuts off." I made a promise (in my favourites) by InstigateInsanity Fanfics to come (maybe) (These are all pre-beta read, so apologizes for spelling and grammar mistakes) Final Fantasy VIII - Blue Caravan: I wanted to write something in which Squall and Laguna weren't related by blood and it grew. While returning from patrol, Laguna stumbles across a child who was lost in more than one way. “So, what’s your name?” The child pulled the blanket tighter around him, avoiding eye contact. “Squall.” “Interesting name. How did you come to be out here alone? It’s dangerous times for a kid, like yourself, to be out on their own.” The child didn’t answer, keeping his eyes downcast. “Did you run away?” Still, the silence remained. “I don’t care if you did. I won’t take you back if you don’t want to go. I won’t make you go anywhere you don’t want to?” The boy may have relaxed a little, but no answer passed his lips. Never mind, he couldn’t make the boy talk and he had no intention of trying. Also a big thanks to all my current betas: Zarrah (CV, MoH and most of my one shots), Just Bob (BBB, DP, LG, P&P, GoS, TtR, A and various oneshots) and InstigateInsanity (TL). I guess it's quite a few, but I do have quite a few fics on the go at the moment and it was unfair to give them all to my two original betas, who have lives of thier own to deal with. Besides, II has better knowledge of the fandom I'm currently writing in, and I feel they are better suited to each fic.
