I've been away far too long. Finals. And the amount of Marius/Cosette fluff doesn't really act as an incentive, bleurgh!
I have a hugely research intensive plot bunny, should anyone want it. Y'know all those "Les mis in the 20th century" fics? Well, I got bored at work the other night and started thinking about how well it would translate into India during partition/the last days of the Raj. I've briefly thought about how this might work in terms of character, timing etc but the huge amounts of necessary reseach is most off-putting. If anyone else wants to go on a research kick -or actually knows anything about the subject anyway - then feel free to adopt the rabbit :-)
"And so Jean Valjean could die knowing that he had driven Javert to suicide and had significantly changed France by being an all round nice guy"
(Forbidden Broadway, Les Misérables synopsis)
Hhhmmm, now when you look at it that way . . . .
Well, I'm Sophia. Third year English Lit student, sometime bar nazgul and literary agent's assistant, and artistic Jack-of-all-trades (acting, writing, directing). Despite the pen name I am, in fact, not Argentinian at all. I am an anglo-australian national living in a parrallel universe much like this one but for the fact that in my world people sing a lot more, Javert was the hero of Les Miserables and it rains chocolate muffins.
My least favourite characters in all literature are Marius Pontmercy and Lucien de Rubempré. And, because I think peoples' dislikes are often more revealing that their likes, I would also like to take this opportunity to complain about the Iraq war, the hunting debate and people who speed up rather than slowing down when they drive past someone on a horse (Do you want 600lbs of frightened equine on your dashboard? Well SLOW DOWN)
As you can tell from these complaints, I'm a real student radical "sarcastic eye roll"
"We're neither pure, nor wise nor good
We'll do the best we know
We'll build a house and chop our wood
And make our garden grow
And make our garden grow" (final words of Bernsteins musical version of 'Candide')
I'm currently playing with different interpretations of Javert in my fics. I'd love it if people could let me know what they like and what they don't about how I write him, what background I give etc so I can settle on one coherent interpretation. Cheers, me dears!
Random amusing quote: "There was a time when I was young and gay . . but straight" - Mel Brooks, The Producers (stage version)
I've recently acquired an account at FictionPress so if you're really bored and masochistic you could check out my stuff there - not that there's very much of it. I publish under the name of ViveLaBagatelle
Speaking of which, that's also my livejournal account (also newish); http://www.livejournal.com/users/vivelabagatelle
But you'd have to be really truly, madly, deeply bored to look at that, I surmise
There are some great advertising jingles about at the moment. Personal favourites being
1) "Can hate be good? Can hate be great?"
2) "Shepards Pie! Shepards Pie! You're gonna burn in hell tonight!"
The purge continues (Gah! It's more fun than a Cabinet reshuffle!)
1) Added a couple of things to Les Amuse Bouches
2) over the wall just go slashier (and longer, but that's by the by)
3) Have just given my new Javert fic (another) new title - it's become a bit of a mania!
I'm quite disturbed by the fact that I'm seriously considering writing a pro-Marius fic. Does anyone know a good analyst?
