Who we are

July 09 update - Evan and I passed our Kendo Shodan examination - Kendo no shiken wa yokatta desu yo! We are also students of the Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu style of Iaido or the art of drawing the katana, having earned a Shodan rank in March.

Thus far, we have learned the Shoden waza - Mae through Nukiuchi; Batto Juttsu Kihon waza - Jyuntoh Sono Ichi through Zantotsutoh; and the Seitei Iai waza - Morotezuki, Sanpogiri, and Ganmenate

We have also learned the Chuden Tatehiza - Yokogumo through Makko along with assorted Muso Shinden Ryu waza; Zen Iren Tohoh - Maegiri, Zengogiri, Kiriage, Shihogiri, and Kissakigaeshi; and Okuiai - Zenteki Gyakutoh through Nukiuchi.

Most recently, we learned the Okuden Tachiwaza - Yukitzure through Itomagoi Sono San and Suwariwaza - Kasumi through Torabashiri.

We are looking forward to a possible Nidan exam in Iaido later this year and a Nidan exam in Kendo next July.

I thank Evan for that glorious legal shpiel.

As we are learning in Kendo and Iaido, everything begins and end with 'rei' (respect).

We also like to review and will be respectful and helpful. We're not afraid to leave concrit if we see any issues. We readily and gladly accept concrit and suggestions and are always open to useful dialog. However, if someone is just going to be a knucklehead and demonstrate hypocrisy or pathology, we respectfully suggest that they skeedadle and annoy someone else or lighten up and not take this so seriously. We honor all requests to read and review...we are slow, however.

Ultimately, this is all in fun and is just a hobby of ours.

Evan and Alice's Favorite Games - Chess, KOTOR I & II, Medieval Total War, War of the Ring

Favorite Shows/Movies - CSI, 24, Rome, Battlestar Galactica, Star Trek, LOTR, Star Wars, Kill Bill,

Evan's Favorite Sports - run/swim/bike, mountain bike, karate, SCUBA (divemaster), Kendo and Iaido with Alice. Recent purchase of a Daisho (katana/wakizashi) that was hand forged and folded numerous times. The Shinken (must have more than 10 folds/1024 layers of steel to be a Shinken) is very sharp and the Koshirae (fittings) are magnificent.

Alice's Favorite sports - Fencing (foil - C/epee - C/sabre - B), Aikido (ni kyu), swimming, running, bicycling (finished my first tinman triathlon 2/07), pistol shooting (some IPSC, bullseye, action pistol - Glocks 17, 19, 21, 22, 23, Sig Sauer P226, 228, H&K USP, Colt/Kimber/Springfield M1911A), SCUBA (got my divemaster last year), horseback riding...now, Kendo (Shodan), Iaido (Shodan - the beginning of the true journey) - all fingers are still attached.

Here's a summary of our schtuff -

Knights of the Old Republic

Book I - Hopes of the Republic -Updated as of NOV 06- Takes the story from the Endar Spire to a galactic battle. I wanted to do something other than the zap um turret game and to show a realistic setting for the wider war. We'll look at Dantooine and try and get a sense of the training involved in becoming a Jedi. I wanted to do a bit more with the lightsabers and give them the same reverence that the samurai gives the katana. I decided to have the main character a bit goody goody at this point as I think it will make her slide into darkness more interesting. It's a slow progression and her dark side does not really begin to show until Book II. Based on the game, I wanted to show why: Revan was a military genius and conqueror; Carth was a war hero; Bastila initially dislikes the PC; and Saul was once trusted.

Book II - Shadows and Dust - Updated - Takes the story from Tatooine to Kashyyyk. I wrote a number of flashbacks that look at the characters and provide background. We see more of how Revan defeated the Mandalorians and I hope it gives a sense of Revan's prowess in military matters. A fleet requires certain things to be victorious. We also look behind the scenes of Wookiee culture and Canderous begins to realize age is catching up to him and it changes how he sees things. A dude I met, who was in the SF community told me his body was done by his mid thirties. Many thanks to BaM for the beta.

Book III - Terrible Swift Sword - Updated - Looks at Manaan and takes an intelligence storyline, which I received a lot of help writing thisstory from people knowledgeable in that area -but it's purely fictional. The romance plot begins to come to fruition. I always thought that Manaan had sort of a East Berlin sort of feel and I wanted to create sort of a spy vs spy atmosphere.

Book IV - The Dark Night of the Soul - Updated - Takes us into the bowels of the Leviathan, Malak's flagship. Carth has his encounter with destiny and the foundations of his soul are rocked to the core. Bastila too, must finally face her demons and the fate of the Republic hangs on her actions. We then go to Korriban, where Aerin discovers a mentor and her power is increased, but at what cost? A land battle determines the fate of the team and new members join.

Book V - Dark Paradise - The unknown planet. The team is stranded with the Republic Fleet fast approaching. Then, Revan leads the team to the Star Forge to confront her destiny - COMPLETE! We thought it was pretty dark.

Paradise Reborn - An alternate ending to the story. I'm a believer in the idea that our actions, the actions of those around us, and quirks of fate create different realities. What if I had married someone else...what if I had chosen a different career...what if a bullet that struck a beam inches from my head had been aimed differently? It's much more upbeat and ties in loosely with KOTOT II. It takes the characters 65 years past the Star Forge. With that, our KOTOR theme is COMPLETE. To be honest, this is the first time I actually was motivated to finish a story.

Guduts of the Old Republic - Parody written in Hawaiian 'Pidgen English'. Based on KOTOR I and II. Done in sort of a 'Grease' theme.

Identity Thieves of the Old Republic - Familiar characters get ripped off.

Burned by the Fires of a Galaxy Aflame - This is a collaborative story with Son Kenshin. It looks at vignettes in the KoTOR saga from a male POV with a host of entirely new characters making appearances. It's suppose to be written in an anime/manga style. Currently being written by Candace.

Fortune Favors the Bold - Completed - Entirely an action/war story about the destruction of Malachor V, using multiple POV's and no 'main character'. It sort of emulates a Tom Clancy/'Killer Angels' style.

Instruments of Darkness - Completed - Alternate DS ending inspired by and dedicated to Padawan Mage. Carth Onasi has one final confrontation with a DS Revan.

Lord of the Rings - my true fictional love

The Lost Kingdom of Cardolan - LOTR fiction based on the early Third Age during the time of the Dunedain on Middle Earth. The Kingdom of Arnor is fractured, leaving three sister nations, who fall to squabbling until the arrival of the Witch King of Angmar. Focuses on Aragorn's ancestors, the King of Arthedain and the Princess of Cardolan. It focuses on a small group, a soldier, a healer, and a mercenary, who survive the destruction of Cardolan's army at the hands of the Witch King. In the aftermath, Cardolan stands on the brink of civil war as factions vie for power.

Demon Night - LOTR fiction and prequel to Lost Kingdom. Focuses on the Witch King's offensive and near destruction of Rivendell and the Dunedain Kingdoms. The story is from the point of view of a mage for the Witch King, a mercenary from Rhudaur, and a merchant.

The Court of Ardor - LOTR fiction based on the events of the First Age/Silmarillion. Morgoth deceives many of the Eldar and recruits them in a terrible quest to destroy the Sun and Moon, casting Middle Earth in darkness. To accomplish his heinous task, he must recover Feanor's jewels that were devoured by the demon, Ungoliant. The story is from the point of view of the exiled Noldor and the fallen elves in Morgoth's service as well as a Balrog.

CSI -

A Double Edged Sword - On hiatus - CSI fic that takes Gil Grissom to Hawaii for a conference, where he gets drawn into a homicide investigation. A man meets a juvenile female over theInternet and aggressively hooks up with her. The liaison ends in a homicide and ID Techs from the lab as well as Gil and Sara Sidle, must respond to process the crime scene. WARNING: mature issues are present in the story, but not depicted graphically. We will have maggots though.

Miscellaneous -

Fur Elise - This is a historical fic from the perspective of a Luftwaffe pilot on the eve of D-Day. He reflects on the war and his love, Elise. This is mostly an emotional piece with some dogfighting action in a Bf-109G. Named for the Beethoven piano piece. COMPLETED.

24 -

A New Beginning - On hiatus - Starts where Season 4 left off. Jack Bauer is in hiding and a new agent must keep him from being killed.

I'm also working on a Kill Bill parody...Sister Samurai and the Crazy Quadratics. I'm contemplating a Battlestar Galactica fic too.

Mahalo and thanks for the opportunity to express my imagination. We wish you good reading and writing in the name of fun.
