DEGU: De"gu, n. [Native name.] (Zo["o]l.) A small South American (Esp. the mountain foothills of Chile and Argentina) rodent (Octodon Cumingii), of the family Octodontid[ae].
Degus make excellent pets, however, they need ample space to run around in, are diabetic and cannot consume overly sugary foods, and their orange front teeth signify health. They are highly social creatures and when confronted with a new object, the usual response is for the curious degu to nibble the object to see if it is edible.
