Canadian, art historian, wish I were Victorian... (I'm a poet, too!) I've been a fan of fanfiction for so long, that my own plot bunnies have been multiplying. This is a home for them. Wouldn't want the poor little bunnies to freeze outside! I regularly haunt the Harry Potter, Sherlock Holmes, and Jane Austen categories. In my own fiction, this is all sprinkled liberally with various angsty nineteenth-century literature influences.
OK, admit it – You’ve always wanted to meet Sherlock Holmes. And now, with my Mary-Sue Challenge, you can! I thought it would be interesting to see my favourite Holmes fanfiction writers write themselves into a time-travel fic. So here are the rules: You get transported by the method of your choice into a year of your choice, and by opportunity or chance meet Holmes. What happens next? And remember – you are yourself! No alterations to age, appearance, knowledge, or skills allowed. You may change your name, of course, but try to keep it related to you real one; for example, if your name is Latin, substitute with another Latin one. I see this being challenging on a number of levels: First, you must construct a plausible scenario for time travel. Second, you must resist the urge to go OOC for yourself. Third, you need to be reasonably accurate historically for the period and for Holmes. So – you’re face to face with the one and only Sherlock Holmes… What does he do? More importantly, what do you do?
