My ranting section

I don't know why I am doing this (or the fact that this could end up sounding kind of bitchy, lol) but I just had to get it out of my system. Part of me is doing this because she's bored another because she's sick of not having something to read and would've loved if someone had been kind enough to help her through those old days when she thought 'Love hurts' was a good name for a fic (not that crappy, but come'n!)

Some tips and typical errors of the young or amateurish (or both)

(Please don't hate me D:)

(PS: I know I'm generalizing as not all young and/or amateur have problems, I'm just generalizing a lot. So please take no offense, and if the bag doesn't fit you just brush it aside. By this I mean: IGNORE IT. Again, this all comes from personal experience, and by this it means that yeah, I have done most if not all of those mistakes before. Peace.)

1. Writing 'I'm not good with summaries, please read it' (or the like, same goes for those who write 'it's good read it!") in the summary. This is like screaming I'm crap at writing but still read it, seriously. If you're not good at writing summaries how can people be sure that you're good at writing? So, even when you think it is a crappy summary, it would be (yes, it is still an option u.u) recommendable to write a summary, sometimes an excerpt from the fic could be a good idea. There are two types of summaries: those which tell you nothing about the fic (or little) but are interesting and those that give you the general idea of what it is. Choose what you think is best.

2. SPELL & GRAMMAR CHECK EVERYTHING (It also includes the summary, personally, I'm sick of reading tenten and neji, they're Tenten and Neji and they're is not the same as their.)

3. Write in 1st person point of view (POV). Now, if you really are an amateur then this could prove to be a problem. When not used correctly writing in 1st POV can prove to be awkward and even tacky (and way too plain). Again, I'm not saying you should not write 1st POV only that it is better to start from the regular 3rd POV until you're confident you can pull off a believable (and in-character) 1st POV.

4. NO 'Original Characters', at least not for a leading/main character. This is fanfiction, people want to read about previously known characters and not about this perfect girl/boy you made up. Now, you can use OCs as they can be very useful when developing an story as tertiary or even secondary characters, but other than that it's not recommendable. (The main thing about OCs is that most are either Mary Sues/Gary Stus and that they're wrongly and horribly introduced, developed and explained.)

5.If you are using an OC(s) make sure to develop it correctly, and to introduce it when it is appropriate. Said this, you most trace every single detail about the character: flaws (yes it has to have flaws, lots of it), virtues, characteristics and history. The golden rule about OCs is this: IN FANFICTION YOU MUST ONLY INTRODUCE OCS WHEN THEY HAVE A PURPOSE. By purpose, I mean function, a reason why it exists and why it is introduced. Sometimes, OCs can be well developed as they 'transform' into characters of their own, this proves no problem only that it might not be exactly what the reader is looking for or necessarily fanfiction. (So, I do recommend to write your own original story if you have a fervent desire to introduce a lot of Original Characters). Again, this is for people that are relatively starting (less than a year in fan fiction, perhaps?) so if you got your story and the OCs are working perfectly well then pay no mind. There are ways to make things work with OCs only that very few people are able to do it with efficiency.

6. NO MARY SUES OR GARY STUES (sp?) (If you don't know what that is I suggest you to look up for it and a test that can tell you whether your character is either of them).

7. Try not to give unoriginal/tacky/obvious/cheesy titles. Examples: Love Hurts, Boys vs. Girls, The Love of my Life, Sasuke and Sakura lived happily ever after 4ever and ever111!, I fell for my best friend!, From Hate to love...

Now, I'm not saying those are total crap (for one those were examples I thought in my head, if your fic is named like either of that, I'm sorry, I wasn't intending to offend) just that there are whole lot of titles with the same name and that it proves to be repetitive, and tiring to the point that it becomes ANNOYING. Sometimes, one word can suffice, a short phrase or word play involving the story is nice too, or just something random that doesn't necessarily ties directly to the plot. Try to be the most original since it is one of the steps to get people to read your fic. (However, if you're writing a comedy/parody/humor goofy tittles can be permitted, depending on the circumstances).

8. Writing in script form. One of the most common sins. Basing your whole fic in dialog can be tiring to the eye and to the mind, besides unimaginative. Even when your descriptions happen to be short and even repetitive at first, you will get better (eventually). Try transforming the idea that you have in your head into words, not only the scenarios but the actions and the emotions, so the reader can have a clear a idea of what is going on. In the other hand, extensive descriptions even when they're not entirely bad can turn to be discouraging and way too heavy. Sometimes it is best to leave some stuff for people to imagine and play up in their minds. It makes the whole idea of reading a much more dynamic activity and fun for those who enjoy it.

9. Don't repeat a word more than 3 times in a paragraph or expression (of course I'm talking about mostly about adjectives, adverbs and verbs, sometimes nouns don't have another appealing way to be addressed). Don't abuse the same vocabulary, try to use new and different words so the reading doesn't turn repetitive. Ex: The beautiful girl was dancing so beautifully I couldn't take my beautiful orbs from her beautiful hair and eyes. Yes, it is an exaggeration but it must be used in order to understand the point. Also, be very careful about the way you describe, since there are some things that can end up sounding way too cheesy/tacky/weird. Example: Orbs=eyes (can be awkward).

10. Read a lot, not only fan fiction but real authors, there are a lot of genres to read from and it is of the only way one can get better. It increases your vocabulary and teaches about what's should be done, what should not and the way to do it. Practice makes perfect. Style is of course a completely different idea by itself, but that will be developed conforming one progresses and matures. Only be careful about what you choose to read as there's lots of garbage reading that are plain and commercial. There are plenty of authors out there that get published with a story that one could compare and find something better in fanfiction.net.

:) TBC?

Gaah, my brain broke down, LOL, but at least it is done, right? I hope I helped someone out there, and if not at least it is out of my system. I hope I didn't sound too bitchy and/or critical, I know I'm not perfect either, so you can feel free to criticize me whenever needed (only if it's constructive, of course). That's all for now.

My stories

This space is dedicated to my stories, for anyone that cares that is. -wink-

Veracity For all Deeds: I used to love this, now I'm sort of meh...I don't delete because there might be a possibility of my updating it but seriously, I dunno... Shit... (Hiatus)

Obsession: Truth to be told, I've had this fic in my computer for some months -blushes-. And now I just felt like uploading it, I know I'll regret this some day. Anyways, it's not like there's this WHOLE LOT OF GREAT fanfiction in Fruits Basket. Which is a shame really, although there are some which are REALLY worth it. This is not as good but will do.

Taboo: Really short NejiTen one-shot, and my first Naruto work. I'll just say I'm surprisingly satisfied. Different from what I normally write, but it's alright. Now I shall get my ass to write more Naruto stories. ò.ó : Nejiten FTW!:

Herring Noodles: I thought it would be a lot smarter for me to publish the one-shots I write occasionally in one story instead of different entities. Will be updated regularly (at least for me). I just happen to have lots of works on my head, all I need is to sit and type it all down. Mainly Nejiten and some other pairings. Sort of preparation for the multi-chaptered fic I'm working on.

Also, I will soon release a fic in spanish (OMG!), 'cuz I felt like it. So if you know any Spanish stay tuned. XD (Dunno when this happening tho, lost most of my work...blames it on the lost USB device).

PS: I'd love to have a beta reader, if anyone is interested just PM. If you're good with grammar and spelling (I'm talking about Spanish here, for my English fics it's okay too) that would be awesome.

Thanks!

NEWS:

I lost my USB with all my work. Damn, I feel like crying.

Recommendation: GO WATCH CLANNAD+ CLANNAD AFTERSTORY! Best anime ever, seriously!

Shipping:

I ship whatever I choose to ship. Period. (If you have this irresistible need to know my shipping preferences, you can always PM.) 8D

Currently loving on: Nejiten (& NaruHina lately...blame Kishimoto and the confession)

R.I.P: Harry/Hermione

Forever yours: Takari

Rare Jewel: Tsuna/Haru (KHR)

Cutegasm: Tomoya/Nagisa (Clannad)

Phrase of the month:

"Love is as unproblematic as a vehicle. The only problem are the drivers, the passengers and the road"

~Franz Kafka
