One could even call it bordering along the lines of obsession. But I'm more picky then some people might think, you see when it comes to a SasuNaru AU story, in short if I'm not impressed, intrigued, or amused in some way. I probably won't continue reading it. Why is this? Because I've read hundred and hundreds of SasuNaru AU's, some short, some long, some incomplete, each offered something special that the one before it did not offer. However eventually I grow annoyed with the same old setting, same old scenario, same old plot or lack there of. And still in spite of all this, I hunt for SasuNaru AU's like woah! Got any suggestions? Hit me up! 1 The Dangers of A Highschool Play (Saave) SasuNaru Canon or Close to Canon settingS: Love it even more than AU's. Love it even more when the author/s picks up right where the manga currently is at, or somewhere with in the Shippuden series. Naturally I'll make exceptions to this rule, some stories are fine when they have a nice balance of Canon and AU. But I'm really very picky, and I think even as I sit here and type this I become even more picky of SasuNaru Canon fics. I don't just want to read a simple SasuNaru fic taking place in the Shippuden verse, no I want to read a fic that sucks me in, a fic that I can not tear my eyes away from. This kind of fic is difficult to come by. SOME OF SLY's PAST CANON SETTING SASUNARU FANFICS OF CHOICE Sasuke the Homicidal Maniac ~ Emo Fox Comments: It’s different, it’s clever, it’s refreshing, it has not been done before. SASUNARU The reasons: Because I do prefer Seme!Sasuke and Uke!Naruto. Because even though this pairing is so popular I can't get enough of it. Because every time I watch the series or read the manga I am reminded of the fact that Kishimoto-sensei is clearly a semi-closeted YAOI lover. Because SasuNaru is the closest to a CANON a non-BL manga can get. Because every time I come across another artist/author who appreciate this pairing just as much as I do I know I'm not crazy or delusional in anyway. Because I like my ukes with light colored hair and light colored eyes. Naruto has both. Because Naruto seems so innocent and naive at times that he needs a guiding hand. Because when he isn't obsessing over his clan, Sasuke is a natural born leader. Granted he's not the most patient, but... well I love him anyway and deep down in his avenger mind, Sasuke loves his blond dobe more than ever. Uchiha Sasuke: Uber Hot Avenger Extraordinaire SHUT UP! SASUKE IS HOT…if your can’t see it..you are blind! (10/12/09) I grow really sick and tiered of all the Sasuke bashing. So he's not perfect. So he hasn't always/still isn't making the best decisions. So he hurt our favorite blond time and time again. Is that really truly reason enough to hate him? Sasuke has kinda always been a bastard, but maybe you people need to be reminded of the time of when the younger Uchiha wasn't a bastard, there were several times where he showed that he could be caring and friendly (at least to the blond dobe any way) If he were really that heartless he would have never shown any kind of warmth. And if that's not good enough for you, take a look at the current Sasuke, no matter how annoying his current teammates are, he looks out for them. Madara is wrong...Sasuke isn't just all about the HATRED AND REVENGE. There's more to him than that. Hence why his destined soulmate, Naruto won't EVER GIVE UP ON HIM! And neither will I. I AM A Sasuke Supporter from Beginning to End. Bet Your Ass I am! MORE ON THE RAVEN IN A BIT, BACK TO OUR BLONDY Itachi and Naruto ItaNaru I have much love for the pairing of ItachixNaruto. The two are more alike then most people realize. The fact that Itachi is now dead only strengthens how exciting and real this pairing can be. I'm even more picky with my ItaNaru favorites than I am with SasuNaru. Why? Because bottom line, OOC, or more specifically OOC Itachi pisses me off! I like it when the older Uchiha brother is as close to his canon personality as possible. I'm not asking for perfection but come on people Uchiha Itachi is not the kind of guy to just wake up one day and decide hey I'm in love with...insert name here. Nor is Naruto the kind of person to just turn his back on everything he loves/believes in, mainly Sasuke, and just jump into Itachi's arms. While it can be amusing and entertaining, at the end of the day it feels cheap and insulting. This is not directed at every ItaNaru author, just a good 80 percent of them. I am overjoyed when I come across authors who actually take the time to get Itachi and Naruto together. Favorite ItaNaru fic to date. Winter Release is best ItaNaru ever! (StarsOfYaoi) Deidara and Naruto NejiNaru Often written as unrequited and it's a damn shame, really it is because this pairing can be quite beautiful. A perfect example of this pairing can be found in Silver-Eyed-Hyuuga's stories, especially Eyes of Defiance. A fan-fucking-tastic AU. Gaara and Naruto Gaara! Gaara! Gaara! Yes we should all chant the red heads name like he's some rock star. Yes we should all bring out the tissue boxes when he is on verge of death. And we should definitely raise our GaaNaru flags high when the time calls for it. Although I admit I don't read a lot of this pairing, it still very appealing. KibaNaru I've always considered Kiba to be like the brunette version of Naruto. But at the same time I consider him very different from my favorite blond idiot. I often find fics where the two are best friends, and although I do like it. I like it A LOT. At the same time, no even more so, I WANT MORE! I've read more implied KibaNaru fics than I can count, sometimes I really don't even think the author sees what they are doing, but I can see it, I read between the lines...and other such things. So enough with the teasing. MAKE KIBANARU happen. I can practically taste the KIBANARU goodness on my tongue. And I’ve come up with quite a few ideas for this pairing myself. WIDE GRIN. Shikamaru and Naruto How can you not love the lazy genius? Seriously something is wrong if you can't appreciate Shikamaru's character for what it is. And if you can't see the potential of ShikaNaru then you're obviously not looking hard enough. Because it is there DAMN IT! It is there for you to shape and mold and play with. So go ahead and do it! Sighs, you know what's funny (not really funny at all, actually its frustrating as all hell) any way what I'm getting at is this. Why is it that some of best Shikamaru authors never finish what they start? Why is it that some of the best Shikamaru authors only keep him as a side character or a brief mention? What the hell? You have written Shikamaru down to the T and yet you do nothing with him, argg so damn frustrating. I’m anxiously wait for the day where the Perfect ShikaNaru fic will come along. Go and Ahead and try to tell me ShikaNaru doesn't have canon elements to it, just try it! KakaNaru Sensei and Student. One of my favorite scenarios, right up there with rivals and the like. Again this another pairing that is not getting what it deserves. Pisses me off! Come on KakashixNaruto is a favorite among many, myself included, so you have no excuse to write junk. Beside Kakashi didn’t get the father so he should get the next best thing, the son…LOL Then again, with things like AU’s…well let’s just ship all three of them together. =) Pein and Naruto I have this HABIT if you will...I like men with higher ambition. Pein is a man of higher ambition. Any way PeinNaru is complex and some people might even consider it crack. Well guess what I'm not one of those people and I like complex relationships. Check out Sacrifices (Agni) and you will see the appeal, I guarantee it! PEINNARU could be LOVE? =) SaiNaru Sai. The One With Out Human Emotions. The Sasuke Replacement. The thing with Sai is I think he's the kinda character that you either love or hate. Or sometimes hate and sometimes love. Or the character that you wanna hate but can't help but love. He grows on you, suddenly that annoying fake smile becomes almost endearing in a pathetic but cute sort of way. I recently found out that one of Sai's personality traits is submissive. While I'm not entirely surprised I'll still don't buy it entirely. And even if I did, for some reason I just don't like idea of him being on bottom. Hn, well whatever. Any way SaiNaru is something that can beautiful just as much as it can be annoying. All and all it is a nice dose of entertainment. Orochimaru, Kabuto, Kimimaro paired with Naruto Ah the big baddies. Yeah Yeah we know all this is and yet...who cares? In the right setting, the right scenario, the right circumstances, almost any pairing can become enjoyable. Orochimaru is hot in totally unconventional way. Kabuto, well Kabuto is Kabuto and that pretty much is all that I need to know. Kimimaro, a sad empty soul, tragic how it all ended for him really, perhaps if things had been different and Naruto crossed paths with him earlier, well...any way I've seen it, it's been done, not very often, but a few times, enough to get the wheels in my head spinning. GRINS Genma is...he's hot. He's less than a side character, Hell he's less than "we'll never learn her last name Tenten" and yet so many (myself included) love him. So naturally Naruto would love him too. LOL Raido is...I'm not sure exactly, I can't pinpoint what it is but he's something different...something...he's something. RaiNaru, ah well the appeal came to me when a certain author didn't even plan on making it that make way, and it wasn't and still it got the wheels spinning and yeah I wanna see this pairing. I'm really iffy when it comes to Iruka and Naruto being a pair. It just doesn't sit all that well with me. I don't hate otherwise I wouldn't have even bother listing it but I...shrugs, it's...it could be interesting, possibly. Age differences aside, this pairing would make a lot of sense. I really like it when authors capture the dynamics of these two. Rare but when found I consider it really special. INCEST? OH HELL YEAH. Sometimes I even imagine killing off Kushina just so father and son can get down to some blond lovin' GRINS LIKE A TWISTED PERV. Suigetsu. Was I the only who was disappointed with Suigetsu and Kisame's fight being interrupted/incompleted, whatever...? It still kinda pisses me off, I wanted to see what the outcome would be. While Kisame is well...Kisame ( grins) Suigetsu is no push over. Just look at the way he acts around Sasuke. Sure Sasuke is technically leader, by Sui isn't exactly licking Sasuke's ass, although he might (or the other way around, lol) whichever. Point is Suigetsu is the kinda of character that immediately captures your attention, he's the kind of character you want to see more of. He's the kind of character you wanna see Naruto befriend (and possibly, definitely something more) SuiNaru. I've come across a little of this pairing, just a taste mind you, but it was a nice taste a very nice taste and I hope to get more than this eventually. UkeIchigo pairs AiIchi, GrimmIchi, ByaIchi, UraIchi, GinIchi, "Shiro"Ichi, RenIchi, UlqIchi, KiraIchi, KenIchi, IshiIchi, SzayIchi, ChadIchi, StarkIchi, ShuIchi, HitsuIchi, etc Not much interaction between these two but the few times they did cross paths, there was most definitely sparks of a sort. Higher Ambition. Aizen is a man of higher ambition. He is a genius. He is power. He is categorized as a nothing more than a villain but I do not view him as such. First time interaction with our hero. He was intrigued. This was a sign of potential shipping or so the waves in my little fangirl brain told me at the time. The again, who wouldn’t be fascinated by such a unique berry? Ichigo, categorized as the hero. Ah but cliché hero, he is not. Quite the opposite. For you see our fine berry has a certain power that most heroes do not possess, and that is bending the line between good and evil. Wise and Naïve at the same time. Allies and Enemies are drawn to him. And he, to them. Yes yes that’s all fine and good but why AiIchi when there are way more believable Uke!Ichi pairings out there? Well for one thing, I like a challenge. Sometimes easy going, naturally canon-esque pairings don’t do much for SLY. YAWN. Another reason would be simply because Aizen is Aizen, the role of the good captain, or the role of the mega-crazed overlord of Hueco Mundo. I like em’ both. Still not convinced. Then let me paint a pretty delicious picture for you. The throne, you know the one. You can picture it right? All grand and Aizen-esque. The only thing (person) that would make said throne better would be if Ichigo were bent over it. (mmm hmm) Still not your cuppa? Well suit yourself. Moving on to my next UKE!Ichi pairing of choice. THE ESPADA AND HIS BERRY Now technically my love for this pairing should be even stronger then my love for AiIchi. Technically GrimmIchi makes way more sense and actually has a foundation of sorts for shipping, It could go some where, some might even say it did. I would not disagree. Let’s look at the facts. After their first battle, Grimmjow and Ichigo were both looking forward to the next one. (Grimmjow’s win.) When their blades clashed next, the battle was even more intense then the first. The desire and obsession to KILL was more of mating game if you will. (Ichigo’s win.) Following this battle came the unspoken but still very much there TRUCE. The two reached a common ground. The two came to an understanding. And in the end. There is a great deal of respect and unspoken love between these two. From Killing to Saving, yeah what more is there to say? GrimmIchi. It's the kind of pairing that reminds us of why we like rough!love. It's the kind of pairing that makes one stand back and say...man I love YAOI! Hate. Lust. Love. Requited. Unrequited. Threesomes. Moresomes. Love Triangles. And More. Words that come to mind when I think of GrimmIchi! ByakuyaxIchigo. Truthfully ByaIchi was the very first pairing to catch my attention. The only reason it did not stay at the top of my list is quite simply due to the Renji factor. I have nothing against the tattooed redhead, but things become a little complicated when he's in the mix. Not that I'm against the idea of ByaRen/RenBya or RenIchi or ByaIchiRen, I find it very appealing in a lot of ways, especially when written correctly. But at the same time it feels almost too forced or almost crack like. This is understandable since threesomes are rather difficult to write, so I'll cut you guys a little slack but still..I like the idea of Byakuya and Ichigo keeping all of their attention focused on each other. There's a special bond between both of them even if its one that Byakuya will never acknowledge, it is there. Smirks. UraharaxIchigo. Oh come on how could I not love this pairing? The hat. The clogs. The eyes. The hair. Urahara. It is rather difficult to pinpoint what makes this man so grand. What makes him one of the best choices for my favorite berry boy? Favorite UraIchi moments. After Byakuya’s brutal attack, Urahara came and rescued Ichigo, Aww it was so sweet! The first time he took Ichigo to the underground training battlegrounds. After the soul-society arc, when every one else had left and it was just the two of them on that flying (whatever it was) been so long since I saw that episode. Any way that was incredibly vague I know but shrugs, UraIchi is the natural student/mentor type of pairing. Again, How could I not love it? Well that and I seem to have a fetish for older males being paired up with my berry. IshidaxIchigo. IshiIchi. I love because these two are so much alike. Claiming they don't care about the other when in actuality they do. Actions speak louder then words, and these two are a perfect example of that. Ah my stubborn Quincy what's not love, being paired up with substitute shinigami/vizard, Ichigo is your destiny. Face it, you know you want to, lol. Seriously though everyone who's anyone knows that Rukia and Inoue really can't compete with Ishida's greatness. For one thing, he'd make a much better housewife then either of them, LMAO. I have a couple ideas for this pairing and yes every time Ishida is SEME. It's just my preference. Shiro and Ichigo (Also know as Hichigo, Dark Ichigo, Ichigo's inner hollow, etc) What's funny about Ichigo's inner hollow is he's basically just another part of Ichigo, his conscience if you will, that's how I like to think of him, well that and dead sexy (LOLS) But yeah I always say who knows you better than you? This pairing is often scene as twincest especially in AU's/crack-fics. Very amusing indeed, but also something more. "Shiro" is SPECIAL. He loves his KING and everyone knows it. This pairing is ...YEAH Chad((Sado)) and Ichigo I actually have a really soft spot for this pairing. There is such a deep connection between these two, it's almost heartbreaking. Even if the rest of the world went insane and turned their backs on Ichigo, Chad never would. He will remain loyal to Ichigo. That will not change. He's more than Ichigo's friend, more than Ichigo's non-blood related brother...actually these titles don't even come close to what Chad means to Ichigo and vice versa. One thing is crystal clear, no one will ever or could ever take Chad's place in Ichigo's life. RenjixIchigo The second pairing that my super hetero-loving brother can't deny (right after SasuNaruNaruSasu) My brother reluctantly agrees that there is an attraction between Ichigo and Renji. Hell everyone knows it is there, because unlike characters like Byakuya and Grimmjow, where you have to read between the lines, Renji and Ichigo is totally 100 percent in your face. While Renji has mad-love for his beloved Kuchiki-taichou, Byakuya is basically unattainable and stubborn, so Renji belongs with Ichigo. LOL Actually even though I do love this pairing, I'm quite picky with Renji!authors. Renji is special in a way, because at least in my eyes, he's both ideal as seme and uke at the same time. Alas, that's why it's not always easy to pair him with my beloved Berry Boy. KenpachixIchigo. KenIchi. Oh please, if anyone has the right to pound Ichigo's fine ass, its this man right here. Personally I find Kenpachi and Ichigo's relationship to be FUCKING GRAND! The relief in Ichigo's eyes when Kenpachi saved him in the nick of time. Cue happy fangirl squeals. The smile on Ichigo's face (along with a mix of awe and appreciation) when Kenpachi started kicking Nnoitra's ultra fruity espada ass. Even before that, when the two first crossed paths and blades. KENICHI is LOVE. Don't take my word for it, ask Yachiru GRINS HitsugayaxIchigo. I warmed up to the idea of this pairing after the second BLEACH movie, but before than I was like huh? WTF? Are these guys/gals on something, HitsuIchi/IchiHitsu makes zero to no sense, but then like I said I saw the movie and was like okay I see the attraction that people have to this pairing. And so it is a pairing worth mentioning, if only because it's outside the box and Hitsugaya himself is...well there's no one quite like him. Shrimp captain and Berry Boy, an interesting combo if nothing else. Still, I prefer if it remains one-sided or just loosely implied. Hard to explain, but I really don't care for Hitsugaya being paired with anyone, except for Karin, but again that's also because Hello she is very much like her brother, Ichigo. The rest and Ichigo Well eye candy is one reason. Clashing blades is another. Denial is another. I could go on forever. SemeIchi pairs None, I like my berry boy on bottom =) Good BLEACH fanfic authors are hard to come by. Either that, Or I am incredibly picky. IT IS CANON DAMN IT! HirumaSena The Devil behind it all. I love Hiruma, and anyone who doesn't love Hiruma...well they are not worth my time. No seriously though, Hiruma is the one who found Sena, Hiruma is the one who helped mold Sena, Hiruma is the one who made Sena realize that he is much more than a gopher boy. The idea of Hiruma and Sena is wonderful to me. I love it to bits. But even with this said, I do not read a lot of HiruSena because quite frankly I hate the way most authors write this pairing. AkabaSena It's in his voice. It's in his gaze. It's in his music. In a lot of ways, Akaba is probably not the healthiest of choices for Sena. But that only makes it more appealing. And on a side note it's amusing when Kotaro objects to it. FA. Star Hawk is responsible for my approval and new found love for this pairing. Actually FASH is a genius and an absolute blessing to the ES21 fanfiction world! KakeiSena It's canon, no doubt about that. You can argue on whether or not its one sided canon love on Kakei's part or not. It certainly does seem like it, as Sena's eyes are often else where...but then again well, smirks. JuumonjiSena Ah my favorite former "bully" This pairing is uber cute and when it's written as such it makes me squeal and dance like a happy fangirl should.
