Oh who am I kidding? Let's type stuff.

I'm a nitpicky lurker who is easily amused, easily offended and difficult to keep interested. Translation : I can enjoy a wide range of stories but I will always analyze what I read or watch and have very little tolerance for double standards, sick jokes, the misrepresentation of immoral things and arrogant authors who discard valid advice on base of lame excuses. Advice is meant to help one improve and whether an author wants to hear it or not, this site does encourage constructive criticism. Difficult to satisfy in that what I ultimately will keep reading will require a certain degree of depth, artistry, beauty, complexity (or really good humor). I will not turn off my intelligence to enjoy something, so "It's just fiction" is a futile excuse. Besides, fiction will influence real life.

Most of my favorite things are anime, first by increased exposure through fansubs and the Internet being my only source of entertainment and second due to anime often combining the flexibility of animation with mature themes (which the Western hemisphere cannot often unite with animation) being expressed on a more visual manner. I would not call myself an anime fan however, for most anime does not hold my interest for very long either. When it comes to casual fanhood, franchises I am particularly at home in are Alien versus Predator and Rokumon, due to their complex expanded universe, biomechanic monsters and strong females combined with some deeper themes. They are not up to par with what I consider highest quality in story telling, but they are certainly above average and I love playing in their settings. I am less inclined to write for really good stories, as they tend to leave me satisfied, or maybe because I don't want to devile them, or perhaps I just have a very limited range of what I like to write about. Likely the latter : the aforementioned two franchises are gory, yet I'm not even interested in watching overtly violent things.

This brings me to my stories. I started with writing original stories, but after learning that you lose publishing rights if you place these online, I have decided to only write fanfiction for the time being. Trying not to write too much stories at a time, but also, not too little.

This started in 2004 I believe, around the same time I entered the Alien Versus Predator fandom. I never had an interest in either of the sides, till I became aware of the surface Beauty and Beast element of Anderson's AvP movie, it made me curious. Lo and behold, I found an interesting culture concept for the Predators, but it was the Aliens who really caught my attention with their brutal beauty. I can't quite pinpoint what it was the got me started, but it hasn't left yet.

Morphology - Predator - Eh, I'll admit it, this started in an attempt to brutally deconstruct all the Mary Sue x Pred fics out there. Realism rules!
Ambiance - Alien/Predator - How Karga'te met Kirindi, just a short little story.
Silence - Alien/Predator - The main story, it's about a happy family of mutants who are accidentally conquering the galaxy.
Duende - Alien/Predator/Species/SeveralMore - I did it for the crazy.

I also attempted several Shinzo fanfictions, the anime which had been my greatest obsession since 2001. Since then, my standards have developed and to be honest, I now quite hate the anime for its pathetic story telling, plot holes, sexism, shallowness and bad morality, squicky sexual subtext, ugly monster designs, nonsensical magic system and Sueism. Ironically, the more I hated it the easier it became to envision a story for it and now I've got plot bunnies running rampant for it, thriving on this : how could it have been done better?

Siege of Atrocity - What would happen if Ryuma pulled off his stunt in episode 14? ( Ryuma x Yakumo, eventually. No Stockholm Syndrome. )
Ephemeral Passage - How Binka met Yakumo, one of them. Also, a retelling of the second season with a healthy dose of logic applied.
Eternal Odyssey - Still the idea of the very first story I once write, but viciously overhauled.
Terra Firma - A retelling of the first season, with logic applied.

Another crappy anime obsession is Mon Colle Knights, this one however I've come to love despite its flaws. While my other Fox Kids obsessions faded away, I found this one remaining and I officially entered the fandom in 2006 after getting familiar enough to see through the awful dub. This was also my introduction to the darkly beautiful and disturbed Rokumon franchise, something I never expected to find at its roots. Somehow, it took long before I started writing, but here too I have a lot of plot bunnies running around : I want to do something with these concepts!

Inner Sanctum - An expansion on the history of Zaha, Shiru and Reda, and giving Lark a little life too.
Soul's Window - A short interlude that sets up the story of Heaven's Earth. Short is relative.
Heaven's Earth - The question I've been wanting to answer : what is it going to take to unite two so different realms as Makai and Tenkai? ( Zaha x Shiru )
Consensual Worlds - And this shall be about the fate of both universes, once their goal is achieved.

Last, my most recent obsessions is the first time something of quality and "I want to do this right" kicks in hard. I just started with doodling fanart, and while I generally only draw art for stories that I write, the reverse worked here : a story started as I made fanart. This anime with its metafictional fairytale elements, wonderfully complex symbolism and use of art, not to mentions it characters, is perhaps such a dense combination of several things I love that it transcended the rule. Now I must write.

These aside, other things I love on a more casual level are the following : The Neverending Story, The Chronicles of Twelve Kingdoms, Haibane Renmei, Kino's Journey, Mushishi, Earth Maiden Arjuna, Now and Then Here and There, Rozen Maiden, Paranoia Agent, Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni, Serial Experiments Lain, Disney's Tarzan, Disney's Hunchback of the Notre Dame, Blue Submarine 06, Parasyte, Monster, Snow Queen, The Last Unicorn, Kemono No Souja Erin, Spice and Wolf, Angel's Egg, Uzumaki, Pluto, Denno Coil, Escaflowne, Millennium Actress, Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind, Unico, Wolf's Rain, Hundred Stories, Air. With a sniff of King Kong and Jurassic Park if I need a good 3D monster flick.
