Author has written 4 stories for Angel, Harry Potter, Bones, and ER. Hello, I'm NiennaTru. I am a part-time theology student who enjoys reading fanfiction in her spare time. I've written three stories here at fanfiction.net, and I keep a long list of favorites, so have fun exploring! My own fanfiction: Cinis in Cinerem (Ashes to Ashes)--Angel I wrote this story after the series finale of Angel aired. I was looking for a story that did not have Buffy and the Scooby Gang saving the AI team. While I've read a number of those stories and enjoy them, I wanted to explore a darker alternative. This story was the result. The epilogue was written at a much later date, because I began to feel badly that I'd left the Buffy characters in such a dark place, and decided that I wanted to write a happier ending for them. Therefore, I view the epilogue as a read-and-include-in-the-story-ending or an alternate ending to disregard. Your choice. ;) Silence in the Aftermath--Harry Potter I was at work one day when I suddenly saw a picture in my mind of a dying Harry being held and rocked by someone. Though the picture was very vivid in my mind, strangely, I never knew the identity of that second character. I've had several different ideas of who it was since I've written the story, but I decided to never include these ideas in the narrative itself. I believe that the author can sometimes say too much, so I've decided to leave it to the reader to decide who it is holding Harry as he dies. Let Me Enlighten You--Bones As my author's note at the end of the story indicates, I wrote this story because Sweets' actions in the season three finale of Bones were deplorable. I wanted to rectify that situation a bit. I Know--ER I wrote this story after watching the "sneak peeks" of the episode "Old Times" at the NBC website--specifically, the clips of Carter and Benton. Carter was always my favorite character, but it was his relationship with Benton that really got me emotionally invested in the show. I can't think of a more layered, complex, and dynamic relationship developed on television than the one that was created between these two doctors. "Old Times" brought long time fans like myself back to that relationship--and then moved it forward again. The following stories are ones which I have read more than once and highly recommend. Harry Potter: HP and the Power of Emotion, HP and the Curse of the Damned Both by Melindaleo. The author follows JKR's "book formula", and features H/G, R/Hr 'ships. The romance gets a bit cloying at times, in my opininon, but never to the detriment of the overall story. The Drunk!Harry scene in PoE is an added bonus. Highly recommended. Are You Now, or Have You Ever Been? A post-GOF vignette. The moments following the final battle between Voldemort and Harry. Told from Snape's POV, which I don't generally like, but this is very well written. Dark, and absolutely beautiful. The closing lines are haunting. I Know I'm Not Sleeping Written by TiniTinuviel. The story benefits from a wonderful sense of tension, great atmosphere, and interesting characterization. Work in progress. Highly recommended. Lord of the Rings: The Acceptable Sacrifice, The Choice of Healing, For Eyes to See as Can, Filled With Light as With Water All fics by Larner who is in my opinion, one of the best LotR writers out there. She captures Tolkien's Middle Earth and its inhabitants like few are able, and I am in awe of the thought and detail she puts into her work. All of her work comes highly recommended. Journey to the Last Homely House, When I Come Home, Interlude at Imladris Three stories written by Elwen, and all excellent. The first being a believably written Frodo and Elrond friendship established on the journey back to the Shire; the second an absolutely wrenching AU story; and the last a lovely little story featuring the Fellowship on an outing together in Rivendell. The Care and Feeding of Hobbits A classic, in my opinion, written by Baylor. Boromir's interactions with the Hobbits are endearing, and the whole story is infused with sweetness and humor. The chapter on hobbit family trees is my personal favorite. Angel: Fatherly Concerns Not only does Dlgood write a wickedly great exchange between Connor and Angelus, but the author also captures the menace and gleeful spite of Angelus extremely well. This story is one I very much would like to have seen in Season Four. The closing lines, spoken by Angelus, are carefully aimed weapons. I-55 "Betrayal comes in many forms." This story, by Yahtzee, is dark, bleak, and has an ending that stays with you long after your're done reading. Highly recommended. As the Page Turns One of the few stories to explore the complex relationship between Angel and Giles. The story takes place in Season 1 following Doyle's death, but before the arrival of Wesley. Apologies, Wednesday's Child, and Judgement Day Written by Kizmet. These stories aren't exceptional pieces of fanfiction, but they take a hard look at some of the more questionable (read: appalling) behaviors exibited by the Fang Gang over the years. Everytime I watch Season Two of Angel, I like to come back and read Apologies, because Kizmet brings up some very good points in that story regarding the whole Darla debacle. Stages of Grief A B/A classic which explores Angel's reaction to Buffy's death in seasons 2/5. Ducks' writing is a tad overwrought for my tastes, but I found the progression of Angel's grief in this story very well done. The ending is a cheat in my opinion, but otherwise a great story. Reconstruction, Stopping the Rain, and On the Wings of Prophets I love just about everything AriaAdagio has written in the Angel universe. Her characterizations are wonderful, and her stories imaginative. Reconstruction is one of my all-time favorite Angel fanfictions. She's moved some of her Forever Knight fiction to fanfiction.net as well, for which I am very glad. I credit Nick Knight with beginning my broody vampire obsession. ;) Last Rites, Splinter, and Blood and Water All written by Rheanna, an exceptional author. Last Rites is a haunting and beautiful future fic. The story is very original and has wonderful atmosphere. Splinter is a bit of an in-between scenes story. Not only is the story very inventive and original, but it takes the time to explore the fractured relationships of the Fang Gang in Season Two. Blood and Water reads like a particularly well-written Season On episode of Angel. The added bonus being the inspired way in which Rheanna writes the bond between Angel, Wesley, and Cordelia. On Ancient Wings An AU/future fic written by Cynamin. This is the Angel/Buffy relationship at its romantic best. The world Cynamin has created here is similar to that in the Fray comic, so it's a little bleak, but worth a read (or several). There's a sequel, I believe, though I'm not sure if it was ever finished. Poppies are the Colour of Blood This story is an exploration of the reason why Angel sailed to America at the turn of the last century. It benefits from great historical details and interesting original characters. | |||||||||
