Phrases: I’m only writing a few down here

A transfer student greeting a class: Hajimemashite. (name) desu. Doozo yoroshiku (How do you do? My name is…, Nice to meet you)

Watashi wa nihongo o hanashimasu- I speak Japanese Otearai wa doko desu ka? -Where is the bathroom?

You can use this phrase (…wa doko desu ka?) if you are asking where something is. Just place the object or subject before wa ex; Watashi wa doko desu ka? (Where am I?)

Shuumatsu wa nani o shimasu ka?- what are you doing this weekend?

If you want to use these questions for a person other than yourself replace watashi with the person’s name and add san ex; Mearii-san wa doko desu ka?- Where is Mary?

Soo desu ne?- is that right? (agreement)

Oishii desu yo- it’s delicious I tell you

Ima, nanji desu ka?- what time is it now?

Kanpai- Cheers!

Moshi Moshi- hello (Used when answering the phone)

Wakarimasen- I don't understand ex; Watashi no senmon wa mada wakarimasen (I don't know what my major is)

Onamae wa nan desu ka?- what is your name ex; Mearii desu (my name is mary)

Shigoto wa nan desu ka?- what is your occupation ex; kaishin desu (I am an office worker)

nannensee desu ka?- what year in school are you? ex; ninensee desu (I'm 2nd year)

senmon wa nan desu ka?- what is your major ex; senmon wa nihongo desu. (my major's Japanese)

nansai desu ka?- how old are you? ex; juusai desu (10 years old)

denwa bangoo wa nan desu ka?- what is your phone number ex; ni-ichi-ni-no-roku-hachi-nana-go (212-6875)

doko kara kimashita ka?- where do you come from? (nationality) ex; nihonjin desu (Japanese person)

ee desu ne- sounds good

deto ni ikimasen ka? (do you want to go on a date)

Ashita wa doo desu ka?- how about tomorrow?

genki desu ka?- how are you?
