Hi! My name is Shawny.

I'm Chinese-American, born and raised in San Francisco. I attended and then graduated UC Davis with a BS in Electrical and Computer Engineering. I love many things, but most especially I love my husband and my children.

I like a lot of anime. I've been watching it since I was a kid - and I don't intend to stop anytime soon! Now-a-days I don't have much time for anime, but I watch it when I can. I enjoy reading and writing fan fiction. I write on and off (mostly off; I went years without writing anything) whenever the mood hits me and if time permits. I dabble mostly, so my writing is probably a bit rusty. Real Life keeps me pretty busy! Occasionally, I cosplay.

Other things I like: eating, pasta, BBQ, sushi, Vienamese noodle soups, dim sum, cookies, iced tea, anime, reading, Dance Dance Revolution (DDR), anime conventions - Hmm... Notice how many of my likes involve food? sweatdrop I'm also interested in personal finance and accounting. I enjoy investing and watching my portfolio grow.

Dislikes: hot and humid weather, wet and frosty weather, radio commercials, so called "real" TV, plagiarism

Pet Peeves: People who mix up and misuse homophones. People who write in so called "Computer English" (sez, ur, frenz, etc). I'm good at English, so people who don't use the English language properly really, really annoy me!

Thirty Kisses Challenge

I'm taking the Thirty Kisses Challenge on Live Journal. The challenge is to claim a couple that you like and write 30 fanfics (or draw fanart) with that couple. (They can be short 100 word drabbles or long multi-chaptered novels. The length doesn't matter.) The challenge is that each story must have one of the 30 themes AND a kiss in it. The kiss can be anywhere in the fanfic, and doesn't necessarily have to be between the couple you've chosen, although that is preferred.

Several people have started the 30 kisses challenge with Naruto and Hinata as the couple. But so far, no one has actually completed all 30 kisses. My goal is to be the first person to complete all 30 NaruHina kisses. Go me!

One of the main reasons I took up this challenge was because of Sleepwalking101 on deviantART. She writes very good NaruHina fanfics and is currently taking the 100 themes challenge on DA. 100! She’s writing 100 NaruHina oneshots. I’d been toying with the idea of taking the 30 kisses challenge for a very long time. When I saw her writing 100 NaruHina stories, it motivated me to get off my lazy butt and actually do it! Hey, if she can write 100, then I can write 30! Right? Yu Yu Hakusho: Masquerade

This is not posted on this site. At least, not yet. I started this Kurama and Botan romance way back in 1999 or 2000, but only completed 2 chapters. I was nervous about writing it, as it would have been my very fist multi-chaptered fic. And I wasn't sure where I was going with it. Then I got distracted by Real Life - and it never got finished. I plan to focus on Masquerade after I finish the 30 Kisses Challenge.

FYI

I usually aim for about 5,000 words per chapter, but the final length of my chapters varies. 5,000 is only a guideline for me. Regardless of the length, the chapter ends when I have written all the scenes that I've planned for that chapter!

If I get stuck on any of my current fanfics, you can expect to see some new drabbles or oneshots. I've found that the best way to get over a bit of writer's block is to go write something different! The first time I was stuck on OSS, I wrote a bunch of YYH drabbles. The second time I was stuck on OSS, I wrote A Push in the Right Direction. Writing something different is refreshing and more constructive than trying to bash my way through a block. And after a little while, my inspiration comes back again.

One Small Step - chap 9B: 2,394 words (very rough draft)
Ten Defining Moments - part 10: 1184 words
A Delicate Condition - chap 6: about 1500 words (very rough draft)
67 Percent - chap 2: 912 words (very rough draft)

I haven't kept this profile current. Sorry about that. I actually did some writing in October, but didn't bother to update my status. Anyways, a few people PM'ed me and asked about my writing plans (and/or lack of updates). So just as an FYI... My current plan is to finish in this order: (1) Ten Defining Moments, (2) the next chapter of A Delicate Condition, (3) chapter 9B of One Small Step.

Ten Defining Moments is nearly complete. It should be finished in a day or two! I want to finish chapter 6 of A Delicate Condition this month, but with the holidays coming up... I don't know if I'll have the time. I'll try.

Oh! One more thing! I have a new commissioned fanart by JakeNova of DeviantArt! It's a NaruHina picture based on One Small Step. See link above.

I know I'm supposed to be working on One Small Step and/or A Delicate Condition, but I'm not. I've been distracted... and it's all Perpetual159's fault. She didn't come out and say so directly, but she practically dared me to take the Dattebayo Challenge. I had this idea for a NaruHina fanfic, but I wasn't going to write it because it was kind of really Stupid - with a capital 'S'. It contains the three C's that I hate reading in fanfics: Cheesy, Corny, and Cliché

The Untitled Dattebayo Challenge Fic has been outlined and drafted (787 words).

OMG. The three C's. I can't believe I'm writing it. You guys will be so disappointed. (T_T)

I get a lot of questions about One Small Step... mostly along the lines of... "When will you update it?!"

I don't know. I don't have a lot of time to write. When I do find time to write, sometimes I'm inspired to work on my other fanfics, instead. There are a lot of plot ideas that I would love to play with... including a few that are not NaruHina centric! gasp I know. Shocking, isn't it? For example, I've thought about writing a Kakashi-raises-Naruto story with the main focus on the family bonds between Kakashi and Naruto. I've also thought about trying my hand at writing a NejiTen story, too. (I'm a NejiTen fan, btw.)

Here's what I do know:

1. One Small Step is not abandoned. There will be more chapters in the future.

2. I'm busy this month (April) and next month (May) with family stuff and preparing for Fanime - which means writing time is limited.

3. A few months ago, I offered to write drabbles for a few people on Live Journal and deviantArt. I really want to finish those, first. (Requests include: one NaruHina, one NejiTen, and one SasuSaku drabble/ficlet)

After that... I'll get back to One Small Step and A Delicate Condition.

Lastly, I'm surprised by how much every likes The Hokage Trap! To all the people who have reviewed and/or added it to their alerts/faves: Thank you very much for the support!
